KANE REQUESTS TRADE TO LEAFS
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>evelutions2</b></div><div>With teams like Ottawa emerging, and Detroit and Buffalo potentially taking that next step, I wouldn't put it past the Leafs to miss the playoffs. Tampa will make it more than likely, with Florida also being a likely lock. Boston is falling, Montreal is rebuilding, and the 3 teams already mentioned are on the rise. Ottawa is definitely starting their push next season, and Detroit and Buffalo are close. Not to mention with how tough the Metro still is, I have a hard time seeing the Atlantic taking both wild cards. Carolina, NYR, and Pittsburgh are likely locks in the Metro. Washington is falling, but not completely ruled out yet. NYI are also on the cusp, along with Columbus. NJ is on the rise as well, but I doubt they make that push this year. Is it still likely the Leafs make the playoffs, yes, but the East right now is as tough as it has been, with 12 teams really competing for 8 spots. So yes it is quite possible</div></div>
I think my response got lost, so if so this is a repeat ignore.
But this argument is pretty down on the leafs, and assuming that a 40 pt gap between the leafs and the Sens, Sabres and Red Wings get magicked away while seeming to me to argue that only the Leafs and not the Panthers or Tampa could be overtaken by them. Realistically the chances of them missing the playoffs would be about 1 percent and no more notable then most top teams.

KANE REQUESTS TRADE TO LEAFS
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>evelutions2</b></div><div>Why would Kane even bother waiving for a pretender? Face it, even if Kane did that, it would still be a first round exit, if the Leafs even make the playoffs. Sure that's a great top 6, but what little depth they had is now being replaced with even less depth. Campbell is not signing that, as he will likely get 5+mil. So I ask again, why would Kane even consider waiving to Toronto if he knows he won't even make it out of the first round?</div></div>
Out of all the criticisms to give the agm (the fact that Kane would cost much more) this is a weird one to bring up. How much depth is being lost? Just one bottom pairing D and one Top 9 forward. And are you honestly telling me the Leafs won't make the playoffs lol. As for first round loss, you don't think this roster could make it to the 2nd round at minimum.
The goaltending is only possible if Campbell takes a discount. Possible if unlikely.

Genius Moves
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jded</b></div><div>Because he has star talent (literally been an all-star three times). If you judge a goalie by blindly looking at their save % then sure, he dropped off the last three years, which totally coincidentally aligns to when the ducks team went to crap and stopped playing competent hockey. Watch the ducks play and you’ll see it’s impossible for any goalie to sit back there and manage a .920 save % for a good sample size. It was crazy that Stolarz managed it at the sample he did, but if he played the sample Gibson did it would have been the same or worse. GMs will be smart enough to value him. If they don’t offer enough value, the ducks will happily keep him</div></div>
To be fair he has had a negative GSAA according to href for the last 3 seasons, and same thing with money pucks Goals Saved above expected.
So there definitely a very risky choice to hope for a rebound for a new team.
I don't watch the ducks his bad is their D and defensive structure?

Everyone keeps liking him cause they think he's bounceback candidate, if he flops with Toronto his contract would be impossible to move.

I see you in alot of ducks leafs trades, honest question do you think that the Ducks if they move him are getting more then a late first and prospects? It seems you value him alot while others value him only as a bounceback, due to how he played 3+ years ago. Not that I want him but I'm curious.

As for the later I agree somewhat could be a opportunity for security for them and good value for the leafs, but the need for a starter is more pressing then term for them.</div></div>

They're relatively young (Lank 27, Comrie 26) and at least to start the season, they could be good options. If there is an obvious need after a few months, then a trade can be made.
Also, I think that signing Strome and Puljujärvi to multiple years can prove beneficial for both of them, as I can't see them making much more in the future. This also gives the Leafs security going forward, not having to worry about resigning them along with the core 4.</div></div>

That's a fair point but a 5 mill backup goalie is not optimizing your own roster, yeah Lou can keep him but I'm guessing he wants to spend in other places.
Do you think the isles would be interested in Kerfoot?

I like the explanations and your right about the depth scoring, I think the contracts are inaccurate tho, I would expect Strome to be more likely to get a 1 year deal for cheaper, and pulujarvi likely on a shorter term deal as well. Both would be useful adds.
Disagree that Miller would be the type of guy the leafs would look to if they trade Muzzin they'd probably want someone who could replace a bit of his shutdown or physical capabilities.
The goaltending is really the one that I disagree with. Platoon is too risky, especially after seeing what happened last season. They need to get a starter who can play 50 games. If you bridge Sandin for two years, and give shorter term contracts for pulujarvi and Strome, you could afford a actual #1

PALAT THE MISSING PIECE FOR LEAFS CUP WIN

Matthews is gone in 2 years as a UFA. Tavares has lost a step and shouldn't be playing C. Marner loves his dirty dangles and Matthews loves his sick snipes. Great for the regular season but doesn't win you playoff games. Nylander should be traded but never will be while Dubas is Leafs GM. Pokemon Leafs. Gotta keep em all!</div></div>
Lol that second take is pure hot take garbage. What wins you playoff series is goals simple as, do Stamkos's Snipes suddenly not win playoff series. I agree depth scoring is what has cost the Leafs at times particularly this year, but I don't think it's impossible to win with stars and duds I think Pittsburgh did it similarly. As for Matthews UFA you have as much insight as anyone else here, which means none. Frankly if he wasn't a Leaf I doubt people would say he'd leave.
Obviously until the Leafs win a round these comments will never end.

Why would Ottawa do that, they have the cap space to get equivalent value guys from FA, and keep the pick.
I doubt Philly moves their pick either, but I can at least understand that one if their trying to retool. Also think it's way more likely they'll try to dump worse contracts then JVR

Agree with the others, Chi trade needs to be incentivized for the hawks, Oil trade makes more sense if Keith is gone tho I don't think Muzzin waives either.
