If we traded for Batherson can we afford him
Ottawa's willingness (and ability) to trade Batherson is tied to the world Juniors assault case. If he's involved he's gonna be unmoveable and if he's not, his contract is WAY too valuable to move.

Signing Monahan short term - 2023 season
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Fran615</b></div><div>The Flames gave a 1st rounder to the Habs to get it out of their hands. Some folks on here claim he is done, Re: injuries.
Unless you have a crystal ball, no one knows for sure how he'll fare this season.
Same for me. I have no clue (humility).
If you 100% know the future, let me know how he did this upcoming season.
I was just proposing this contract as a 2-year "let's see how injury is going" type scenario.
But your entitlement let's me see your mental age.
And if my contract suggestion makes you go 'lmao', you have the most boring life imaginable.
So... will Monahan have a bad, medium, or great season? You seem to know!
Answer this instead of mocking like a 12-year old woke idiot.</div></div>
If Monahan bounce back, he isn’t getting anything above 5M
And MTL are already set in the middle with Suzuki Dach Dvorak & Evans. MTL probably end up with a top 6-7 pick, which means they probably draft the best player available, Bedard C Fantilli C Michkov W Dvorsky C Carlsson C Yager C Benson W Ritchie C. Lots of center. MTL have already too many wingers, I just can’t see Dadonov Monahan Drouin Byron coming back next year

I was thinking the exact same thing.
Stamkos said a very similar thing about Toronto where did he sign?
With that said JBB would have to seriously consider it if this were to be offered and I'm a big Ross Colton fan.

My opinion on the locks for next season
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ItWasIn</b></div><div>Fair. It's so tough to predict who will be a playoff team these days. Seems like every season now there's three or four new playoff teams every year.</div></div>
Exactly. I think the flames are just as good, if not better than last year. It is difficult that’s why I genuinely believe there are only 12 locks at the moment. The most notable snubs are Anaheim for missing and Toronto for making. Anaheim could make the playoffs with improvement from the young core as a whole and gibson finding his grove or dostal coming up and being that guy. Toronto could miss because of the goaltending and/or a long term injury to a top 5 player on that team. If Matthew’s or marner is injured for 40 games. that’s automatically like 10 less points as a team. If I recall correctly both players have WARs over 5 which is nuts.

Canes said F the Russian factor
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ItWasIn</b></div><div>Calgary hasn't drafted many Russians historically either. That has changed recently though.
I also think there was a time where ANA rarely did as well.</div></div>
The flames first Russian was in 1983. They drafted Russians relatively normally from 1983-2002 and then had an 16 year gap from 2002 to 2018 where they drafted only one Russian and since have been drafting them pretty normally since.
Anaheim on the other hand is interesting because in their first 8 years as a team, they drafted 14 Russians. Then from 2002-2019 they drafted one Russian and in the past 3 years they have taken three.
This is an interesting rabbit hole tbh, I’m going to look down it some more.

Miller Asking Price
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ItWasIn</b></div><div>I could see Vancouver being a playoff team, either as a top 3 Pacific team, or wildcard. There's good pieces there.
The issue is that they're in the same position Calgary was last year. They've got two prominent players up for contracts, Miller and Horvat. It's a fine line the organization has to walk. Canadian owners love playoff revenue, but it may mean you walk two key players to UFA.
I should also say, I believe Horvat will be extended, but the cliche, it's not done until it's done.</div></div>
They have some nice pieces but they also got some notable holes and when we look at VGK, CGY, and EDM they are arguably better. Still see them as a potential WC team so lets see
To me agreed I feel Horvat will most likely be priority to extend leaving Miller a big ? which was why I was shocked they didnt trade him last TDL as unless they were massively overvaluing him there had to have been some really good offers

Huberdeau
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ItWasIn</b></div><div>It's a year later, but you have to keep in mind you're trying to sell someone on Alberta winters. Not exactly easy when you're dealing with a player coming from Florida. It was always going to be an overpay and that's ok. Would rather find ways to build around him than find another star, not easy to do.</div></div>
Yeah, I didn't realize that it was an actual signing. It makes sense that they would have to pay that now without him actually playing any games. The cap will go up 1m at least anyways next year, so worth securing him now than to save a few gp. I do think that he would have wanted at least 10mx8 from them anyways which was what was supposedly how much FLR would have had to pay him although talks were preliminary. So, the extra 500k is for the tax difference, I think.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ItWasIn</b></div><div>They've got options.
I think they're gonna extend Weegar. It just makes too much sense. The Flames RHD depth is very thin
Obviously, everyone thinks Huberdeau is unlikely to be extended, but we'll see. The Flames are going to throw 80-88 mill at him, that might be tough to turn down.
The thought of flipping them at the deadline is great. I just don't see it being realistic. The Flames are going to continue to add this offseason. The Pacific is the weakest division in the league. The Flames should be a playoff team, which makes trading them really tough to do. But of course if things aren't going well then you do it without hesitation.</div></div>
Sounds good. NYR would love Elias Lindholm if that's the case. Hold him for us will ya?:tearsofjoy

Cap dump and big 2023 draft
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ItWasIn</b></div><div>I've looked at ANA as a fit for Lucic for a while. He's a fine bottom 6 player, he's just overpaid.
CGY has to move some D. I just think they'd like to turn Kylington into a top 9 forward. If they have to add futures to move Lucic, then they will.</div></div>
Yeah, I have seen several Calgary AGM's that move Lucic out with a second. I think that's too steep since he is owed less real money, and that will be of interest to Anaheim. But I didn't feel like making only "cap dump for a pic" trades made for a very exciting post. Grant is highly serviceable and on a much cheaper contract, and has similar physicals to Lucic though he hits a bit less, he blocks more shots, and puts up more points. I thought a diet Lucic and a high 4th would help sweeten the deal.
