San Jose- Eichel
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>battadan</b></div><div>San Jose dump bad contract (Vlasic)
give up 2 NHL ready solid players, and a few high picks (2nd's will be still top 30-40 picks)
get rid of Hertl who wants out. unlikely for extension, but for the sake of the post lets say he does
take on Okposo to even out money. only 2 years left. San Jose can ride that out.
Thoughts? not a fan of either team. I just see a fit.</div></div>
If I were the Sabres, I would be looking for NHL players that are readily available to be in the lineup, compete, and win. The kids will continue to play and learn the fundamentals the right ways. Winning must come sooner than later also. I would like to look at the Sabres for the first 20 games of the season to see who is producing, who is leading, and who is available to address the highest needs of the Sabres' many needs.

Pens start the rebuild
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ichbinian</b></div><div>Okay, no rebuild - but where are Penguins prospects? The cupboard is bare, even according to Brian Burke.</div></div>
The cupboard is bare because previous general manager Jim Rutherford kept trading away draft picks. If the Penguins can have a quantity of draft picks and pick well in the 2022 and 2023 drafts, the cupboard can begin filling up.

If Arizona retains a percentage of Kessel's salary, the Penguins could send Riikola and and prospect losing in development competition to the Coyotes. If the Penguins valued Riikola, he would have played more.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Dpellz90</b></div><div>Absolutely not. Kessel is terrible now. He is not worth a decent prospect and a 2nd round pick.</div></div>
Kessel has not produced as much for the Coyotes as he did for the Penguins. If he was still with Pittsburgh, his production would be higher, and the Penguins could have gone deeper into postseason play in 2020 and 2021.

I am not sold on Chytil and Strome yet. Chytil would be expected to take a jump from being a 3C with the Rangers to a first line forward.

Eichel to Rangers
I would like to see how the goaltending tandem between Anderson and Dell works. The tandem exists because Ullmark signed with Boston, and Luukkonen needs another season with Rochester before joining the Sabres full-time in 2022-2023. The Sabres will need a goaltending partner for Luukkonen in 2022-2023.

I wonder if Miller's role with the Sabres may improve with liability Ristolainen gone. The Sabres could use help long term in right defensemen.

The Penguins have to find ways to stay within the salary cap, reload and improve, and compete. Lacking larger, physical players with skill has been an issue.

I do not know what happened to Simon during his one season with Calgary. I hope he does not go the way of Conor Sheary.
Rodrigues is a hot/cold situation. He has played well enough to remain with the Penguins. He needs to take his game to a higher level, produce more, and demonstrate why he is a real deal.
The Penguins could use someone to prevent the team from being pushed around.

Losing Tanev in the expansion draft was bad. I wish Zucker was selected. If there is another player that can play like and be better than Tanev, the Penguins should consider that direction.

The Sabres do not need multiple pieces if there are impact players readily available to help tool the roster to compete. They have enough assets now to develop in the system and to draft.
