I agree that Ekholm (or Mcdonagh) should be the odd man out if NSH traded for Tkachuk due to the depth they have on the left side. I just can’t see Poile trading Ekholm the first year of his extension or Mcdonagh before he even plays a game in Nashville.

And I know Backy isn't guaranteed, but I think they should pull a Tampa and try game the system. It was between WSH and OTT for Ekholm, just thought it would help with Caps' playoff push.</div></div>
Yea I think you can only pull a Tampa if the player doesn't think they can come back beforehand, and I think Backstrom does. If he were a RD they would seriously consider it imo

I hate this BS approach that management uses. For too long they’ve been stuck in the middle of a rebuild and competing. The past 3 years they’ve been stuck in that spot and it’s the worst place you can be. I’d hate to see it, but I’d rather see Chevy go all in and go for it than sell some here, buy some there. Commit one way or the other and the fanbase will be more satisfied with that then playing with your thumbs while other teams act with confidence.
I don’t mind the base of a lot of these trades. Not sure NYI does that as they added Romanov for a top 13 pick so I’d imagine they hope he plays top 4. But Lou loves guys like Dillon so who knows. I actually love the NSH trade, just not sure NSH would, although getting out of Johansens deal may be attractive. I feel like NJ makes out pretty well in that deal, jets get good value as well. I think MTL won’t want to move Guhle, but I feel like something around Barron + Dvorak and a 1st could be made.

Islanders reject their d core is set as of rn so why should they trade a forward who they need in the upcoming season?

LOL the issue is outside of Guhle we have no D man that projects to be a top pairing guy.

For some reason I think Barron will be the target. Right hand D. Not sure what the rest of the deal will look like.

And I agree on Schmaltz, I just think the one thing yall are missing is some offensive firepower down the middle. Let JEE be your true #1, but have Schmaltz be your offensive pop.</div></div>
I definitely agree, I just don't know if Schmaltz is that guy. Internally I think Guerin believes Rossi will become that guy but we'll see.
Thinking about Middleton some more, Lauzon is actually a really good comparable for him. I still think he gets closer to $3M AAV rather than 2 though.

Think you're at least $1M short on Middleton. I also think we'll try to get more term on an extension or him.
Schmaltz had a good year but I have a hard time believing Dean would play him at center. He's not good in his own zone and Dean really likes defensively responsible centers. He's sort of intriguing to me but we'd be buying high on him for sure. It seems like the plan is to build through the draft and we'd likely have to give up a futures package like this for him... Think I'd rather just keep the picks and Greenway.

Think I do it either way, Holl or Ritchie though.</div></div>
I think Ritchie could be better on a slow dump and chase team like Dallas and if you could dump him instead of Holl, that's a pretty great depth guy to still have. Would make Dermott that much more expendable.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Iggy11</b></div><div>PLD would be fun! But I like holding on to 1sts especially when your roster is where DET is at currently. PLD would cost at minimum a 1/2/3, plus his dad is in the organization still, think both sides would be enticed to keep it together. OTT matches at almost any number, and CHI isn't gonna give up on a #3 pick unless it comes with a massive haul in return</div></div>
I agree with you, but it would be fun!
Given the state of our team, I think we're realistically missing two things:
1. A 2C who can step in as 1C when Larkin is out
2. Maturation of some of our prospects (Edvinsson, Berggren, Johansson, Niederbach, etc)
Because of this, I'd now be comfortable with sending an offer sheet to a high-value player and giving up 1/2/3 picks.

If he keeps up his current scoring pace, I think he's looking at closer to $6m -- would be a gamble at that price though. For a more stable situation, like 5 years of term for instance, I could see him signing for cheaper; this would be his 4th team in 6 years.

Similar to the Girard contract. I can see it being anywhere from 4.9-5.5 mill, but the isles would be smart to lock Dobson up long term before he becomes their #1 D
