Honestly don't mind Seattle keeping Eberle, especially with how bad the returns have been this year at the TD.
*Edit* Can't say I love the full NMC

(OTT/FLA) - Tarasenko for 2024 4th (FLA), 2025 3rd (FLA)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NorthernLeafsFan05</b></div><div>This is laughably bad for the Senators, they couldn't even pry a decent prospect out of Florida. I get that the trade protection on Tarasenkos deal allowed him to dictate where he went, but that doesn't change the fact that this trade is horrible. For crying out loud, Anthony Mantha cost the Knights more than this.
This is highway robbery for the Panthers who add another lethal offensive weapon to their already loaded forward group. At only 2.5m, he is going to be extremely valuable. If they want to buy more, they easily could (granted they don't have the money). This was a masterclass of a trade from Zito and a complete blunder by Staios</div></div>

2023-2024 NHL Discussion Thread #4: Deadline is Approaching
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>HelmutCool</b></div><div>With what capspace woyld florida sign him?
They are trouble in the summer anyhow... Montour, lundell, reinhart.</div></div>
For defensemen, it has already been accepted that we are losing one of Montour, Ekblad (trade), or Forsling. Forsling is most likely coming back barring the inability for a deal to be reached, so either Montour walks or Ekblad gets traded.
As for forwards, unless Tarasenko signs long term, I expect him to just be around for this cup run. I expect Lundell & Reinhart to get new contracts.

Jarmo is out as GM of the Blue Jackets, and while the last offseason or two were filled with questionable decisions, he did an incredible job setting that team up for success. That Seth Jones trade was a real big highlight. I'm sure he'll find another job in the NHL relatively quickly

2023-2024 NHL Discussion Thread #2: Early Overreactions
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CantStopWontStop</b></div><div>Good point, but I do feel one feature that pumps value to being the most competitive league in the world is the ability to take risk. I think that’s why the nfl is king in the us: you can measure risk taken any given play even, let alone roster.
This situation has made everybody in the nhl so risk averse and bound that numerous gms are really on autopilot, each decision is mostly made for them since there aren’t many options, and risky options are highly devalued.
Hard to measure a gms quality when they can’t do anything.</div></div>
While there were teams struggling with the cap, there were also teams with lots of space.
The cap is supposed to be a mechanism for parity. You aren't supposed to be able to keep every player you want and that talent is supposed to end up being more evenly distributed because of it.
Teams being able to pay their way out of bad contracts kind of goes against that, since they can keep all the good talent and unload the bad, but it at least costs them futures to do so which creates a balance over an extended period of time. Giving them "free outs" when things are tough, gives them more of an advantage than the teams who don't need that relief and/or have better managed their spending.
Capped teams typically already have a competitive advantage. Extra measures would only create more of an imbalance. They can get cap relief if they pay for it and that's enough.

Lanbanc should do the same. Its risky but if he goes and does well with his new team he could end up with a similar deal or potentially get more down the road.</div></div>
Labanc has 1 year left, If i was Labanc, I'd ride my contract out and see what comes in FA, no reason to ask for termination. Zadina had 2 years left and Detroit wasn't going to use him, termination for Zadina made sense, it doesn't for Labanc

Buffalo Sabres signed Rasmus Dahlin (8 Years / $11,000,000 AAV)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>DDoverChucky</b></div><div>How do these teams honestly expect to win handing out these ridiculous contracts.</div></div>
They honestly look at Vegas.
Eichel $10mm (12.1%) in 2022-23
Stone $9.5mm (11.5%)
Pietrangelo $8.8mm (10.7%)
And they say, wow, Vegas won with 3 guys making more than 10% of the cap.
Then BUF does some math and looks at their top contracts for 2024-25 (est. $87.5mm cap)
Dahlin $11mm (12.6%)
Skinner $9mm (10.3%)
Tage $7.14mm (8.2%)
And they figure they are in a much better cap situation than Vegas and they also figure the cap will keep going up knowing that that pushes those percentages even lower.
Simple math, really.

2023 NHL Offseason Discussion Thread #4 - The quiet period
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>darthsummer</b></div><div>There has been zero indication that Babcock “demanded” phones or took them without players’ knowledge. He asked, and by all accounts, nobody refused. If they felt his request put them in a position of an awkward choice, well that’s precisely what “uncomfortable” means.
As for equating it to a job interview (now keep in mind, these athletes already have six-to-eight figure a year contracts), I expect a dive into my personal life to verify my character. While interviewing for my law firm and others, they pored over social media accounts, ran extensive background checks, requested personal writings, held my interview over the course of an entire day, and insisted on having dinner and drinks with not just me but also my fiancée. They contacted references, some whom I had listed and others of their own accord. Plus, the scrutiny to get my Bar license was even more intense and extensive. And that all paled in comparison to the measures taken by a certain government agency with which interviewed years later.
So yeah, I do not see the issue with Babcock’s approach. The prominent players came out supporting his actions; this was just someone using tyranny of the minority, playing off old stories of Babcock to depose him in an unprofessional manner by spinning it to the “media.”</div></div>
We don't know exactly how it happened or exactly how it took place, nor do we know exactly what his approach was. Perhaps nothing would have came from it if he had done some things differently. I'm hosting a team dinner and would like everyone to bring a few photos to share just to break the ice and get to know each other before we get down to business. There's no pressure, it's out in the open, and no concern over invasion of privacy because you are choosing what you wish to share.
If his approach was to approach players privately and demand they let him scroll through their phone, the atmosphere is completely different.
Maybe one of the players is LGBT, or dating a celebrity, or has intimate/compromising pictures, things that might be in their camera roll that they don't wish to share.
Maybe some of them did indeed say no and now they fear their career will be impacted for refusing (or worse, he straight up told them it would impact how he manages them).

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NorthernLeafsFan05</b></div><div>Bunting is going to be so good with the Canes man...</div></div>
Canes are looking solid and deep. They have about $2 million (+/-) depending on # of active players on roster which can accrue to the TDL for about $5-6 million of cap space. Patrick Kane or a deadline trade for a sniper. I still think they might be trying to make room for Tarasenko right now but they probably need to move out Martinook to at least offer Vlad $4 million then they don't need to move any assets. Keep Pesce as their own rental for a ridiculous blueline.
Each pair is nearly a $10 million duo. Slavin-Burns; Skjei-Pesce; Orlov-DeAngelo. When they need to shut the door they can roll out Slavin-Orlov/Pesce and when they need to pump shots on net they can go with Burns/DeAngelo/Skjei.
3 deep in nets. 3 dangerous lines. And still a solid pipeline of prospects; especially at blueline where they have some age (Burns/Orlov) and contracts (Pesce/Skjei/DeAngelo) coming due.
Very impressive team building.
