Hurricanes - Eichel Redo Still 3x Staal
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Caniac2000</b></div><div>Jack was on pace for 70 points over 82 games. Necas was on pace for 64. Eichel has injury issues now, it's known he wants out. Necas is expansion exempt, and far younger. There's no leg to stand on for the Sabres to demand Necas.</div></div>
Not to mention, this trade sends minimum cap the other direction, giving Buffalo an additional ~$8m in a flat cap year (which is probably worth a 1st & 2nd).

Hall Trade - Finding Cap Space to Resign him
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>pharrow</b></div><div>Why would Hall want to sign long term to an aging team that is closing out it's window?
Next year Crosby is 33 Malkin is 34. He might get 2 years out of that deal where he has a chance to win a cup.
If he wants an 8 year deal, he's going to want to be on a team where he gets HIS window.
I see him heading to a place like Colorado in the offseason personally. It doesn't make much sense for him to sign with the penguins.</div></div>
This sets the Penguins/Hall up with a very good chance to make a strong play for the cup over the next 3 years --- assuming Jarry pans out and does not fall off a cliff

You're right, it was a dumb trade

PIT-TOR Trade

Yes, but do you like the thought of a Guentzel-Crosby-Kapanen line better?

PIT-TOR Trade
TOR gets some depth that they need with a solid - #2 Goalie (DeSmith), an affordable 6/7 defenseman (Riikola), and a solid 3rd/4th line winger/center (Simon). Not to mention all three players have good/controllable contracts (<=$1.25m) moving forward.
PIT gets what they need with a speedy young RW on a good contract that they can play with Crosby & Guentzel and some depth that they can call up and down from WBS (experienced vet as a #3 goalie and a gritty 4th line winger in Wilson - who played 50 games in PIT last year).
To clear up cap next year PIT is going to have to dump Bjugstad and play McCann as the #3, which makes a lot of sense to do anyways. Not to mention, Schultz & Galchenyuk are probably on their way out anyways. These three contracts will clear up $14.5m.

PIT-OTT Trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>biglite351</b></div><div>The only thing worse than Ottawa's forward roster situation next year is the defense roster situation. Plus, both with it being Ottawa... and with their ownership, a lot of FA players will not opt to go there is given offers from any other team. Therefore, Ottawa is either going to overpay $ to lower end FAs to get them to sign, or they are going to have to trade for players already under contract who do not have the option of saying no. It's not going to be a pretty summer for Ottawa fans and moves that are made (signings/trades) to bring in NHL players are not going to "make sense" from the Ottawa fan point of view.</div></div>
There is a good chance that the UFA's that they have (Lindberg, Gibbons, Nilsson) won't even resign with them.

Ottawa Rebuild in Full Effect

Fair, I guess I feel KK is worth at least a 1st (he is worth a 1st & 3rd at @ a $4.06m salary) with the offer sheet rules.

Why wouldn't the Senators agree to take on salary for picks vs signing a minor leaguer to a $7m/1Y contract?

PIT-OTT Trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JPM</b></div><div>OTT declines the owner doesn’t want to spend money on Stone, Duchene, and Karlsson , so why would they spend that much money on 3 mediocre defensemen , a goalie prospect and a bottom 6’er?</div></div>
Because they have to hit the cap floor (approx. $60m) and decent players, demanding $3m+ salaries, are not going to sign with them. They are going to have to take some salary dumps and this is just an attempt at one. They are probably going to end up taking dumps for picks, which makes sense with where the organization stands today. I also thew their dysfunctional owner a bone and added MacArthur's salary to PIT's LITR.
This trade adds a bit of speed to the Penguins for 2019-20 and cleans up their roster situation a lot. Ottawa gets 5 NHLer's for 1 for $3-4m more in salary. It also gives OTT some stop gap defensive depth with really only taking on 1.5 bad contracts (Jack Johnson & 1/2 Gud's which is only has 2 years left on it).
