It is if you’re completely going off of the stat with no other reference to back it up. Such as watching him play. Or knowing that he has a 60-30 o-zone starting percentage. Or that he has 18 take away to his 51 five aways. Plus minus can be a useful stat.
For instance, Kane is a career plus 61 while Toews is a career plus 198. Is that a useless stat? No. And it becomes even more important when you know that Toews almost always has played against the other teams top offensive line.

To be fair “this good” is very dependent on what you’re saying is good. He might be the worst defenseman I’ve ever seen in his own end. He’s lost. Clueless. He’s putting up point but he’s also a minus on the best offensive season he’s ever had.

Maybe they just haven’t found the right trade that they like to move Callahan. They aren’t like Stan Bowman and willing to get absolutely fleeced just to move a bad contract.

(CAR/MIN) - Rask for Niederreiter
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ON3M4N</b></div><div>I don't see this trade as lopsided as others.
Over the last 3 years...
Nino - 227 GP / 63G / 69A / 0.58 PGP
Rask - 233 GP / 51G / 73A / 0.53 PGP
Production is roughly the same. Rask plays a premium position and is solid in the dot at a career 51.1% FO win. I'd say it's a pretty even deal.</div></div>
Agreed, and Rask is younger and is being paid less. Even if you include this year the difference is only .5 PPG vs .56 PPG since 2015-16. Niederreiter has also played on a playoff team while Rask has played on a bottom feeder.

TDL moves
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>exo2769</b></div><div>Decent moves. I was thinking that Kruger might be better suited for COL. Their PK stinks and their 4th line center right now is Sheldon Dries...who isn't playing well. But other than that. as a Hawks fan I'd do these. If AA couldn't get a 2nd...then I'd just keep him. He's still the only net front presences the Hawks have besides Toews.</div></div>
Agreed. Anisimov has value and is still valuable to the Hawks despite all the trash people talk about him. He's been the same player his entire career. Nothing special but a solid middle six guy. His contract isn't horrible either like everyone says. I think Forsling could potentially pull in a second rounder as well. He's only 22 years old after all. Their is still development to be had with him.
This is the first TDL post I've seen for the Hawks that even makes relative sense.

"These deals almost lock up Hughes for Chicago"
You must not be familiar with the Draft Lottery. Owning even the top 3 picks in the draft doesn't even give you a 50% chance at the #1 overall. Sure they'll still probably get 3 great/star players but they are far from having Hughes "locked up".

(EDM/FLA) - Wideman + 2019 3rd for Petrovic
I don't see this as being such a horrible trade for EDM. Petrovic is the more proven player, is younger, and Wideman wasn't helping EDM at all. A 3rd is probably a bit much but its not like they got fleeced.
BTW Petrovic has averaged 21:13 of ice time in his first two games with the Oilers compared to the 11:23 Wideman played there.

(ARI / CHI) - Schmaltz for Perlini, Strome
As much as I can't stand Stanny Blowman I'm going to hold my judgement on this one. Its only going to take the rest of this year to determine if they won or lost this one.
My initial reaction is he sold low on Schmaltz, feels 2 players is better than 1, and is taking draft positions into account like so many people do. News flash people, draft position means literally NOTHING a few years after the 18 year olds were drafted. Perlini was the better player when drafted and very clearly isn't anymore. Strome was certainly a much better player at 18 than Schmaltz was. But at 21 it sure seems like Schmaltz is the better player. Its very unlikely the development trend will flip back in Strome's favor.
There is still the chance Strome becomes a solid 2/3C and a 45-50 point player and Perlini continues to be a 15 goal 30 point player or better. In which case I do have to say Chicago wins this. BUUUTT I'm not sure I see Strome becoming a top-6 player. I do see Perlini being a good middle-6 scoring winger throughout his career though.
I also don't picture Schmaltz being a real difference maker on any team. He is baby **** soft and lazy. He'll probably continue to be a 50-60 point guy but never someone who wins you close games or any playoff games.

I don't get everyone making comments about how Chiarelli is so bad because of THIS trade.
Eberle for Strome is worse than Eberle for Spooner. Obviously neither player is as good as Eberle but that trade is over and done with.
Strome for Spooner at the same salary is a GOOD trade for EDM.

Helping TBL
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>exo2769</b></div><div>Hmmm.... Us Hawks fans also have a unique perspective on Raddysh. He played with Debrincat in Eire. It was between him and Debrincat as to who was the best player on the team. Debrincat pulled away at the end of the season and Raddysh stayed in Eire...to which his point total dropped when he needed to play the opposing shut down line and his points dropped by 25ish points. I see Raddysh as a career #3RW as you have here. I like that he'll be cost controlled for (3) years. I like the 2nd round pick. I guess I'd be fine with this trade. It's on the smaller end of things (As far as lofty goals for Stan), but TBL would JUMP at this trade so the team would 110% do it. However, I doubt Callahan accepts this, but that's a different point all together.
***EDIT*** that 2nd line scares me. I don't think it'll be as good as every else thinks. Saad doesn't play the type of game Schmaltz and Kane do. Just my opinion.
***EDIT EDIT*** Oh Jeeze I just saw the 2nd rounder going to TBL...NOPE...TBL should be sending the 2nd to take on the $5.8M Cap Dump. You don't send a 2nd round pick to take on a career #3RW.</div></div>
Not sure I agree on Raddysh's upside. He played on a bad Otters team last year. In the playoffs after being traded he put up nearly the same PPG as he did the year before on a stacked Otters team. He was still top 10 in the league as far as PPG in the playoffs. This year will be a big year to see how he does in the AHL but I think its premature to write him off as a career 3rd liner.
I was debating on adding the 2nd or not. I think the deal could be done without the pick but I also don't think TBL NEED to make this trade. They are in a great spot cap wise even with Callahan.

While I don't disagree that Slavin is a great young D-man and will be very good for many years to come, lets pump the breaks on his value there. He is absolutely not worth Saad, Forsling, Boqvist, two 1st rounders and "some prospects"
I would argue that almost no one in the league is worth that except McDavid and 2-3 others.
Also to your "best D-man in the league U25", I think most meople would agree that if they could choose they'd much rather have Provorov, Werenski, and McAvoy over Slavin.

Not convinced Columbus will get a big return for Panarin considering the entire league knows he isn't resigning with them.
I think there could be a deal made with OTT that involves retained salary on Smith. Potentially $1M retained. This saves OTT over $4.5M even if they were to buy him out after this season. Heck they might even make that trade for future considerations. The only question here is do the Hawks want him as a 3C for a few years. Anisimov is certainly a better player but would be costing twice as much.

Thanks for restating exactly what I said in my post.
"This seems like more of a trade Bowman made to help Kero get another NHL shot"
Also Chicago money IS NOT Rockford money. Yes they are affiliates, but that does not mean the Ice Hogs have the same piggy bank as the Blackhawks. Also Kero had another year on his contract while Chabut did not.

There absolutely zero chance I'd give up Murphy, Highmore, and a high 2nd round pick for rights to a pending UFA 10 days before he becomes a free agent. Especially if there is no contract pre-discussed. It makes literally no sense.
Giving up an NHL defenseman, a bottom 6 forward, and a high 2nd for 3 days of negotiations before literally every team in the league has the opportunity to talk to him. Seriously?
