Not a chance in hell Detroit is giving up good future assets to add a 33 year old signed for 4 more years. You'd get like a mid round pick at best since Detroit would be the one doing you the bigger favor. If you want a better return find another team to take him on

I was thinking more along the lines both old and severely overvalued by their current fan base.

Is this a joke? This may very well be the worst trade I have ever seen on this site. Congratulations.

Insanely hard pass by Detroit and you're not even remotely close and that's not even taking into account that Raymond is untouchable. Gross.

Detroit is still rebuilding and isn't even a playoff team yet no way they give up that much for a 33yr old. It makes no sense.

Detroit Red Wings Draft Board
DET is the most thin on centers of all kind. Another scoring wing could also help, but not as much as centers. And I don't see DET being super-high on another LD. They have several of them in pipeline already (Edvinsson, Wallinder, Johansson, Viro, Sebrango, Buium, McIsaac). I guess they could select exclusively defensive D-man, but majority of the guys projects as NHL players. Roster spots are limited. On the other hand are their RDs already in the NHL. Tuomisto is not in NHL, he is 21 and at RD position might be described as the only prospect with chances to become NHL-er. I would be surprised if DET wouldn't select another NHL-projectable RHD in 2nd or 3rd round.
So for 1st round I agree on BPA forward. Kemell, Lambert, Kasper, Nazar, Russians etc., almost anybody makes sense.
1st pick in 2nd round: center, preferebly big one (Gaucher, Bystedt). If both are gone, BPA big RHD.
2nd pick in 2nd round: probably big RHD. If they already have one, another C makes sense (Goyette, Kulich, Beck, Hughes...)
3rd round and lower: BPAs. DET love Swedish Frolunda team (Persson, Ratkovic Berndtsson, Milosevic). In OHL they like Guelph's players (Bertuzzi, Fabri, Smith, Suter). I guess Yzerman is not as huge fan of a program as former GM Holland, but he traded for Suter anyway. So selecting Zhilkin, Poitras, Karabela or Buchinger in 3rd round and lower would not surprise me.

I’d be sick if the Wings trade any high picks for a defenseman over the age of 27. Not the best trade for Detroit in plural ways.

I doubt it. A second seems pretty fair considering Detroit is one of the few teams that can take Petry without retention. Better defensemen have been traded recently for a pair of seconds or a second and a third and they’ve all been younger and cheaper

Yeah but he can only be traded to 16 teams and only a few of those teams would be interested in acquiring him with his age, cap hit and mixed season. A second is good value.

We'll give you Zadina and Rasmussen for E Pettersson and Q Hughes though. :sarcasm

I think for $5,000,000 x 3 years it would be okay, It would definitely be an overpay if it was the full value of $6,250,000 x 3 years.

Yup if Jeff Petry was a desirable player he wouldn't still be in Montreal right now. But Kent Hughes still thinks he'll get a kings ransom for him. Like i said he's totally delusional if he thinks that Petry has tons of value. Sure if he retains 50% on him he might get something decent for him but not at full value.

Hughes saying that they won't use futures to move him doesn't exactly scream that hes indemand or that they expect a big return. Its basically saying give us something and you can have him.

Sergachev 2C and another Rangers Trade
From day 1 Yzerman has preached patience. Detroit isn't a playoff team and they more then likely won't be next season so with prospects like Wallinder and Edvinsson there is no hurry to go out and get a player like Sergachev.
