couple trade ideas

no prospect i worth a top 10 pick because VERY few p[layers in the NHL are themselves worth a top 10 pick.</div></div>
insane take

Karlsson to OTT

The pick is top 10 protected so if we finish in the bottom 10 it is our decision not SJs if we keep this year's and give them next year's instead, at least that's how I understand it. I imagine we would do that bc it's a guaranteed Top 10 pick (bird in hand philosophy and also whoever we draft would be, assuming all things go well, ready earlier than a 1st round pick in 2025) although of course it's a very real possibility we are worse next year so it's definitely a decision that needs to be contemplated on. I can't imagine if we do finish bottom 10 we don't give them the 25th 1st instead but who knows but as far as I know if we finish bottom 10 it's our decision not SJs...

I doubt SJ moves any of their firsts for the next few seasons at least. Certainly not for what is going to be a worse pick this year versus a lottery pick next year
Edit: realized I misread the picks, disregard my comment

Guentzel to Carolina
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Imagine874859</b></div><div>They want "prospects" and that's plural depending on the roster player. Carolina adds another prospect or replaces him with Morrow. And not just a random prospect, a solid one.</div></div>
I don't think this is the consensus among Canes fans, but I'm higher on Blake than Morrow. But I get your point. Canes have plenty of prospects they'd be willing to add I'm sure. Perron, Heimosalmi, Koivunen, etc.

Very light return if Guentzel is extended. Is this extension happening in the trade, or later?

I doubt Catton or Lindstrom will be on the board when the penguins pick.
The other guy not listed here is Andrew Basha.
If Iggy isn't on the board than Basha is probably next man up.

Do you ever read Will Scouch’s stuff? His rankings can a little different…or a lot different…but he does get deep into weeds on these guys from analytics perspective. He is not high on Parekh or Yakemchuk at all.

Sleeping on Yakemchuk. Numbers aren't as gaudy as parekhs, but I like his all around game better and still has crazy offense then in a 6'3 frame? that's a bonus... Or sens can draft him before the pens haha

Trying to compete without our first
Idk why they'd move sharangovich but it's probably a fair offer. He's young and cheap Calgary needs that too. I'm sure they'd like guentzel but I can't see them much ving a good rfa like lundell for a ufa even if lundell growth has seemed to have stalled a bit.

If iggy is on the board that is the pick.
There is no way they should pick a defenseman.
They need a forward who can make the jump within a year.

Guentzel to Vegas
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Dodominator</b></div><div>Do you have an idea who could be interested in Guentzel then? I dont really see where the interested contenders could sign him long term for more than 8 mil.
Maybe Seattle if they want to make a move for a star player after 3 more quiet years. Or detroit, but they already have Raymond, Seider Kane as free agents.</div></div>
Just today Pagnotta said Vegas was interested in both Smith and Guentzel. Vegas moves players like cards at the blackjack table so they could definitely move someone and re-sign Guentzel if they really loved him. Dallas with Seguin on LTIR is a potential though they probably want defense more. Most players would re-sign there. EDM, but unless someone take Campbell, I can't see how they extend him. Vancouver, but again, no chance at re-signing him without taking someone back.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Dodominator</b></div><div>I am not to much into what the Penguins want to do, but with their recent form and being the first team in the hunt for the last wildcard/the 3rd metro spot (P%) I wasn´t sure how commited they are to selling and that they might only be interested in a trade if it helps them right now. Crosby and Malkin still seem to be good enough for the "just get in and see what happens" mindset in the playoffs.
If they just want to sell for as many futures as possible, you´re probably right, you could ask for more for a (retained) Guentzel!</div></div>
Dubas sounds like he is listening to anyone except the core four. Guessing he wants to retain 50% on Guentzel this year and get a sign and trade package for him much like Meier got. He explicitly said he wants to get younger around the core and while Guentzel is very good, he is approaching 30 soon.

Oh okay, thats a way sooner return than what I last heard. This will definitely raise the asking price.

I would expect Dubas to retain 50% and get better offers. No reason for him to try and trade Guentzel without retention. Also, why are you adding roster players for a contender? PIT isn't in a playoff spot hence why they are selling in the first place.

Maybe when pigs fly. I can’t stress enough that even trading for Pettersson on his own, who already has great value in his own right, would require a solid overpay. PIT has 0 reason to trade him and he is a very key piece to our roster.

Pens deadline sell off AND offseason
I actually think this is extremely similar to what will happen in terms of the approach. It sounds to me like we are going to be pretty all in with selling at this deadline, try and get maybe 2-3 players like Borque if we can, and then fully rebuild in like 2 years. I don't think we will be a contender next year though. I think it is more like the first stages of a rebuild and maybe hope something clicks and we go on a run, but not expecting that. It sounds to me though like the beginning stages of a rebuild, but we are taking it slower just in case something happens showing we can still contend.
Also I will add that these contracts are pretty reasonable. I think there's 0 chance a big name FA would sign a long term deal here and I don't think it would be smart for us either. Someone like Bertuzzi though for like 2 years makes sense.
