Ah, the ol’ “four players for five players” trade. An NHL Classic.
Gonna cost a lot more to move Campbell’s contract.

Every team in the league would move all of those guys besides Hughes in a heartbeat to get Werenski at 50% for 4.5 years if it was only going to cost them a late 1st. There is no chance Vancouver would pass lol.

eils incredible trade from the other pov
This might be unpopular, but this trade makes absolutely no one happy, not even Columbus. Retaining $4.5M for two more years is a bad idea, and trading your A-wearing top-pair D-man who's playing well, for a rental winger who likely won't stay, two late 1sts, 3 roster guys (one of whom we've already traded <em>for</em> <strong>AND </strong> <em>away</em>), and a single top prospect is absurd.
Should they take the deal if presented? Yes, absolutely, it's heavily in CBJ's favor. But no one likes it, and it's totally unrealistic to begin.

Imagine Jarmo Fired
That soup contract is a boat anchor wraped around your neck. The cost to move that thing is going to be steep. As it should be. EDM hasn't moved soup yet because everyone they call to move it tells them what they want and Holland hasn't been willing to pay it yet.

Rumors and Speculation
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jazzykiwi</b></div><div>The Lindholm trade only works if he's willing to resign in Col. Something he may not be willing to do. They've always had trouble luring FAs and are perpetually bad</div></div>
Right, I suspect that he would if the price is right. It's mostly about money for these guys. Not always and not exclusively, but at the end of the day, money talks.
The bit about not signing FAs is not really true. Since Jarmo arrived they signed Nathan Horton who was a big fish at the time, Brandon Saad extended after a trade from CHI, Gus Nyquist, and Johnny Gaudreau among some others. However, they've made it clear that their goal was to try to build through the draft the "right way."
They had a good run of success with the Foligno-led Jackets, but rightly blew that up before they were all too old when it was clear they didn't have enough to get over the hump.
Maybe if Panarin stayed they would've kept that corps together and made a deeper push, but they made the right call and are now loaded with dynamic, young talent and have a decent group of vets as well to lead them. The roster isn't finished though. The kids still need time to mature and Jarmo still has to find another top center. Obviously Gaudreau and Laine have to get going too, but they are too good of players to stay stuck in a slump for too long. Gaudreau has already started playing much better in recent weeks. Now Laine needs to get going.

Campbell
If Columbus is taking Campbell, you have to take Elvis back. This is fine compensation for taking Campbell, but the roster math for Columbus doesn't work having two underperforming 5+ million dollar goalies both signed for 4 more years.
There is also no point to moving Laine at the nadir of his value for Columbus.

Having no young assets isn’t Columbus’s problem. They literally have too many players in the AHL currently, a top-five NCAA scoring forward at Michigan, Dumais and Mateychuk in juniors, and a goalie prospect making waves in the KHL. A team can’t just trade off veterans—especially their captain—forever for more and more assets. That’s how you end up the Sabres of the last decade.

Short and long term
Is Spencer Knight, struggling in the AHL, an upgrade over Tarasov, who returns from IR very soon and would require waivers? I don't know that he is. Add in removing one of the only veterans on the youngest team in the league? I don't think either team considers the Florida deal.
I'm not opposed to the Hertl deal. I'd prefer Lindholm for the same cost, but I would be fine with this especially since Hertl's already under contract. The top ten protection on the pick is key.

Z to IR Jiricek Up
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Indy</b></div><div>We tried that last year too...it didn't work but yeah Jiricek just made things much for difficult for the FO. Talked about looking a gift horse in the mouth...</div></div>
And here I am continuously telling Vancouver fans not to pair Peeke with Hughes. We already know he's a terrible partner for an offensively-minded 1LHD. He's not going to be magically better with one who's half a foot shorter. He's a third pair RD, and that's fine. We just already have Eric Gudbranson for that role, and Gudbranson wears a letter.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Prime_Jimbo</b></div><div>Haha, any reasons he may be on the pine?</div></div>
Amongst the fanbase, we think he probably took his foot off the gas in camp and preseason since his spot was essentially guaranteed, and then some more fringey guys and Fantilli came in 110%. He was virtually invisible. New coach Vincent's making an example. I still think he probably plays tomorrow, though. Two practices in green jerseys is probably warning enough not to get complacent. He also might have tweaked something, who knows.

Questions for CBJ fans
1) Has Jiricek shown enough to make this roster? I'd assume in order to do that he'd need to be a significantly better option than Gudbranson, Peeke, Blankenburg or Bean for the team to consider it. And if he does earn a spot, who gets shuffled out from the blue line?
He's shown enough, but the second point outweighs it for now. One or both of Peeke and Boqvist are most likely to move because RD have value and they're both serviceable NHLers in their own ways. Gudbranson is important to the team off the ice (plus his contract is immovable) and Blanks is waiver eligible, and Bean is a total unknown because he's missed nearly a full calendar year due to injury. Once the logjam clears a bit, Jiricek will be in Columbus.
2) Will the Laine-at-C experiment stick? I think it would be huge for this roster if it works.
<a href="https://twitter.com/JacketsInsider/status/1709911757106405833?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1709911757106405833%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" target="_blank">He's looked fantastic so far</a>, for what it's worth in preseason. Last night was against what is basically Buffalo's NHL roster (full defense, only missing Tage and Skinner up front, UPL in net)
3) Does Kent Johnson look like he could take the next step this season?
Yes.
