Sandin isn't eligible for arbitration. He has only completed 3 pro years and needs 4. In the past, players that had only completed 3 years weren't considered eligible for offer sheets. I can't find any information anywhere if that still exists (ie. Group 2 & 4 RFA's are eligible for offersheets, Group 1 & 10.2c are not)....

Miles Wood's QO is $3.5m. The only way you would get him for less than that is if his arbitration number comes in north of $4m and NJ buys him out in the second window. Then you wouldn't be trading Holl for him...

to save the 1 million just buying mrazek out would get you
i can understand how 1 might think holl is bad with how often leafs fans complain about him
but this trade is deceptively bad for the leafs
conor garland has only been at best 20% better than kerfoot over the last 2 seasons
and i wouldnt trade a 1st and 2 prospects to get kerfoot and dump 1 million in cap</div></div>
Teams don;t generally retain money on contracts that have more than 1 year remaining. Garland has 4 at least. Kerfoot & Robertson for Garland & a late pick. If you want Holl, the pick is going to move up in the draft. IF you take Mrazek, the pick can move back down in the draft. Print it.

Rielly Smith is an interesting idea, just not at that kind of $$. Could he fit on the LW with Tavares? I also think Paul Stasny at $800k-1m would be interesting for the bottom 6 if he truly is looking to go somewhere he can add value and have a chance to win.

Of course, half of your fellow Toronto fans don't think he's worth Mrazek and a third.
Gibson fits our window perfectly. When we're ready to move from pretender to contender in Year 3 of his contract, he should be an effective goalie who could take us a couple of rounds into the playoffs.</div></div>
Whaaaa, Bracco, Nielson and a 2nd doesn't get it done? :) Thanks for the input. Wish more of these threads were sharing ideas vs ****ting on them.

A player has to sign an offer sheet, and Dubas can & probably does match in this what if scenario. This is essentially his qualifying offer and he's not arbitration eligible.
Probably 10 defensemen before Lilypad that are more susceptible to offer sheets, Leaves fan. Because they happen all the time...

Nylander is the main piece that would go to VAN, as per both suggestions. He would/could be a fit for the Canucks.. Holl or Kerfoot would be to balance the cap hits, as both teams likely can't take on more money either way. Kerfoot might be more of a need than Holl, but just spit-balling what dollar for dollar could look like.

I have been looking at the fit/money for Nylander to VAN. Could a Nylander/Holl for JT/Garland work for VAN? Or a Nylander/Kerfoot for JT/Garland? Maybe a bit of retention on JT, but both trades are almost a wash dollar wise.

I don't see VAN retaining salary on a Miller trade because he has a year left. It looks like a pretty reach deal with Niemela in, too. (Maybe the Holl for Schenn could be a thing, tho) That being said, Clutterbuck could come with 50% retention that covers the 1.75m (or in the vicinity).

deadline deal
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ottawasean</b></div><div>With Miller they have $11M next year to sign Campbell, 2-3 D, and 4 bottom 6 forwards. Can't see Campbell getting below $5M per year. Can always move contracts in the off season but that means selling low. Only reason in my mind to make that deal is Dubas has been told win this year or you are out.</div></div>
Dubas has to be feeling the pressure for sure, but he needs to sustainably move the franchise forward even if it isn;t a win or else proposition. But Miller's contract is essentially Kerfoot and Holl next year (with both having same term as JT, expiring after next year). So, if there's a price of a 1st and Dermott or Holl (hearing VAN looking for D) or prospect, I think he has to do it. But can't be Lilypad as he is a part of the cap solution for the near future. And he get get out from Kerf and Holl easily in the off season. Last point, Jack has played into a more Mrazek style contract, maybe in the $4-4.5 m range over 3-4 years.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ottawasean</b></div><div>What does Miller bring that Toronto needs. They have a very strong offence - but need defence. Toronto needs to stop looking for "shiny things". The D additions would do a lot more than another scoring winger.
Mrazek move seems more likely - at TDL or after - to free up cap for Campbell</div></div>
Miller brings depth scoring, and a guy that can get to the dirty areas to score. And he is versatile if JT went down again. He is exactly what they need. A Top 6 F along with a Top 4 D.

FYI. Cap will likely be flat considering arena attendances and restrictions in the league this year. 82.5 is optimistic
IDk how bonuses work when your team is on LTIR but Islanders could have a bonus carry over of $1,685,000 (This year is $1.3M). So that isnt even factored in.
So i say you are $2M over the cap next year</div></div>
Bettman confirmed in December that cap is going up to $82.5m next year...

Probably need to add the Jones brothers for Leafs even to consider it. Dach bros, Jones bros and Alex for Marner, Kerfoot, Dermott and a 2nd.
