Agreed. I love the picks. I expected a C with one of them but happy we went high upside at 24. Hoping for a C today.

Yeah the entire point of trading Dumba would be to clear cap space to backfill another position. Not replace him with another def cap hit. He’s too emotionally valuable to the Wild for this type of trade. IMO.

I'd love to trade for him. But don't use Addison to do it when lesser prospects tacked onto one of our two firsts would get the same trade deal done.
Edit: Besides, at what point has Dach looked like a potential 1C to date in the NHL? He's absolutely a buy low candidate, but that doesn't make him a sure thing either.</div></div>
Dach? He was traded to Mtrl.

Minnesota commits to Fleury
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>RazWild</b></div><div>Addison is only 22 and it typically takes defensive prospects until their 24-26 to become defensively proficient.
Furthermore, Spurgeon's contract changes to a 10-team M-NTC after two more seasons. He doesn't have to stay here for the full five, what are you smoking? He's movable after the next two and will be 35 once that change happens.
That directly lines up with Addison's 24-25 year old seasons. Which is well within the normal typical age curve for defenseman.
But we need to <em>rush</em> a prospect before he's ready? How is that smart? That prospect is horrendous defensively and needs to improve on that area of his game before he'll ever be trusted to play in the NHL.
<em>But let's deal him when we only have one other prospect who's close to his ceiling.</em> That seems like the smart play to me.
SMDH.</div></div>
Actually the Avg age for a rookie is 22. They just said that at the draft last night. So we wouldn’t be rushing him. Spurgeon’s replacement likely isn’t in the system yet. Russo has not mentioned your theory once. And moving a 35 year old Smaller Dman with that cap hit? You’re asking me what I’m smoking lol. Good luck.

How does that make sense?
Dumba is still under contract for at least through next season. Your being premature by at least a year in your calculations.
There have been numerous articles and comments made that want him to play less like Dumba and more like Spurgeon. Building/becoming and learning to be defensively sound takes time. The average age for a defensive prospect to become defensively proficient at an NHL level is 24-26.
Again, Addison is 22. By default, that should grant him a reprieve for at least the next couple of years. Besides, I don't think Addison was ever Dumba's replacement. He's Spurgeon's.
This deal changes nothing for long term projections.</div></div>
Getting a potential top 6 C doesn’t change the long term projections of the team? That’s weird. We’ve been trying for over 20 years to get a legit 1C. CM may not be that now but he’s got potential to be a legit 1C.

You think Addison is Spurgeon replacement? Spurgeon is here for like 5 more years lol. Rush him? He’s played 2 seasons in the AHL. How many AHL seasons does he need? You trade Dumba now to get an asset for him, that’s why. Otherwise Dumba leaves for nothing after next season. The smart play is to trade Dumba, move Addison up. If Addison fails then you make an adjustment at the trade deadline. He could very well take off though.
Yes, they want Addison to play like Spurgeon, because Spurgeon is very good. Not because he’s going to replace Spurgeon lol.

If Flower is re-signed it's not automatic that Talbot gets traded. The only reason to do so kinda just got delt to LA, so I don't see this happening.</div></div>
Russo broke that comment down as basically GM speak. Brandon M on KfAN today speculated that the holdup for MAF re-signing might be that MAF doesn’t want to split with Talbot if he stays, he wants to be the 1.

If they’re keeping Dumba. I would make this move in a heartbeat. It’s either time for Addison to step up into a top 4 role or to trade Dumba. Having both doesn’t make sense IMO if this deal is I. The table.

From MN standpoint it’s Miller’s contract extension that presents the problem. We love the player, just can’t afford him. And they wouldn’t do this deal for a rental. So I’d bet MN rejects unless Miller signed a team friendly extension, on a team he’s yet to play for lol. Seems highly unlikely.
Trading Dumba clears 6 mil cap. Jost 2 mil.
The Dead cap hit increases two mil the next two season. So we clear 6 million in space. And Miller wants what 8/9/10 mil per? Numbers just don’t add up unless we have another cap casualty.
I’d love for us to find a way to get Miller, I just don’t think we make the other necessary moves to clear cap for it to happen.

2nd round picks
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>futurehofer</b></div><div>I see zero upside in this deal for Minnesota. We have $4 million in cap room to sign a backup goalie, a depth forward, and leave room for injuries. Making this trade doesn't fill either of those holes, but it cuts out $500k for us to work with and it drops us back almost a full round. Add on to that the fact that Mittelstadt hasn't played close to a full season in 3 years and we now we definitely need the extra forward to compensate for his injuries. From our perspective, we're taking on the worse contract and paying for the right to do so which makes this an easy pass.</div></div>
I wouldn’t say zero upside. I’d say Casey is a better player than Jost is. He still has the potential to be a top 6C. I’d accept this deal if I was BG. His injuries have held him back, but he’s young enough where as he understands the game better that could change. This feels like a minimal ask for a potential top 6 C.

I don’t think this trade makes Van or MN happy. Miller doesn’t seem like a fit in MN given our cap issues.
To make this work long term for us, MN would have to move another salary (on the books for 2023-2024 or longer), not just Dumba. As his salary is off the books after next season anyways (he’s unlikely to re-sign). And MN would need to sign Miller to an extension, which I don’t see happening.
Van would likely want more for Miller with an extension in place.
I could certainly be wrong, but this feels like a lose lose trade.

Wild Trade Candidates for 2022-23
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>iAce</b></div><div>I think Dumba brings some great qualities to the Wild. I just don't think it's worked here and a new environment might do the trick. This whole roster has underachieved and Dumba has been here for the entire ride. Brodin is another. Spurgeon is another. Those 3 have been around for the Parise and Suter era and not being able to get it done. That's half our D-core and they have all shown break downs at different times in the playoffs. We need some new and fresh blood on the back end and we have some great prospects coming up. I want to see what Addison can do in a season. He's played well for us in his short stints. Lambos has developed really well and has some great upside on the left side. I don't like log jamming the left side up with long term deals. Brodin is on a 6 year deal. They have Merrill on a 3 year deal and soon to be signing Middleton. A Dumba move allows the core to retool over the cap hell years. Addison deserves a shot. If he doesn't turn out to be the guy we think he can be, we have Faber and can trade Addison. But Addison deserves a shot.</div></div>
