<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>RipNasty</b></div><div>He signed Chairot to more than 5 million, Holl for 3. Perron for term. Etc etc. Yzerman does this and has a history of it. He loves his old vets and he will pay them more than he should. He's already doing it in Detroit but he didn't hit the lottery with a goalie and a 2nd round pick like Kucherov yet. You'll see, he's overrated. He's going to spin his wheels for years. And then you'll get mad because it's been 5-6 years of Yzerman and no real progress has been made.</div></div>

Chiarot makes 4.75M. Perron was signed for 2 years. Batting 1/3 on basic searches on CapFriendly already.
While in Tampa, 3 playoff misses, 3 Conference Final Loses, and a Cup final loss. Swap 2 3rd liners, and that teams wins back to back cups and lost in the Cup finals. Not bad results, considering where they started.
In Detroit, he took over a team that was spiraling into last place, had no notable prospects, and only 2 and a half good players. In 4 years, with 1 pick in the top 5, has a high end prospect pool, and is generally on the upswing. In case you didn't know, building a team from scratch doesn't yield a cup contender that quickly. By the time the Wings' best prospects are established, Chiarot and Holl will be gone, Copp and Compher will be either gone or in the last year. This team has 7 roster spots filled for more than 2 years. But please, go on about all the boat anchor contracts the Wings totally have that are blocking prospects. Edvinsson is on the only arguable case, but he's 20 and the NHL may not be the best place for his development right now.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Garak</b></div><div>That isn't what I said, though. What I said was "we have multiple prospects that SHOULD be AS GOOD or (possibly) BETTER". Plus, we have all the time in the world for these kids to develop and join the NHL ranks. We don't need them now or next year, unless they are ready. So, nothing makes him a better prospect than Raymond was other than the fact that we have him and we don't have to spend anything to get him. "Better" is subjective anyway. It all depends on what a given GM is trying to build, how that team plays or wants to play, as well as being a cultural fit. Obviously, Nazar fits something that KD likes and envisions being part of CHI's future. He is tough, a fantastic skater, a great passer/playmaker, can score goals too but that isn't his strongest suit, and he is responsible/dependable in all 3 zones. Also, why would a rebuilding team go out of their way to spend a top 5 pick on someone they don't need? So, yes, need has everything to do with it. There is no reason to trade for a player you don't need.</div></div>

That's a fair enough assessment, and to be honest, I was kind of hoping the Wings would get Moore at 9 during the draft. Pretty happy with Danielson regardless, but another Dylan Larkin-esque center would be kinda poetic. I just think that Raymond is one of the more underrated U23 players in the NHL, and it seems that a lot of posters here think their organization has 3 of him in their system. Success like his, Mercer, and Jarvis had is more of the exception than the rule, in my opinion.
Also to be fair, I didn't say that Chicago should trade for anybody. Building through the draft is most likely the best strategy, and it's paying dividends outside of Bedard already.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GhostGM92</b></div><div>Raymond was held up by Larkin and he was still -17 last season. He's extremely bad defensively is one of the softest players in the league. He's bad with Dylan Larkin and he's really bad if he's not with him. Right now he's not even on the first power play unit. And his shot isn't that good, most of his goals are from five feet in front of the net. He's not a good winger fundamentally. He's not good in his own end and he's soft on the boards, he doesn't forecheck. Patrick Kane isn't great defensively either and is the same kind of player as Raymond but way better if healthy. Lucas Raymond honestly stinks, Patrick Kane has a great shot and has elite hands and creativity.</div></div>

Plus/Minus in a vacuum is borderline useless, and Raymond spent 47.3% of his time on a line with Dylan Larkin. That's less than half, in case you were wondering. He has more takeaways than giveaways, a positive penalty differential, positive Corsi/Fenwick, 55.1% on-ice xGoals, (higher than the off-ice xGoals). Literally nothing you're claiming is supported by actual evidence, and if you actually WATCHED a game, you'd see that Raymond is one of, if not the most talented forward on the Wings. Get over yourself, you are factually and figuratively wrong.

https://moneypuck.com/player.htm?p=8478508 Stats on your beloved Yakov Trenin, by the way. Not great in comparison.
