If that’s what you think you can get for him. More power to ya. But personally, I’d never give up a Roster player for a pending UFA with as modest production as Puljujarvi.

I can def see that on Barbashev. I’m not sure we see competition on Puljujarvi. Sure, someone COULD outbid us, not sure if anyone will.

That’s not what I’ve heard, nor do I see anyone paying a ton for a guy scoring at his pace. But what would you say he’s worth?

BACK SCRATCHING 2
This would be the kind of move the Isles should make once Horvat is extended. If Sorokin gets injured, we’d need the back up to really step up, and Varlamov could do that. And if we miss the playoffs this year with Horvat still unsigned, we are in for a rough offseason.
But as far as the deal itself goes, I’m a fan. We just need to have our house in order first.

I haven’t heard anywhere that the Avs are looking to part with Girard. Not sure he’s the wisest move for us considering how cramped our cap situation will be next year.

Yeah, I get that. It’s usually not my style to go for rentals, but I think the situation kind of forces our hand here.

Next year
Here are my thoughts:
-Palmieri isn’t useless, but he is overpaid. I could see him going to a contender for cheap, but we’d have to retain a full 50%.
-If Mayfield wants that high of a cap hit, let him walk. He’s definitely an above average 3rd pairing guy, but paying that much for anyone on the 3rd pairing is generally a bad move. Bolduc is going to grow into that kind if mold anyways.
-Kessel is definitely an interesting signing. Not sure he fits our mold, but I can see his value as a 3rd line veteran who generates depth scoring.
-I’d actually try to extend Wahlstrom to his last RFA year. I think it’s kind of known that he won’t be a star winger, he’s firmly a middle six guy. Might as well try sign him on a team friendly deal rather than a two year “prove it” deal. 4x2.5?

I get what you’re saying, but “can be done in the offseason” can’t be in our vocabulary until Horvat signs an extension.
To be clear, the reason I’m looking for middle or bottom 6 help is because we need to make the playoffs this year. Missing the postseason makes extending Horvat, who we paid a king’s ransom for, much more difficult.

I’d do Toews for a 2nd. Same goes with Puljujarvu, though I’d only take him on as a last resort.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>AC14</b></div><div>Well, yes and no. We need the type that you draft and really explode or you take with a pick or get in a trade that you wouldn’t expect from a Barbashev. We have some pretty decent options and currently have multiple guys under contract for term who are best suited as #4s or below. I don’t expect this to be fixed instantaneously, but ever since we lost Bouwmeester, we’ve lacked a mobile defenseman who is good to above average in all 3 zones that’s left handed. It’s a lot of the belief of why Parayko has struggled so much.
Again, don’t expect it to be fixed here. But taking a shot on a tall mobile LHD to possibly figure it out isn’t the worst thing in the world. Defense is certainly preferred to goaltending or forward in terms of project type prospects or depth type prospects that would be expected in this situation</div></div>
I guess to be more specific, would a 2nd and Salo, Aho or Odelius do the trick? If one of those wouldn’t do it, I’d still be fine with a 2nd and a 3rd.

I wouldn’t be shocked, trades are 10 times harder to swing than ACGMs give credit for, but I would be frustrated with that. It’s hard to look at our current roster and not worry about our bottom 6.

I’d consider a 2nd and a 3rd pretty fair. Do the Blues need LHD prospects? We have a surplus of those in the middling range.

Two questions: what kind of prospect are we talking and why specifically do you not see the Isles as a fit? Nit saying you’re right or wrong, just curious on your opinion.

I’m not sure either see very good fits for our system, I've heard neither are the most defensively responsible. Though that may have changed, I don’t know.

How is it ridiculous? The isles have proven that they are nothing more than a .500 team over the past 2 seasons. Last season it was blamed on Covid, what’s this years excuse?
Just so we’re clear , i have said that i won’t be content until the isles rebuild. They are a terrible team with one of the worst rosters in the league. If I tried to persuade you into believing in the Arizona coyotes becoming contenders, would you believe me? No. So why would I value an opinion with rose colored glasses. There is no realistic outline for the isles to make the playoffs anytime soon</div></div>
Comparing this team’s playoff chances to Arizona or Chicago is just ridiculous. I’m done discussing this, you are, in your own words “ignoring reality” to put the Isles on the level of those two teams.

Too late to make that argument. We’ve already sold off half of our farm, there’s no undoing the trade.
Also, “there’s nothing they can add to make them a playoff team”? What??? The Isles are two points behind PIT and three points behind WSH. How is this team too far gone?
Look, I don’t know if you just don’t like the Isles or are in too deep on a ridiculous opinion to back down, but I think it’s clear that you’re going to doompost on the Isles one way or another.

Take it up with Lou. I wanted to spend the next three years reloading, but I’m not GM. The Horvat trade wasn’t my idea, I just think adding is the best thing we can do in this situation.

I made a post about a week ago talking about how we should sell off a few of our older guys, retool for 2-3 years and build around the younger half of our core. But the Horvat trade changes all of that.

If he’s supposed to be scoring at a 25-30 point pace, he’d have scored more than 7 goals in the first half of the season.
Up until the Horvat trade, I would have been fine keeping Wahlstrom and let him develop however he’ll develop, probably into a middle six sniper with a bit better defensive play than you’d expect. But since we traded away our best prospect and our fourth or fifth straight first rounder, it’s in for a penny in for a pound. The Horvat trade forces us to go for it, I never said I liked that fact.

The more I’ve seen of Wahlstrom, the more I think he hasn’t been a good fit for our system, even after Trotz left. If we can resign Tank and Bo, that bus us at least two years of contention before we have to consider rebuilding. Besides, Wahlstrom won’t be back from injury this year anyways.

I’ve heard rumors that those two might be on the move, but my impression was that would depend on if they were in the playoff picture by the TDL. Though if I’m wearing and the Isles can pull this off, no complaints here. I know St. Louis fans will object, especially after seeing what Horvat got.

If Wahlstrom was healthy, I’d be fine with this. Well, I guess I’D still be fine with this, but I doubt the Blues would want an injured Wahlstrom in a year where I’d imagine they want to at least qualify for the playoffs.
Maybe if we retain on Bailey, it’d make more sense?
