<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>I_Know_Nothing_About_Hockey_Or_Any_Sport2</b></div><div>The Sabres' 1st round pick could quite easily turn into Jack Hughes, whereas the Lightning's is almost certain to be in the bottom few, especially after this trade. Buffalo isn't giving up their first round pick in exchange for cap dumps, even with Yzerman negotiating for the Lightning. Conacher's not a future superstar, and giving that package to Buffalo in exchange for a 2nd or 3rd round pick would be a good trade for the Lightning.

And you're overpaying for Karlsson. Again, the Buffalo pick is potentially Jack Hughes, Domingue is a solid backup goalie, Gourde provides much-needed forechecking (as well as scoring) to the Lightning's offense, and Lipanov is a promising prospect. And not only do you give them that, but you take on the expensive contract of the aging Craig Anderson (with an NTC). If the Lightning acquire Buffalo's 1st round pick, for one year of Karlsson, they can pretty much just give any prospect who might make the NHL and maybe a mid-draft pick and they've already outbid everybody else.

I'm not sure why on earth Boston wants Coburn, and offering Colton (who the Bruins could have signed themselves, had they wanted to) does not change that.

Rick Nash isn't that good, and at that price, the Lightning should stay far away from him. And if they do sign him, putting him above Palat in the roster is a bad idea.

I like where you're going with this (trying to avoid trading Sergachev or Foote, doing a three-way trade, etc.), but this just doesn't really fit the needs of the sides involved well.</div></div>
