<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>KN31</b></div><div>Horrible deal. We might as well say bye to one KK, Suzuki, Romanov,Poehling, or Primeau when their ELC runs out.</div></div>
Way to over value prospects. Only KK and Suzuki are poised to get decent bucks at the end of their ELC. Poehling is a bubble player and Primeau has many years behind Carey before we see if he’s an NHL goaltender.
If the Habs end up in cap hell, it won’t be because they signed Jeff Petry for fair value.

Defenceman age well in this league. He’ll still be worth it at 34.
Y’all wanted to give Markov $3M at 40.

You know, when the Poll asks "Was this a good signing?" is it from the perspective of the team or the player?
Absolute highway robbery for the team. Utter trash for the player. Fire your agent, Jake.

Just checking the cap situation. Don’t think it’s likely. I also think the AAV here is an overpay.

Offer lol
They really should match, but it sounds like 10 is a sticking point right now. Probably because it’s early. Leafs should easily pay him up to the bracket of offer sheet compensation that pays Two 1sts a 2nd and a 3rd (10,568,000ish).

Comparables don't work that way. Stamkos signed in 2016. Kucherov was an RFA who took a team discount.
Same logic: Kevin Hayes just signed for $7M+. Is Duchene not a Hayes level player?

Armia is worth $1 650 000, maybe even less
Lehkonen is worth maybe $1 500 000
Montreal will never sign Benn if they can't give him $700 000... they don't want him taking up a million dollars of space
Duchene is worth less than $7 000 000, I would give him $4 500 000</div></div>
Read the description... Obviously everyone is overpaid because the point of this exercise was to find out if you can overpay everyone and afford it.
They can.

Of course, done deal.
Let's call it "UFA space" then. Could pay anyone up to 10.5M and survive comfortably. Doing this made me realize the Habs could probably even fit up to 12.5 if they play hardball with Lehkonen and Armia.

Karlsson's health problems are exaggerated.
Last 3 years:
Karlsson: 201 regular season games and 38 playoff games. Missed 45 games.
Weber: 160 regular season games and 6 playoff games. Missed 84 games.
If it really becomes an issue, we can abuse LTIR like Toronto does.
Either way, you simply do not pass up signing literally elite talent. Like top 5 defenceman in the league talent. You pay whatever it takes.

Do you give Poehling a few games this season if he leaves ST Cloud?
Neither.
He's far from late-season-NHL ready and the race is too tight for us to slot him in over anyone else on the roster.
The Rocket are a dumpster fire that would hurt his development.
Wait until next year. He can do the Rookie Camp, Training Camp and Pre-Season games and we can evaluate what we really have in him. Excelling in the NCAA doesn't tell us all that much. Need to see how he stacks up against real competition over more than a meagre 36 game season.

I see. Not too familiar with his play style. I figured Gost fits well because he's a fast puck mover with offensive upside that would pair well with Shea. He'll put up at least 40 points a season for you.
Lindholm is bigger which is nice. Either way, I'm not opposed to giving up Poehling as part of a package for a #1 LD.

I'd agree, but I doubt Calgary is selling. Gostisbehere is on the outs in Philly; benched at one point and threatened to be scratched. His value is at his lowest (as the other poster pointed out).

I think we overrate Poehling. Has never played more than a 36 game season, and projects to be a 3C at best. A great world juniors doesn't change what he is. Griffin Reinhart also had a great worlds once...
The roster player could be Lekhonen, Juulsen or Mete, sure. I figured Mete would become expendible given that Gost is the same type of player (except he can shoot).

As far as your lineup goes, I'd reunite Pacioretty and Radulov. Their play styles complement each other so well. Just go back and look at highlights of the two together for that one season. They bring out the best in each other.

Agreed. Left side defence is where the need is... I just don't know if any are realistically available for a trade. I went with Faulk because he was trade bait at the deadline.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Codyymd16</b></div><div>hard pass from CAR, Necas is a top prospect and CAR are not trading him, maybe if you take him out then theyd think about it, but value isnt there at all</div></div>
Also yeah, Necas is a top prospect... and I don't see MB pulling the trigger on a Patches trade for anything less than that in return (e.g. he wanted Gabe Vilardi from the Kings). That's why I threw the Habs 2nd and Benn the other way. Probably would have to give up more. Go ahead and take Hudon or Sherbak then! Tough to part with them, but solid upside.

Montreal Realistic?
I think you can do this without trading away the 3rd overall. That return is not worth it. Habs have only picked in the top 3 like twice in the last three decades. You don't pass that up. Zadina is worth more than the two players the other first rounders fetch.
I would also hold on to Byron, value to cap dollars ratio is incredible and you want more of that on your team rather than less.
Others have said Patches will fetch more, but I wouldn't be surprised if you were right; I expect him to go for much less than we're all expecting.

You're right about the Schlemko pick. I've fixed that deal, I think.
As for LAK: they have a vice grip on their prospects and Clague is their second best behind Vilardi, I don't honestly think they'd bite on the deal I've presented, even with Hudon, but I figure if it's ever going to happen, I'd have to overpay.
