Thinking of exactly same. Is this a salarycap hoax somehow? They rather get fooked next season on bonus cushion penalty if they happen to go over the cap?

New York Islanders signed Matt Martin (4 Years / $1,500,000 AAV)
Not loving the term, like everyone else it seems. But he will be only 35 when it ends.
On the other hand, everyone here thinks its fine and dandy to give any moderately talented youngun 2-3M/year just because they got "20 goal potential". If you've watched any NYI games you could see Martins worth. He is an absolute beast out there. He has 3000 hits in less than 700 games. And they arent no "killing me softly" crap. Out of NHL all time leaders he awerages highest by a margin.
After he and Clutterbuck were through their shift agains their opponents, they most and likely felt it.
And dont give me some crap about hits not mattering thar much. Some players games turn to absolute crap after they've been hit hard once. They become scared, dump the puck fractions too quick, dont make that extra little play they normally would.
Guys like Martin make teams they play in better. There was a story about Samuel Morin trying to transition from defender to forward this offseason. He being a 6ft 6 guy.
Guess whose games he kept watching from video to try to become an imposing force out there? Yep. Matt Martin, because he is the best at what he does.

I do like Jumbo, but dont see him having the legs to play with Marner and Mathews in the long run. Dunno if the idea is for him to pick up defensive role so Mathews, although a center, can consentrate on scoring.

What puzzles me the most, they got 4.2M in cap. Dubinskys 5.85M goes to ltir soon. Nyquist could be in ltir for regular season (5.5M).
Adds up to frikkin 15.5M, one should think you could get something with that.

Dubois blockbuster
Forget Manson and Savard.
Put in Steel or Terry + the picks and I think columbus accepts. As long as Columbus forward-core doesnt signicantly improve, I really dont see them competing for the cup.
Dunno why the effing way they didnt go for Hoffman+ additional firepower.

Monahan
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jacketsman61</b></div><div>See that is actually not true. See Dubois is signed for 2 years under his current deal at a very manageable cap hit. Even at the end of his deal he will still have two more years of RFA status before he becomes an UFA. So really the Jackets aren’t forced to trade him</div></div>
In two years Dubois qualifying offer is going to be 6.65M. (Structured that way) and he has arbitration rights. So he is going to cost almost 2M more than Lindholm. But he is 22 vs Lindholms 26 year old, so marketvalue evens out. Personally I think DBL has higher ceiling, he has had less than great linemates, and played in a more defense orientated system. Still put up decent numbers

I think normally 1st (16-18th pick) would be ok, but considering PLD wants the hell outta columbus it is a bit too much.
Does he want to go another "small market team" and freeze his ass off in Calgary is not 100% sure. Got a feeling he dreams off sunny beaches and 0% income tax...

One trade
Am not totally hating this idea. Just for the change of scenery idea. Really dont know if Flyers needs more physicality in their D-roster, but their fans do like to see high volume hitting guys. Gustafsson can play 2nd PP so Ghost not really needee for that. Am saying Philly wins slightly ( just because the doubt Ghost will ever reach his earlier points production, although they say he is finally healthy)

Well perhaps they buy out Panik or smt.
If I was Vrana I wouldn't close out another 2 year bridge with +4M. Covid-cap is going to affect all longer deals atleast this summer still. He would most likely be better off making the longer deal in a couple of years. (Depending somewhat how ridiccilous is Ovi's next deal)

With what cap are capitals going to pay him 6M next year??? Am leaning towards 2x 4-4.5M Still rfa after deal, and perhaps in two years they can afford to give him smt like 6x7M if production has stayed good.

Probably third pair shutdown defender with bigger role in penalty kill. Not bad signing as such by no means. Brings leadership and makes sure people work as they should out there and at practise.

Taking guesses how much the Rangers front office been cursing life lately?
I like king Henrik, but businesswise NY really got fooked on this one.
He could have finished his career as an ranger, last year of contract would have been now on LTIR.
Instead they buy him out. End up getting caphit of 5.5M this year and 1.5M next year. AND had to look at him wearing a Capitals jersey.
All the best and quick recovery to Henrik!

The only guys they lost was krug and chara. Gryz can easily fill that krug hole and 1 of the LD kids will step up for chara's lost, whether thats lauzon, zboril, or vaak. This is more of a changing of the guards than a rebuild.</div></div>
I agree with Brian there that its a possibility atleast that Bruins might miss the playoffs.
Gryz isnr easily replazing Krug, not even in a good year.
Pastrnak and marchants injuries might last longer than hoped, and when its a compact 56 game season battling an tough East Division with a few improved teams its a possibility.
Basically boston needs top quality goaltending from Rask who last played in March.
Ohh yeah. Its gonna be sweet seeing them play each other 9 times :D Would be dreamy if Zdeno had to disciplin marchant for being a lil tossup.

I personally dont understand all the crap Doughty keeps getting. He got 35 points in a shortened season last season. He has never been a "profilic offensive defenseman". And to be honest: bloody superman couldnt have carried the Kings last year.
I would still take Doughy over Karlsson or Burns each day of the week.
Sure the numbers are hefty, but that 11M was about right in that year for him and his contribution. Who honestly thinks ANY of those 11M contracts are gonna look good on the last couple of years??? (McDavid perhaps excluded)
