(FLA/MTL) - Smilanic, 1st, 4th for Chiarot
Yeah Florida paid a steep prize for him for sure.
But out off the pieces that were out there I think they got the one they needed for win-now mentality.
This trade got basically tampa-series written all over it.
With Chiarot out there its less likely Perry, Maroon and Killorn hack the rebounds in without fear of bodily harm.
Florida needed grit, we are so soon to forget the refs are about to change their calls again come playoffs. Its the time for those "slow and takes too many minor penalties" guys to shine.
If this gives Bobrovski more space to see the pucks, more slack for dropping a few juicy rebounds etc. it just might be worth the, admittedly hefty, prize.
Once again looking Tampa: Hedman, Sergachev, Cernak, Bogosian.... comes playoff their goal front is not a nice place to be by any means.

Maybe I am being patriotic, but I honestly feel Finland has a fighting chance. Even against the ruskies.
They' ve never been overly good at choosing an optimal team, with people actually chosen for the roles they will play in the games (meaning 8min/game checking line with PK minutes

Dunno about the first round. But I too believe they wont get past the second.
During regular season people seem to forget the rules are somewhat relaxed when rhe playoffs start.
Colorado lacks grit, it did last season and situation hasn't improved. Not totally convinced about the goaltending either.
Teams like Vegas, and Stlouis will be a tough challenge to them when it gets physical.
(Always forget which teams are bound to face eact other, at what point so dunno if those two are even possible in first two rounds))

Jalonen on the other hand excels in that.
We got an (almost too) experienced team, who know each other from earlier tournaments.
We got a solid 3 punch off top KHL goalies.
Almost all skaters play top roles in their KHL or swiss league teams.
Even some former NHL experience with Filppula, Vatanen and Uncle-Leo :D
Oh yeh, forgot that others played in NHL aswell few games.
Lehtonen, Pakarinen, Hartikainen, Kemppainen, Lindbohm, Ma. Granlund, Säteri...

Its always a guess who Jalonen chooses for the Finnish team, but I would perhaps change it a little.
Finland
Lehtera-Aaltonen-Ojamaki
Hartikainen-Granlund-Manninen
Pulkkinen-Filppula-Ruohomaa
Pesonen-Kemppainen-Pakarinen
Björninen-Karjalainen
Pokka-Kaski
Vatanen-Kemilainen
Ohtamaa-Hietanen
Lindbohn-Saarijärvi
Metsola
Olkinuora
Säteri
But as said, anyones guess.
And we are going to the finals.

They have yet to been even close, and if history repeats itself-> injured goalies + not enough grit results into early exit.

I think its doable. Brouwers buy-out ends +1.5M, Lucic 1 year remaining goes to Ottawa or where ever. +5M, Zadorov walks and Välimäki steps into playing roster. -> should be enough cap.

Sure that Pionk knee shoulda been called, but Spezzas was a dirty dirty move. You can basically break someones neck with dropping your knee intentionally like that.
Remember from football back in the days that happening to Chelsea FC goaltender Petr Chech. He was like a year out with fractured scull and had to wear protective gear rest of his career. And was concidered lucky.

For a change a good read about how Blashill/ Red Wings analyze scoring chances.
It had a few good points, especially not just watching blindly shot position, and taking onto measure the distance/hastiness goalie had the to move.
I have always been somewhat skeptical towards overuse of different statistics, but this article had some merit in it.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Alfie11</b></div><div>Why do you think this is funny? He’s literally right. The Ducks are a bad team that is overperforming right now because Gibson’s on a hot streak and Terry is physically incapable of missing the net. The same thing happens almost every year with them, but within a week or two they’ll have overplayed Gibson to the point of exhaustion or injury (again), Terry’s shooting percentage will regress, and they’ll be back to being a mediocre, non-playoff team with only a few parts of their long-term roster set in stone, and several key parts of their current roster are UFAs this summer. They should totally trade Lindholm, Manson, and Rakell, Getzlaf if he wants to leave, and while Gibson is more of a 50/50 because his contract is solid and he has term, if they did trade him they’d likely bring back a haul that would be more beneficial to their long-term prospects. If they “stay the course” they’ll likely lose 1-3 of those key UFAs for nothing as they walk, Getzlaf will age out of being an impact player, and they’ll be mired in the middle, being too good with Zegras/McTavish/Drysdale/Gibson to properly tank for a good pick to complete their rebuild, while not being good enough to actually be competitive.</div></div>
Agree totally with this. Even with Gibson being 50/50 (might not be good idea to be too horrible for the youngsters to be able to win once in a while, and the contract is pretty good)
But if Gibson fetches an total haul from a desperate contender... good riddance. There are prospects like Dostal coming up right?

Sure it might help to change them, but fact is: your in a world of pain with your dcore atleast this year and the following two seasons.
Getting OEL was ridiccilous as already your defense couldnt defend. Giving up 3.4/3.5 goals/game really aint a recipe for success.

3.375 vs 2.3 ,that 1M is quite easily managed. Someone is always injured....
I think he might be a decent fit as a rental to Islanders. Veteran grit, better PP than they got now.
