Detroit Red Wings signed J.T. Compher (5 Years / $5,100,000 AAV)
I feel like he’s building this team backwards. Andrew Copp, Michael Rasmussen & JT Compher could be the best 3rd line in the NHL in 2 seasons….
I’m just as confused as anyone else.. this, along with the Gostisbehere signing are just puzzling.

If we can get him to sign for $18m it could work but right now we’re $19m over the cap :(

U left us with $19m next year, (assume the cap goes up by $3m and we have $22m), to re-sign Moritz Seider, Lucas Raymond, Jonathan Berggren & Michael Rasmussen.

Drury would cream his pants if he was able to parlay Lafreniere into Berggren & Rasmussen.
Detroit declines quite easily.
Lafreniere also hasn’t proved he’s worth 4 years at $4.75m.
Rangers can keep him and hope he scores more than 14 goals this year.

What is the return for Willy
I wouldn’t say this would be the exact deal but maybe something like Travis Konecny plus a draft pick would make sense for both teams potentially.
If not Philly than elsewhere for a player that is good and signed for multiple seasons at a reasonable cap it.

Then Keenan.... hmmm yet another good size LHD. Interesting choice.
Then Phelan.... at least he is a RHD, but ASP and Gibson were already taken this draft lol
It seems like he is dead set on building the D first and continuing to do so until its perfect lol.</div></div>
Yeah, I woulda thought we wouldn’t be drafting a LHD for next 3 years tbh lol. Like, okay draft is some RHD and hope 1-2 sticks but, what are we really going to do with all of these LHD now. We have like 15 as of now. I would have thought we woulda went IN on centers in this draft but no, we drafted more LHD than centers…..

This isn’t really designed as a “pay to move” sort of deal, it’s just a singular component of a deal with other moving parts.
Also, does Murray even have a legitimate injury that will put him on LTIR as a certainty next year? It’s not like this is a Carey Price type situation here.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>palhal</b></div><div>To answer your question on Murray, gotta think it would easier to buyout Murray at 687,000 and 2.7m over the next two seasons. Leafs have so few prospects....gotta think they have to keep Niemela, He Liljegren are the only two young NHLers in the Leafs system, and that's assuminging Niemela is going to be an NHLer.</div></div>
If I’m the Leafs I’m gonna try and save every penny I possibly can so avoiding a buyout at all costs would be a priority to me.
Personally, I think the value is very fair and attractive for TOR to make this sort of deal. Idk how they view Niemela but, I myself am quite fond of him so, I wouldn’t personally trade <em>him</em>. But I’d be ecstatic as a wings fan to land him considering how high I am on the player.

I appreciate all your points. The Backlund deal maybe would be OK before the season and it’s always nice to be able to flip at the deadline. I tend to look for more of a Sean Monahan type deal where we get paid to take someone like say, Granlund from PIT and then retain on a trade later to get more assets back. I’ve been waiting for Yzerman to make those sort of creative moves like that but the closest we’ve gotten to something like that with him was the Nick Leddy deal(s).
I don’t think it as pressing of an issue to identify Ville Husso’s successor right now. I’d prefer to allow things to unfold as they may in 2 years time and sign someone else to a shorter 1-2 year deal. I’d rather face the challenge of Husso’s contract expiring by having to either re-sign him when the time comes or lure a good/better goalie to sign here to play tandem with Cossa.

I’m not totally against signing Jarry, I just don’t think signing a goaltender for that amount and term necessarily aligns with the direction of this team and the position 2-3 years from now. I think a 2 year deal I’d feel a whole lot better about.
I could appreciate the anatomy of the Faksa deal however, I think we should get more.
I don’t like the buying of Backlund or any player for that matter. I’d rather sell Kubalik for a 2nd or a 3rd as opposed to packaging him with our own picks to get an upgrade for a half of an unimportant season.
I also think Kasper makes the team out of camp and plays the entire year up here unless an injury prevents him from doing so.
All ur other signings are negligible. I’m fine with them.

I think he’s a fun player and dynamic at times but what I have here in these lineups is like a long term sort of projection of the roster.
More specifically due to the LHD prospects coming up in the next 3-4 years would be more impactful to Walman remaining with the team beyond the conclusion of his current contract moreso than his level of play.

Lots of attention paid to LHD in this; I’d eliminate all the trades and instead of offer sheeting Miller, I’d elect to try and snag Evan Bouchard from EDM. He’s a RHD, which we need, and it wouldn’t require all these other corresponding moves that aren’t very likely.
