I mean something like Podz and a kid pick may get it done but I’m honestly not sure because he was so impressive in just his rookie year that I have no clue what value he has with the Flyers. Torts could tell Danny u better get me something huge if I have to part with him. Not a huge fan of Hog would rather have Podz or Hog and probably a 1st

Horvat playing on Jack's wing while taking his faceoffs has logic to it.
But Fitz won't pay the cost it'll take the get Horvat as a rental, nor will he sign him for the 7-8m he'll be looking for as an extension IMO.

Ironically I had both of them in separate trades for Miller but changed and took the prospect. Thanks for the feedback.

Realistic Miller Returns
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ItsBlowTime</b></div><div>While I agree much of Canucks Capfriedly overvalues him (ie. He's not worth Schneider, Laf, and a 1st), I think the Miller return will exceed Fiala for the following reasons:
1: He can switch seamlessly between wing and center and excels at either position.
2: He plays 5v5, PP, and PK, a valuable skillset in the league
3: His current caphit gives teams a year of breathing room to try to resign him instead of being forced to take on a larger caphit immediately (or hell, maybe they trade him at the deadline lol)
I think a trio of assets is a near guarantee for him, but what it will look like depends on who/what comes back. A 1st rd pick is an absolute, but the two other pieces, prospect and roster player will vary based on what the focal point is. Either a top end, grade A prospect and a mid-level young-ish roster player, or a budding star roster player (think Necas or Jarvis for example) and then a b-level prospect that might be a few years away.</div></div>
I agree 100% on all of those points. The problem for Vancouver is that the NHL is not like the NBA or European soccer where a more valuable player will get you a more valuable return. Because NHL GMs are so risk averse and hugely overvalue future assets, the return on literally anyone is pretty much capped at a 1st + top prospect. Eichel, who was 23, locked in long term, and was at worst a top 15 center in the league at the time he got moved only returned a 1st, Peyton Krebs, and Tuch. There is a pretty hard cap on what guys return in the NHL, and Fiala hit it. I really don't think Miller will be the guy to finally break through that ceiling.

At most, they're even. I kinda think Woo is a little above Kessel, but it's the type of player I'd want to swap. Plus, I just like Woo. I think he's going to be a reliable guy to take over for Bortuzzo, if not more down the line.

If nhl trades happened like nba trades
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ItsBlowTime</b></div><div>I agree to a point, the NBA takes it to the extreme, but I was more referencing the players like Joe Thornton and Patrick Marleau who waited far too long and closed their window themselves. Stars sign 8 year contracts at the age of 29 regardless of what the trajectory of their team is and then end up going to FA at age 37, signing a league minimum with whatever team will take them, and retiring 2 years later. I would have rather seen Thornton, Marleau, Iginla.. etc switch teams at age 30-32 when they have 3 or so real good years left and actually make an impact with their new team.</div></div>
I agree with that some players do wait too long to leave their team even though they can leave around 27. Thornton, Marleau, and Iginla were all on teams that were in contention when they were there.
You are right it would've been nice to see them win a cup.

If nhl trades happened like nba trades
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ItsBlowTime</b></div><div>I'm not saying loyalty is a bad thing, but I'm all in favor of star NHL players chasing a cup BEFORE they hit 35+. I agree with everyone above that sometimes NBA trade values baffle me, but more top-end players moving around the game would be a good thing!
Great work on this!</div></div>
I think its a little bit of a two way street. Yes, the players are the ones signing long term contracts in bad situations (ex : Eichel) but the GMs are also very unwilling to make risky trades. Guys like Marner, Nylander, or Landeskog before signing his big contract get traded to switch around the chemistry of the team, see if theres another star player who fits the system a little better. It would be absolute chaos. I hope introducing a soft cap at some point in the future would help bring this about. I think the uncertaint rigidity of the cap definitely stops this a little bit, as people are unwilling to trade for big cap hits a lot more. We've seen a little bit of constant big game hunting from Vegas, hopefully other teams will start to follow suit.
I think one part that definitely makes it harder is our development system. The NBA draft is 2 rounds and the only developmental league that they can have guys playing in is the G league, whereas the NHL has a much larger prospect pool and top prospects mean a lot more (also due to salary cap and the value of ELCs). A lot to think about for sure

Bennings Biggest Mistake
The OEL and Garland trade will definitely set this new regime back quite a bit. There's the OEL contract, giving up the 2nd in a deep draft when the prospect cupboards are bare, and then of course giving up the 1st that turned into Dylan Guenther who looks like he could become a star.
Didn't look like a good move then, doesn't look any better now.

All In Version 4
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ItsBlowTime</b></div><div>Kakko and Laf are definitely off the table if I'm the Rangers. One of the reasons Canucks fans are locking onto Schneider is the Rangers depth on the right side. Fox and Trouba have the top 4 locked up so there isn't exactly a pathway for him. Also, hin and Hughes would be a very formidable pairing that we haven't seen in Vancouver since Edler/Bieksa in over 10 years. Personally, if there was no retention I'd do Miller for Schneider and a 2nd. I think that's how desperate the Canucks are for legitimate RD potential and depth.
That rumor comes from the Canucks hiring his former agent Emilie Castonguay as assistant GM. It was more used as clickbait for articles, there was no actual evidence behind it.</div></div>
I forgot that the canucks hired his agent. Thanks for that.

All In Version 4
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ItsBlowTime</b></div><div>So based on your explanation if Canucks don't retain or take Nemeth then Miller is only worth Gauthier, Kravtsov, 1st, 4th?? That's a return that prioritizes quantity over quality. It's void of anything remotely impactful.
The first rd pick is a given in any Miller trade, I think we can all agree on that, but with the addition of Miller it's very likely that pick is 28-32, which doesn't hold the value that most 1st's do. I see the base of this trade panning out in 2 ways if the 1st is a given:
Miller 50% retained = Schneider
Miller No retention = Lundkvist
Then the addition of a player like Barron, or Chytl (Not sure who've valued more in that organization)</div></div>
I think quantity is a bit of an undersell. Kravstov is a highly touted prospect despite him not being in the NHL at the moment. A first is a given. The Nemeth and retention part is tricky if it required a 2nd to be added I’m all for it. I just don’t see the Rangers moving on from Schneider Kakko or Laf.
Barron could probably be added despite my fondness for his play.
I still think this is a workable deal, and with tinkering could be beneficial to both parties.
