Thread: C for Bs
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LastDaze_</b></div><div>I don’t disagree with any of this and I’d hope the B’s trade Gryz towards a C if anything. I do think if you’re the top team in the NHL you can’t just be content and eventually need to go all in and get stronger in an area of weakness... Can’t worry too much about the future if you’re realistically going for the cup.

What do you think about the first offer?</div></div>

Bruins have already given up loads of future assets - Lohrei isn't one you want to move on. He was killing it in college/varsity and has looked to have big upside for the past couple years now. If, and I reiterate IF, he fills out a bit and gets his timing down, he will be a very solid puck moving D man.

Do the Bruins need a center....100%, but I am not sure they are going to overpay and they likely wont be moving high assets for rentals given the lack of assets and prospects they have. As it pertains to the 1st offer, its starting point for sure. That being said a couple flame fans in the forum think Elias is the second coming of jesus with the return they would like to see.

That being said, if we explore Eichel's trade (which Lindholm is no Eichel) or the Horvat trade - its likely an NHL ready player 1st and perhaps something else. So perhaps if Lindholm is signing with the Bruins, Beecher, JDB and a 1st.

Its tough to say really, as I get the impression if the price is to high the Bruins stand pat and go UFA hunting next year knowing they have Pasta, McAvoy, Marchand, Carlo, Coyle, Zacha, Frederic, Ullmark, Geekie and Lohrei all under contract.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MoxNix</b></div><div>That's a disingenuous comparison Eichel had a broken neck that needed surgery.

There are really only two players that could replace Bergeron. Lindholm and Barkov, that's it. No way Florida will be trading Barkov any time soon so if the Bruins want the most Bergeron like player they can hope to find anytime soon it's Lindholm.

Lindholm had 82 points and +61 two years ago when he had Matthew Tkachuk and soft little johnny as his wingers. That's more points and a better plus/minus than Bergeron ever had. Lindholm really should have won the Selke that year instead of placing 2nd behind you guessed it Bergeron. Now just imagine what Lindholm would be capable of playing with Pastrnak and Marchand.</div></div>

You are right Eichel had an injury that was something that could be resolved - he had a herniated disc in his neck, not a broken neck. If the Sabres let Eichel go with the preferred operation he would still be in Buffalo. Either which way, it wasn't a question mark if he would play again but when. That being said, by all accounts Eichel is the better player so Celtics offer wasn't really that odd given the Eichel trade.

You are right that 1 of the 4-7 seasons Johnny hockey and Matty T played with Lindholm he has his best season at 82 pts. Not sure that was purely a product of him but more perhaps his line mates also set career highs as well. As for the Selke, not sure what to tell you on that one outside of Bergeron out scored Lindy by 161, 1st place votes to 21. Perhaps there was more to the +/- that everyone else was watching?

I am not saying Lindholm is a bad player I mean he is often ranked about 70th to 75th in the top 100 players in the NHL (I even think this year he was 71st). There is just no way the Bruins move arguably their 2 best prospects and a vezna goalie for him. Why move 3 assets when you can go shopping for UFA at the end of the season?

Thread: It works
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>RazWild</b></div><div>Well, for starters.

1) Minnesota's lone franchise level player in its entire history isn't available.

That package there on Boston's end doesn't gets you Kaprizov alone, let alone make Minnesota ADD. It's not a question of value. Kaprizov is arguably the best left wing in the world, did you actually think he'd be available?

2) The drop off between Kaprizov to DeBrusk puts Minnesota straight into the gutter. And perhaps you haven't heard, but they ain't rebuilding Chief. So moving their single greatest core player, ISN'T a option.

Teams add AROUND their best player, when trying to compete. They don't move them if they're goal is to win.

3) Minnesota’s goalie tandem doesn't blow.

IT'S DEFENSE DOES.

Gustavsson literally had the 2nd best save percentage in the entire league last season behind only Ullmark. He's had a rough start to the year, sure. But the defense in front of him, both at the blue line and fowards positions, have been mind-numbingly atrocious. So while he does need to turn it around, putting the blame on him or Fleury is ill advised.

Brodin hasn't looked himself.

Faber has been a stud, despite being a ROOKIE, but is on a island alone. He's been Minnesota's best defenseman by far this year, but there’s only so much one player can do by themselves.

Middleton is a 3rd pairing caliber defenseman who typically plays in Minnesota's top-4 because of his size and physicality, but his warts are being laid bare because they're usually covered up by Spurgeon. Who's been out all year.

So yeah, Minnesota's best defenseman and team Captain has been out all year. So there's that.

Goligoski is cooked, but he's on LTIR anyway.

Merrill has been horrible, I don't think he could get traded for future considerations at this point either.

Addison is a defensive black hole.

Mermis has been solid. But he's a career Ahl'er.

Hunt might stick, but he's played less than 10 NHL games to date. He's not Faber, so expecting a rookie to do much is another matter.

4) TL;DR version....

This only makes Minnesota much, much worse. Yes, they shore up their deficiencies. But lose the one thing that truly makes them competitive in the process.

It's a hard NO from Minnesota.

Edit: And by the way, Minnesota has at least THREE top 50 defenseman. Brodin, who's typically and arguably the best shutdown defenseman in the league. Spurgeon, who literally was a top 10 Norris finalist last season. And Faber, who has looked like a top 25 defenseman since turning pro last year.</div></div>

Its moot anyway. The Bruins would not pay 3 active roster players, top 4 and D man and on many teams top pairing, top 6 LW and the vezna goalie for Kirill the thrill. Kirill is a solid hockey player no doubt about it and you may be right that some could argue the best LW (due to the fact most top forwards are C and RW), not to mention if you take multi positional players out like Draisaitl and Matt Tkachuk it would put him close to the top for sure.
