While for fans I think it's an easy no for Zegras, I think the management views him differently. Though I agree that this trade would not happen, I don't think the idea that they wouldn't even take this for Zegras is just not true. Zegras is a very talented and flashy player and he is heavily overrated due to his highlight factor. The ducks already have McTavish and Carlsson down the middle who are both better players long term than Zegras and are more valuable to the core. Additionally Zegras does not fit the greatest in Verbeek's style of play. Likely seattle pick will be around top 10 so it is still fairly high in deeper draft class 1-16. If Verbeek was offered pick 10, 42, 60 and young defenseman who has been progressing well for Zegras I think he would most likely take that package.

Take the money from Teuvo and give it to a proper RD. Of course, you also have to overcome the problem of convincing said RD (and Guentzel), but it'd be a more effective road forward to have another RD to support Minty & Zellweger while sheltering Luneau somewhat.

NjD- Van - Tor Trade deadline
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Wz92</b></div><div>yea not sure i agree. i love tanev and have followed his game for awhile but the leafs still have a shallow pool of prospects and an even shallower pool of picks. the leafs cant afford to pay that for a rental. even if he stays hes pretty weathered, not sure if thats where his value is</div></div>
I respect your point of view, of course, and I may be speaking with a bit of bias as a Flames fan who has watched him over the last few years, but I don't believe I'm exaggerating when I say his effect in the playoffs cannot be overstated. He would be THE guy on the Leafs blueline taking pucks to the face, spitting out teeth while blocking his third shot in a row on that shift, while also having the ability to move the puck out of his own end well. His character alone could have been a major factor in putting the currently hot Leafs over the top (if their goalies can come through for them).
From what I've heard and read, there is quite a drop-off after pick 15-ish or so in this draft, and essentially, the picks from around 25-70, according to one guy anyway, with obvious "better" guys in that range, all kind of fit into a "grouping" in the draft, of similarly rated players. For Toronto to not want to give up what they expect to be 32nd overall for Tanev, but give up a 3rd and a 6th for Lyubushkin.... you said yourself the Leafs can't afford to give up too many picks (paraphrasing), but Treliving's exact plan is to try and offer "multiple" lower picks for players in lieu of one higher pick. Overall, that ought to diminish the Leafs' pool..
But, my ultimate point, you can't put a price on character (you can, but humor me), and Tanev would have been exactly the kind of character guy that dressing room needs for a playoff run, on and off the ice.

Meh I disagree. Grushnikov is a project able player type to be a bottom pair tough PK dman. Klimovich is still getting healthy scratched at times and struggling with the technical side of the game and has 4 pts in 20+ games in his third season in the AHL. I don't think he adds any value other than here is a body you can have.

Would love Zuccarello on the Canes, but I don't think Drury would be the player they moved. They are very thin down the middle, and Zuccarello plays on the wing. Not even sure who would be Carolina's 4C if that trade happened.

5 left shot d. And that jokiharju contract is pretty awful. Let's go another way on d. Roy or demelo make more sense than zadorov, better yet, sign Roy and demelo, or swing a trade for somebody better. We've got all these supposed high end assets, if we can't swap them for a physical second pair right shot d, then are they really worth all that much? Don't have to go crazy and try to get a guy that's gonna want to play pp, just get a defensive guy. At some point, that offense is gonna cost more, and power and dahlin can do that stuff.

I'd probably do it if it was a rental. I don't even care about the fourth because we have too many picks to use them all. The two Finns would be good to add to the system. They should both be NHL players eventually and can help Tucson. Good motor players, too.
But retaining for two years, and the fact he's a cost-effective player at full rate who wants to be in AZ, it just doesn't seem like enough reason to move him.

Bos - LA TDL
The big question is, is Ullmark playing better than Talbot or Rittich?
Talbot stat: 16-13-5 GAA 2.53 and a SV% of .913 with a 1M cap hit.
Rittich stats: 8-3-3 2.24 GAA and a SV% of .918 with a 875K cap hit
Ullmark stats: 16-6-5 2.72 GAA and a SV% of .914 with a cap hit of 5M
Is Ullmark an improvement in net over Talbot and Rittich? Yes, but not a big enough improvement in the eyes of the Kings to justify a giving up a 1st a healthy Turcotte and Arvidsson.

You would honestly need to take out every single piece in that Zegras deal and try again. More like OTT ‘24 1st and Greig, with a little something going back to offset some value. Really don’t see why OTT would be trying to trade for another young C though
