Just need to bury 3 overpaid bums like Lazi Loui and Sutter in the minor. They have a 26 man roster right now.

I'd call this a good signing regardless of how he actually plays over the next two years. Gusev should be a top 6 forward upon arrival if he's as advertised and even if he flames out, NJ has the cap space and the contract will be off the books quickly.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>vic997</b></div><div>Great AAV tbh. Term isn't too bad as he's fairly decent and still 25. If he gets 40-45 points in even just one of those 7 years, this is really good value. Cap should be way higher in 7 years.
For comparison, Tanev got 3.5 x 6 w/ a modified NTC and Sissons was even more productive.</div></div>
Shut up with that non-sense. This kid is getting good and will only get better. That term with that aav is unbelievable.

If only John Gibson had a decent defense in front of him not turning over the puck, would he be considered a top goalie by more people.

Do you give Poehling a few games this season if he leaves ST Cloud?
Neither.
He's far from late-season-NHL ready and the race is too tight for us to slot him in over anyone else on the roster.
The Rocket are a dumpster fire that would hurt his development.
Wait until next year. He can do the Rookie Camp, Training Camp and Pre-Season games and we can evaluate what we really have in him. Excelling in the NCAA doesn't tell us all that much. Need to see how he stacks up against real competition over more than a meagre 36 game season.

I’d say AHL for a few reasons:
1. Once his season with St. Cloud State is over, the deadline for signing a contract and being elidgible for playing in the playoffs. I can’t see Poehling signing before his season is over, and I definitely can’t see the Habs giving him a spot just for a month, only for him not to be able to play in the playoffs.
2. Montreal is a relatively healthy team, compared to other teams that have signed their college players later in the year. They most likely won’t have the roster space.
3. If Poehling ended up playing more than 9 games in the NHL, he would become elidgible for the Seattle expansion draft, which just makes the Canadiens job all that harder when it comes to that.
4. I don’t think he’s necessarily ready for the NHL. There’s a big difference between playing in the NCAA and pro hockey, which I think Poehling will either need time in the AHL or pre-season to get adjusted. Especially because of the role he would be playing, which would go from top-line to most likely 4th line center.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>DoctorBreakfast</b></div><div>I'm guessing the three year deals are due to the Seattle expansion draft. The third year allows them to be exposed.</div></div>
You nailed it. Contrary to what some others are saying, this actually supports the idea that the Caps are going with Samsonov long-term as they’re ensuring they have a different goalie that satisfies the exposure requirements.

(PIT/FLA) - Brassard, Sheahan, and multiple picks for Bjugstad, McCann
I feel it is hard to fully judge the merits of this trade in isolation given the near certainty that Brassard and Sheehan are going to be flipped in the coming weeks (or days, if not sooner). If they’re able to get a few more assets then the trade doesn’t look quite as bad. But yeah, at first blush it’s a win for Pittsburgh.

St. Louis Blues signed Robert Bortuzzo (3 Years / $1,375,000 AAV)
The 1.375m per year contract kinda allows him to be demoted at sometime during the contract without any hardly any cap implications. So the contract is OK for a 5/6/7 even a 8th Dman.
