Ignoring everything but Zegras, Anaheim isn't trading him unless the return fits the rebuild. At best they get 1 solid draft pick out of this and Berggren who is older than him. Zegras for Kasper+ is what the Ducks would be looking for.
That being said, we don't need more small skill forwards. Especially if we re-sign Kane. Raymond, Kane, DeBrincat are plenty. We need our Hossa/Stone/Tkachuk style winger.

I mean sure when you say it like that it looks great and I'm hopeful too but you can't keep winning playing like we did against Edmonton and Calgary. They had terrible goaltending and everything went in for us. It's just not sustainable to get outshot 2 to 1 and collect points.

The wins have been nice but I can't them sustaining it enough to really make a playoff push. I'm not buying yet.

I can't see us paying Dumba what it would take to retain him and then put him on a 3rd pair so not sure why you'd want to do this.

While I hear your take about keeping players for a playoff run, but not trading Bert for assets would be so dumb and poor asset mgmt... this team is not going for the cup, they are going for a wildcard spot. Getting a first, top prospects or multiple pieces while staying competitive using the log jam at forward is what should happen. The Wings can easily trade Bert and ice Vrana or vise versa.

Lafreniere and 19-20 deadline moves
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hellochris06</b></div><div>I like Bean or Haydn Fleury in that trade. Left side depth on the blue-line is starting to be questionable. I'd trade AA for a high-end center prospect as well as he's the oldest of the "core". Ideally Larkin is a 2C if we end up only getting Byfield or Lundell my feelings aren't going to be terribly hurt.</div></div>
I think the only clear cut future 1C of this draft is probably Byfield. Lundell seems a lot like another Larkin, in the sense that he is a very good defensive minded center, probably the best in the draft, but still has the capabilities obviously to be a great offensive guy. But probably not put up the 1C points of elite playoff teams. If we miss out on Lafreniere or Byfield and fall to 3rd or 4th, I'm picking Tim Stutzle out of the DEL. The kid has hands, speed, great hockey IQ, and is lighting up the DEL. Look him up or look into him more if you haven't really. I have woken up at 730 on Sunday's to watch his Adler Mannheim games and I'm telling you, the kid is legit. He plays wing over in the DEL but has played center before and has the skill set too. I think he is the only other player who can be an elite line driving center out of this draft. I've been saying this for a long time that I'm drafting him at 3, even when the early draft rankings had him at like 10-12. And now he's slowly inching his way closer, the highest I've seen him is 4th now. But I'm telling you, I would absolutely love to draft him at 3.

Next years DET team
Everything looks good except the Mantha contract. Even if he slows down, I doubt he finishes the season with less than 30 goals and 70 points. With those numbers you're looking at 7 million minimum, even if he takes a slight discount. I'd use the Nylander and Connor as comparables.

Seabrook Trade
They'd probably be better off just buying Seabrook out or sending him to the AHL or whatever and just live without his extra cap space until his contract is over than losing Dach at this point.
Talent is more valuable than cap space at the end of the day.

Thread:
Seabrook Trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Eli</b></div><div>Sure, talent wins games, but we're talking about a forward with 10 points vs a defenseman with 6. Dach is 18 while Cholowski is 21, so Dach has a higher ceiling, absolutely, but over the next three years would you rather have Dach and Seabrook, or Cholowski and a 6Mx3year UFA? No idea who that would be, but lets hypothetically call him, "Gustafsson."
Because Seabrook's remaining compensation is mostly signing bonus and not salary, it looks like buying him out means he earns 17.7M to not play hockey the next four years, instead of 20.5M to play them. The team buying him out only saves 300k in cap hit next year, and in 22-23: <a href="https://www.capfriendly.com/buyout-calculator/brent-seabrook/2020-06-15">https://www.capfriendly.com/buyout-calculator/brent-seabrook/2020-06-15</a>
So Seabrook isn't being bought out any time soon. Can Detroit offer him a more exciting role on a more exciting team than he's got in Chicago, where he's won a Cup and the team is just ahead of the Maple Leafs in the standings, today?</div></div>
I would take Dach and Seabrook any day of the week over Cholowski and a UFA at 6M. Go look at what 6M gets you in free agency, like straight up real free agency. Zuccarello, Myers, Stastny, Turris, Radulov, Shattenkirk, Lucic, Ericksson, etc etc etc All players who by the end of their contracts are overpaid themselves.... sure they're probably not so bad for the first couple years but Chicago isn't looking at the cup run the next couple years anyway so whats the rush?
Dach has the potential to be a top flight elite player. Cholowski not so much, good but not elite. Frankly many Wings fans are getting a bit over him to boot so its not like they are offering up their prized possession or anything.
The buyout of Seabrook would not be for cap saving, it would be for getting rid of his roster spot and letting him go on to other pastures without holding him down as a 7th dman for the rest of his contract. A mercy for a former stud of the team. That's if they felt like they needed to get him off the team. They could simply just keep him for a couple more years as a veteran leader on the team. Hope for a compliance buyout or maybe a change in the buyout terms or simply buyout him out at a later time normally. They actually get some decent savings in 21-22 and 23-24. Not perfect but not buyout proof either.
Cap space can be maneuvered, manipulated, moved around to make the salary cap work. Adding a potential top line center? How often does one of them come along, what impact to they give their teams and what are their price tags to acquire? There are so many ways to make your salary cap work in today's NHL that simply keeping the player and not losing the talent is way more advantageous.
Also keeping Seabrook leaves open the option that a miracle happens. Maybe he starts playing better, maybe he decides to retire, maybe he gets LTIR'd, maybe someone is stupid enough to trade a less headache player to them in exchange for him. All potential outcomes that help the Hawks and let them keep their potential stud player in Dach. I joke but technically all those options have happened before so its not that far-fetched.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hellochris06</b></div><div>Would argue that as Svech, Necas, Pesce and Slavin get older they're going to get better. Add Marner who just put up 94 points to a team with a better defense and his production should stay in that range. At that point, I don't see them as a fringe team. I don't see Toronto being willing to trade him unless it's for a serious over-payment. Again, it's all just for fun.</div></div>
team needs a serious upgrade at goaltender to be considered anything more than a fringe team. With Mrazek and McElhinney next year I could very easily see them missing playoffs again

Where do All these Forwards Go
the forward situation is a problem. We need some luck and some big decisions in this group. assuming you add kakko or hughes added to larkin and hopefully zadina you have a base for your top 6. now if mantha and bertuzzi evolve into those kinda players kinda remains to be seen. if mantha is a 20 goal 40 pt guy then maybe moving him as a base for a bigger piece is a good idea. we have buckets of young forwards but as good as larkin is and zadina may become we lack the elite talent at the top of the line up. the blue line is an absolute mess.

Because why not
When Panarin said he wanted to be on a coast I'm pretty sure he wasn't thinking of the Detroit River.
The Datsuyk rumor was started by his agent to fatten his contract with SKA Saint Petersburg and that's it. Datsyuk is one of my favorite players and arguably the most creative player to play in NHL. But lets be realistic Kovalchuk had almost double the points Datsyuk had in their last 2 seasons together in the KHL. Kovalchuk hasn't exactly been tearing it up in his return to the NHL, plus he's 5 years younger.
