What is the Ceiling
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>earl08</b></div><div>I think Nuke has 30G potential but don't think he's selfish enough for 40G. I also think 29 & 96 were way overused last year; best case is a reduction in minutes (& possibly small reduction in pts). CMac did a good job to address weaknesses & they should expect to go all the way!</div></div>
My thinking with the train having a big goal season is that most of our team are more passers than shooters. Johansen will most likely have three times more assists than goals and Lehkonen is a guy who is good at getting space for his linemates. That could force Nichuschkin to shoot more, you're probably right though.
Definitely agree on the overused part, it changed the way Mackinnon played too. The best part of his game is the quick spurts, which is hard to do playing 24 minutes a night.
I honestly would like another signing or two, as of now we will be relying on some unproven guys to make the roster and provide secondary scoring. Foudy could catch fire with the play style of his linemates like I have above, and then my point is moot.
Cheers to hoping they go all the way!

I agree with you there, but Manson has to start on the bottom pairing and that would leave only JJ or MacDermid as his partner. I do not like any of those matchups. I would almost rather see us go five defensemen and play JJ on the PK or when the game is over.
I know Bednar is high on a couple of defensemen who played for the Eagles last year, so it's not out of the realm of possibility to see Hunt or another guy in the AHL in that spot. Save Mac for a forward and JJ as the seventh defenseman looks a lot better, even if Hunt isn't a big upgrade regarding speed.

Colorado Avalanche signed Ross Colton (4 Years / $4,000,000 AAV)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Boltsbeathabs</b></div><div>Good I hope for Colorado's sake he's not dumb enough to put Drouin in the top 6. Colton is a much better player.</div></div>
Drouin will have more than a few games alongside Mackinnon, that was one of the main points in why he signed with the Avs. The real question is whether he has any games in the top six in 2024. If not then the Avs will most likely look to the trade route would be my guess, that or play it safe until Rantanen is signed long-term.
Colton is a really good player who along with Wood could make an excellent third line, Avs have learned in the past that they can't be a one or even two-line team.

Foudy would be good but not sure which role he's ready for, I assume if drouin sucks they might try oulosson in a top 6 role depending on his camp</div></div>
Yeh, you're right he most likely is, I forgot about that. Ensuring we have at least eight competent defensemen makes even more sense unless they plan on a Hunt/Macdermid/Johnson rotation as sixth defensemen. I hate that plan personally. Previous injury history with the Avs defenseman would think that would make Macfarland make a move too.
Foudy this year would be like Newhook last year, rotating around the lineup trying to figure out where he fits. I'd rather have that as an injury backup plan, so hopefully, we do see a couple more signings, even if those guys start in the AHL.

If cogs needs a maintenance day you probably throw in macdermid or hunt.
I like the idea of signing Foote, maybe Maxime comtois over bovquest, bigger body more upside</div></div>
There's been a little talk of possibly buying out that contract, but you're probably right that wont happen.
I think Hunt they see as an AHL guy who can come up if need be, Macdermid just wasn't the same last year. I could see Ducks or Hawks wanting him as an enforcer and Mac being fine with getting him off the books.
I could for sure see Comtois, I was just thinking of a more skilled guy to bring more out of the bigger/grittier guys like Wood and Colton. I would also rather have a backup plan for a guy who could possibly play top six in case Drouin doesn't work out as planned.
I wouldn't mind either one of Avs signing a couple more guys or giving guys like Foudy/Behrens a shot out of camp. I doubt they are ready for full-time, but it's a possibility, and having younger kids jump in could give a jump to a team who seemed to be a little down on themselves at certain points last year.

Agreed, I did include a few other signings. I honestly wouldn't be surprised to see 30+ games from Foudy, 15+ from Ranta and maybe a game or two from Hudon. I could see Avs going after a couple 2.5 million type guys instead of ROR. Who would you target?

I think you're right on for ROR on a 4 year, I do think he'll be more expensive at a two-year deal. That would expire in time for new Makar and Rantanen contracts.
I think EJ might have a bit left in the tank, he had a few really solid games last year, his first full one after a major injury. Who knows though, who do you think Avs should go after for a sixth right-handed defenseman?

I just don't know much value Ullmark would really have. A lot of teams will assume in his time in Buffalo and his time in Boston he's probably somewhere in the middle of those averages. Goalies don't typically get traded for a lot. It would be an interesting move though

I would think Rangers would match that immediately for Laffy.
Olausson isn't worth a lot right now, it would be a buy-low situation with a rebuilding team doubtful to give up future assets for him.
I think ROR would get more from whatever team he chooses, I would also be a little nervous about that term since he seems to be slowing down quickly.
I could see EJ signing for league minimum, he knows he's been overpaid recently for sure.

I could see this scenario as well, but at the same time, I wouldn't want the Avs to pay him 8 million a year on a six or seven-year contract. Girard gets so much flack but no one else has had so many different defensive partners and plays in so many different scenarios in the league as him. He is so valuable imo

This is only possible if the cap rise 3.5 million more than expected, if not I don't think they can afford Rodrigues or more than one year for Bo or Newhook.

I like them, I would change a couple things though. I would make Nieto the healthy scratch, move Cogs down to the fourth line and move Newhook to play with Eller and Rodrigues. I would also play Girard on the third pairing and have Bo get 20 minutes a game with Manson. These also are reliant on EJ, Manson, Landy, Helmer, and Francouz being healthy. Considering we didn't use Landy's LTIR space, I think it's a good bet that Bednar and company think that those are all a strong possibility to play game 1, which means we had one of the best TD days in my opinion! I could see Zellweger or Minytkov making the team out of camp too. Ducks have such a bright future. One of the few changes I would make would be move Zegras to wing permanently and have one of the three guys you mentioned in the draft take the center spot. Move Henrique to third line center and this team is solid up front. Not sure I see Klingberg coming back either with how indifferent hes looked this year. I'd rather have an Erik Johnson type guy and a Del Zotto guy to help stick up for the young kids and help them both on and off the ice. Also, do you guys see Eakins coming back?
