Samuelsson looks good, but it was small number of games.
Comrie deal is only 2 years - long term is all about Levy.
Sabres are in good spot to add talent with all those assets and cap space.

Wow what a roster, quietly designed a contender roster, Kane and Quinn goal scorer and play maker centred by elite Cozens. Tuch Thompson deadly duo, Peterka Krebs Savoie the young kid line, Mittelsdat is skilled 4C with Vinny, Dahlin the generational defenceman goal scorer and skilled, Power the franchise defenceman, Martinez Joki pairing for bottom. Get a goalie and compete

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dickie_boon</b></div><div>we have one year left of eller and personally i have no intention of dumping him. hes a franchise legend (lol) and a very solid 2 way 3C. we have the cap space to take the "blow". toews isnt worth it and is a mediocre but not great "upgrade" over eller</div></div>
Sure that makes sense. But if Toews is playing as good or better than he was in the second half of last season, he would be a lot more than a "mediocre" upgrade. And even before his improved offensive production, his FO% and 2 way game were still as good as ever, he was mostly just having a hard time playing the kind of minutes he used to. But again, once he got his wind back and his feet back under him, he was fine. So, I'm not sure WSH will have the need, but if Toews is playing well this season, he will be worth a lot more than most people seem to think. And if he isn't playing well, no one will want him and he won't even be worth trading. So, either his return will be good or he won't be traded at all. Either way, CHI doesn't have a NEED to trade him. So they won't be forced to trade him for anything that doesn't help the team. There are a lot of "IF's" with him at the moment, but all this talk of him being "washed up" is totally premature. If he is at least consistent and/or takes even more steps this season coming back from "long covid", there will still be teams looking at him as a viable option at center and he will get a contract next summer if he wants to play. Wouldn't be surprised in the least bit if he sticks around in CHI for a while longer, if for no other reason than to help hit the cap floor and be a veteran/leadership presence to help young players along.

Why not make these trades Sabres sneak into the playoffs if Bruins or Caps slip
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>qc14</b></div><div>I like Granato a lot and I like what Buffalo is doing but they finished 25 points behind the Caps and 32 behind the Bruins last year. Even if they both drop by 10 or so points, which is quite a lot especially for the caps who have made serious upgrades in goal, Buffalo needs to win at least 7 more games than last year to pass them in the standings and hope that OTT, NJD, CBJ, NYI don't all improve as well. Once again I like a lot of what they have done this offseason, but they are running back pretty much the same roster + power -- 50 more GF and 50 less GA just from internal development is a massive step to take.</div></div>
I don't think you are wrong, but there is a chance you could be. It's not just power, these are some other guys that really only played the second half of last season (or less)- Krebs, tuch, Quinn, peterka, lybushkin, Samuelsson, and comrie. We barely had ahl goaltending when Anderson was hurt too. Plus olofsson played hurt and did absolutely nothing until his injury healed, then he finished the season with 20.
The reasons you could be right- our division is a buzz saw, comrie/anderson/upl is still probably in the bottom 1/4 of the league in goal, we are going to be relying on a lot of kids (talented sure, but still kids). Also, our coach is very well liked by the players and fans, he has the players playing loose and producing offense, defense is still a work in progress, and there's always questions if you get crushed until the are out of it, then guys start performing when the pressure is off.
Should be a fun season regardless, the Sabres haven't added as much as Ottawa, but they have added a lot. Maybe savoie gets his 10 games too

I completely agree that playoffs is a bridge too far.
I added some additional information projecting last year's production to 82 games.
Reducing the GA by 47 appears to be within reach, while scoring an additional 56 may be a stretch, adding 36 goals may be more reasonable.
Let me add, with a healthy team, over the last 28 games the Sabres were 16-9-3 for 35 or 103 projected over 82 games.
Adding Comrie, Lyubushkin, Quinn, Holl, Foegele (my trades) and Power ( for a full season) maybe the Sabres can grab the brass ring and make the playoffs.

Both Comrie and Husso had flash in the pan seasons
Seems like cope-ium
Speaking of Cope-ium: Maatta
3rd pair dman that Detroit fans are trying to hype themselves up about, yeah he'll really stabilize that D along with (-30) over the last 2 years Chiarot
Detroit beat Aaron Dell, an ECHL goalie, and Tokarski an AHL goalie, and had to go to OT 3 times to do it

Sabres will finish above Detroit and Ottawa, which means they'll be a contender for a wild card spot.
Kane hasnt had an issue in Buffalo in over 12 years. The future is now

Let him rant and ignore him, you will never get him to understand your POV.
But to your point above Krebs may be a better passer but few of the Sabres can score goals better than Jeff as we do not know how well Jack will do in the NHL
Just keep the Jeff-Tage-Alex line together, I would imagine Victor with Nathan and Patrick would excel as well.
But this is your team and you can line them up as you wish.
