I'm delusional? You're the one that is suggesting adding 58.5M to their payroll making that around 140M for one season like it's fake money. You seem to forget how much money teams lost because of the Coronavirus. Right now, Maple Leaf Sport &amp; Entertainment is not making any money.

So let's say this goes through and the owners are dumb enough to go through with it. Leafs lose in the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd round and no cup, what then? 58.5M wasted.

Why would Dubas even present this to the owners? If Leafs lose and waste 58.5M, Dubas is as good as fired.</div></div>

Arguing with you is like talking to a wall. They receive a discount on Ekblad for taking on Bobrovsky's contract allowing them to acquire him for much cheaper than not taking on the contract, get it?

They get Ekblad for 5 years, and with him they are more of a contender without, likely going deeper in the playoffs and generating more money.

Who said I'm throwing it around? This is a multi-billion dollar company that will bounce back much better than pretty much any other team in the NHL.

They also have a history of taking on contracts for minimal returns so why would they not consider this? They traded for Clarkson last year and paid over $5 million to upgrade Garret Sparks return from probably a 6th/7th to a 4th round pick. MLSE is all in on winning and if spending money gets them closer, they won't even blink.

Also, if the NHL wasn't a hard cap league the Leafs yearly salary would probably be upwards of $200M every year anyways, they have money to burn.
