Yes, and if he doesn't sign it then he doesn't play hockey next season. Again, the player does not have arbitration rights. It's either an offer sheet or his qualifying offer.

Why would they do that if he doesn't have arb rights? Dermott has zero leverage on a 1-year deal; if he asks for $2.5M, the Leafs will say no.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Kotkaniemi15</b></div><div>Lol. So 2 players we don’t want plus a 2nd? Not a chance.
Also why do you want Danault? People were complaining about people’s ice time when you had Kadri as the 3C. That would be even worse with Danault.</div></div>
Nobody was complaining about anyone's ice time; the Leafs moved Kadri to re-work their salary structure. Danault is a great player (as I'm sure you know), but also he's a pending UFA, which gives Toronto flexibility in the summer of 2021 when Hyman is up for FA and Rielly is eligible for an extension.

Dermott does not have arbitration rights. $906,500 is his qualifying offer at 105% of his previous salary ($863,333).

I think if Montreal would retain salary then Toronto would move the 1st.

This doesn't scratch the surface of his value.
But as a Leaf fan. ACCEPTED.|
It would probably need to be:
15th OA
Johnsson
Nice Prospect</div></div>
It is not a sign-and-trade. 15thOA, Johnsson, and a prospect is a massive overpay for a top-six C rental.

The return is probably light for Carolina, yeah, but treating Dougie like he's locked up long-term doesn't make for a productive conversation. He's due (at least) a $3M raise and Carolina already has $20M committed to four defencemen through 22-23.

Yes and there is a small difference between "Joel Edmundson and Domink Bokk" and "Fred Andersen, Filip Hallander, and the 15th overall pick".

Dougie is a great player but he is on an expiring contract. Justin Faulk in the same situation last year returned Joel Edmundson and Domink Bokk.

Dubas absolutely did right by Leivo though, moving him to Vancouver instead of letting him languish in the press box, so I don't think there's any bad blood there with Babcock gone. If the team has openings on the 3rd line (and they will, if they trade Johnsson and Kapanen), Leivo seems like exactly the kind of low-cost, analytic-friendly addition Toronto could make.

Doubt Robertson is on the 4th line either, that’s a total Babcock move lol, probably goes at 3LW and eiZAR to the right side and Leivo to the 4th line.</div></div>
Yeah, I think Robertson will get looks all over the lineup next season, especially with Keefe's penchant for mixing-and-matching.
Basically you've got four LWers here who can play up and down the lineup depending on the game situation.

Leafs add a legitimate Top 4 RD, some insurance in goal, and replace some of Kapanen's out-going value.
Jets get some much-needed depth on RD for a very low acquisition cost.
Anaheim jumpstarts the retool with a two young roster players, one NHL-ready prospect, a breakout QMJHL scorer, and two draft picks.
Who says no?

<em>Strong</em> disagree that Barrie is better than Gardiner. Yes he's right-handed and a better fit for the lineup, but there's really no measure except points (which, who cares for a defenceman) by which Barrie beats out Gardiner.

While I think it's only a small possibility that Jake is still holding a candle for Toronto, if that *were* the case, the hold up would definitely be the Marner negotiations. They can't sign Gardiner until they know Marner's AAV.
