As a Caps fan I'd take that. Love Garland. And getting a 2nd? Hell yes

The retention is tough but a garland Kuznetsov swap would be good for the caps I think. The added 2nd might make it worth it.

Rumors and Speculation
Would be surprised if this was the case. Kuz's playstyle isn't really a fit in Columbus, and Boqvist isn't a fit in DC with Carlson, Jensen, Van Riemsdyk on the right side.

Laine for Kadri
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hockey_Soul</b></div><div>I agree that panic selling is a bad idea, but I don't think his play has anything to do with concussion symptoms. He's always been a sloppy puck handler and shown limited effort. He has good bursts, like the effort he put into the goal against MTL, but otherwise he loses a board battle and pouts for a second before slowly getting going again. He just doesn't have any killer instinct aside from when it's time to shoot the puck, and he even seems to be missing his confidence in that regard right now too.</div></div>
It doesn't help that the Jackets seem loath to put him in a position to succeed, too.

cannot understate how much i love marchenko's game and personality. that said, those guys aren't great comps.
hughes was 20 when he signed his deal. sanderson had just turned 21. tage was coming off of a 38-30–68 season when he signed his extension.
marchenko is 23 (much closer to being a finished product) and has a career 28-10–38 line across 80 games, which is buoyed by his 16% sh% last year. he's both less proven and more of a finished product than those three guys.
the better comp is oliver bjorkstrand's first extension with the jackets, signed in the summer of 2018 (3 years, $2.5m aav) as a 23-year-old coming off of a 40-point season. that's in line with marchenko's age and production so far. bjorkstrand's second cbj extension ($5.4m aav over 6 years) is probably the high-end comp, but he signed that after scoring at a far higher rate than marchenko has, and that one bought out 4 UFA years (i think).

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hockey_Soul</b></div><div>Plenty of people seem to think they do need a young RHD to replace Savard.
If they don't want him that's fine. Florida and other teams will be looking for affordable, young and talented RHD in the summer.</div></div>
Replace Savard? He is still under contract for a year and a half. Even if they traded him away right now:
Barron, Kovacevic and Lindstrom are NHL level.
Ghule, Harris and Xhekaj can also play the right side.
Reinbacher will sign before the end of the season.
And Mailloux is waiting in the AHL to be recalled.
With 9 realistic options on RHD, why would a rebuilding team pay a high pick? Zero interest from MTL.

Why would the Flames let Lindholm walk to UFA. He's going to be traded at the deadline, or signed long term(less likely)

They can only get the 8th year if it is a “sign and trade” (like Severson deal). Once we get past the deadline, only his existing team can offer the 8-year max term.
If they traded for his rights…would still be limited to 7-years.

The current trend is to lock them up early, a la Ottawa with Sanderson, NJ with Hughes, and Buffalo with Thompson. In my opinion, Marchenko is worth the gamble.

All in all I like this a lot.
I would maybe acquire one veteran winger to support the younger guys and provide some competition but overall this is decent.
I wouldn’t mind giving laine one more year to see if he can make it stick in a second line role. However if we do move on from him, I won’t be too upset.

This is extremely false.
The original reporting was he was homesick. Didn’t matter about location.
The new reporting is that he is super happy and has done “a complete 180” and is fully committed to the blue jackets. That is a quote from his agent.

Well you need to actually pay attention to what he's saying then because that's not even remotely true.

If Columbus actually drafts Silayev then they're in line to be a contender in 3-4 years.
A dcore of Jirichek - Mateychuk and Silayev would be so good. Add Fantilli as your 1C and this team would have a bright future

Jarmo should be spending his final days signing marchenko to an 8 year extension like you have here. If that’s his last thing as a gm here I’ll be pretty happy.
Also adding lindholm even for the money and term would be a good idea. He’s a 1b on a contender and won’t block Fantilli as he can slot behind him fairly easily.

I would add that it's probably time for CBJ to get a new GM since it seems that JK is running out of ideas, but if he's going to continue to be the GM but he's not being allowed to/doesn't want to be patient, then trading Laine + Sillinger for Lindholm (with some kind of guarantee that he will stick around) + ... would probably make more sense than going for two vets one who is rental and the other a year away from FA. If they do this SEA trade it should be Gourde + Eberle + a 1st.

Yanni Gourde isn't the kind of center you trade Laine for. Laine has massively underperformed and Gourde immediately makes us better, but he is not the kind of center that puts us over the top. The risk of Laine returning to form for a #2/#3C is not worth it, especially when we are already out of the playoffs this year. Wait it out and see what happens with Laine.

That SEA trade reeks of desperation and future regret. For a team that has a high-end C prospect playing in the NHL in his rookie season, and a couple of others with NHL experience, they shouldn't be desperate at all. If JK gets that desperate due to his job being on the line, he should be fired before he could make a trade like that.
