(OTT/FLA) - Tarasenko for 2024 4th (FLA), 2025 3rd (FLA)
This is laughably bad for the Senators, they couldn't even pry a decent prospect out of Florida. I get that the trade protection on Tarasenkos deal allowed him to dictate where he went, but that doesn't change the fact that this trade is horrible. For crying out loud, Anthony Mantha cost the Knights more than this.
This is highway robbery for the Panthers who add another lethal offensive weapon to their already loaded forward group. At only 2.5m, he is going to be extremely valuable. If they want to buy more, they easily could (granted they don't have the money). This was a masterclass of a trade from Zito and a complete blunder by Staios

I’m happy to see Davidson is looking for stability and rewarding players for their play instead of having the team be a revolving door over the next few years. Building the culture is just as important as gaining assets.

I frankly cant understand lopsided voting on "No", 1 year prove it deal for a future HoF with plenty of winning experience. Not to mention the overwhelming chemistry with Cat. If he struggles off the surgery so be it, but the risk-reward is favorable given it's not a long term commitment. No question a W for the team.

Chicago Blackhawks signed Philipp Kurashev (2 Years / $2,250,000 AAV)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CSStrowbridge</b></div><div>He only scored 25 points and he was a defensive nightmare. Last year, his On-Ice Goal Differential was over 14 BELOW expected, so this is a bad performance on a bad team. Furthermore, this is actually worse than the year before, so it's not just that he's young and getting better.</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CSStrowbridge</b></div><div>It is more likely that he will be such a defensive liability that he will hurt Bedard, because the puck will be in the wrong end of the ice far too often.</div></div>
You can't pin that on Kurashev and if you were watching most of the games, you would realize he's actually a pretty solid 2 way guy and that's his biggest strength. Remember, you are talking about a team that was a dumpster fire and every player on the team had a negative goal differential....not shocking and as such is a poor way to be evaluating when it comes to a individual player. This is a prime example of the eye test being WAY more important than a stat like that.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>RememberTheRoar</b></div><div>I like the signing, but I'm a little surprised. I thought for sure Murphy would make for some tasty trade bait at the deadline. They could have flipped him for a 1st or 2nd round pick and then open up a roster spot for one of the younger guys.</div></div>
None of the younger guys can fill the role. They’re all projected 3rd pairing or lower. Maybe Beaudin or Mitchell can become 2nd pairing guys but they need more time and experience. It’s a smart move to lock up Murphy during his prime for cheap. Now they have Jones, Murphy and McCabe as their top 3 of 4 Dmen which is pretty solid.

He can still put the puck in the net like no one else, but all the other things he stopped doing lowers his on-ice value overall. Poor contract but that was to be expected.

(ARI/VAN) - Ekman-Larsson, Garland for Beagle, Eriksson, Roussel, 1st, 2nd, 7th
this deal looks absolutely nuts on the surface but it might actually be the most balanced one we've seen this offseason. OEL's contract is very close (if it isn't already) to being in negative value territory, so AZ is taking on similar money with the cap dumps but with less term. On Vancouver's side, you're getting a young top 6 forward in Garland, and the hope the OEL can find some of his old game, and giving up the 9th pick is reasonable for that package. Solid deal for both sides
Side note: When was the last time the NHL offseason was this exciting?

1. Being trusted by Rick Bowness at age 20
2. Being trusted by Rick Bowness to carry the FCC line at age 20
3. Leading a team that wasn't a contender at the time to the finals at age 20
4. Being a solid player under Rick Bowness's stupid system, and being asked to play a defensive role not an offensive one.
You get the point.</div></div>
It seems people lack this thing called foresight....
Heiskanen at 25-29 is gonna be better than how he is now and the cap will eventually go up again.
Lock him up for the prime of his career for a reasonable hit. Such a no brainer that this contract will age well.

Carolina Trade idea
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Caniac2000</b></div><div>That's still a no from Carolina. In terms of analytics, Reimer has been as good as if not better than Lehner, and the base stats aren't too far apart. Why would Carolina give ALL OF THAT for a negligible upgrade? People don't realise how good Reimer has been. As for gus.... meh. There are options, but if it's a reasonable price I don't mind trading for him, but I think Hawks fans and canes haves have a very different feel for a fair price</div></div>
You consistently use the same talking point that Carolina doesn’t “need” a goaltender. Whether this true or not, it has already been reported they are interested in Lehner whether you like it or not. They are also shopping for D and a good amount of cheap defensemen have already been moved. This proposal makes sense based off all the reports even if it doesn’t fit what you like.

What should have been
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hockeyplayer1</b></div><div>Okay, nobody will ever convince me that Zach Smith is a better NHL player than Artem Anisimov. I jsut had to get that out there before I try to explain myself.
Smith is the 5th forward for PK on the Hawks. Its Carpenter, Kampf, Toews, Saad, then a rather decent fall in ice time to Smith. Anisimov was also 5th. Your fifth forward does not make you go from 31st to 6th. It's likely due to a schematic change from coaching and Ryan Carpenter who has been EVERYTHING the Hawks hoped he would be. To add to this Anisimov is a FAR superior 5-on-5 player than Smith is. Anisimov would also not be a center on this team which would open him up to more production.
With Joki over Maatta you would put Gus back on his natural side and would run Koekkoek/Seeler as the 6th man the same as what is occurring today. Is Joki that much better than Maatta RIGHT NOW? That can be debated for sure. They bring different elements but Joki will certainly be better in the future and is cost controlled still.
I get your point on Kahun. He doesn't stand out. Isn't much of a special teams player. However, his 5-on-5 production this year and last year is some of the best in the league in terms of pts/60 min. He is sound defensively, works his ass off, and provides exactly what you look for in a #9 forward. And the biggest point is he's undeniably a better player for the Hawks lineup than Nylander.</div></div>
Maybe I'm just pleasantly surprised with Zack Smith. I was thinking the world was ending when we got him. I like his physical presence...although I would 100% agree with you that Carpy is a huge plus for Bowman. 3 years $1M per is awesome. I also get what you're saying about Joki. I can't defend that trade and wont try. Kahun…he's fine. There are subtle things that make me even more ok with the trade. Look at what Defensive Dmen are getting these days in trade value. Kahun has $2.85M MAX performance bonuses this year. He's already hit a number of the smaller ones. I'm ok with that trade.

More of an offensive defenceman, kind of a lesser Boqvist. Could see him being a second - third liner in the future.</div></div>
He's the guy that plays opposite the Boqvists, Merkleys, Bouchards...quite literally all three of those guys actually. He's 6'4" and 207 lbs as a 19 year old kid. I'm hoping you're right that he can bring that kind of offense, but I think he'll likely the 2-way or even defensive dman opposite a puck moving dman. All teams need these guys too. I'm just happy he's been getting top pair minutes for 3 straight years on a quality team. Good pick up by Stan. We need another larger Dman in the defensive prospect pool.
