best roster move
I agree...creating a player like John Tavares is probably the "best roster move" any NHL team could make this off season.

Ovie...
I'm not a fan....just looking at teams that would be able to pull off an Ovie deal and Carolina stands out because of how much cap space they have.
As for wanting more...i'm sure washington would but as we've seen in deals for big money players part of the return is getting cap space back in return. I'm not sure they could do much better than 1st/2nd/3rd and D prospect that was 13th overall just last year.

essentially all you are trading CG & JV for is Rantanen and a 3rd.</div></div>
Don't forget all the terrible players and burdensome cap hits they come with!

PHI is very much in need of a LW. Their top scoring LW when looking up NHL.com stats had 11 pts. On top of that, they have (according to Pierre McGuire... for what that's worth) a very deep pool of prospects. If ever a team was in position to let go of a top 2 pick to make their team good now, it's PHI.</div></div>

I'm not sure but 3yr deal for Ghost wouldn't it make him UFA at the end of it? If so i think they go 2 yr bridge like Trouba (2x3m) or longer term like 5x4.5 would be more reasonable.
Also if #2 pick is Patrick i can see him making the team out of camp because going back to JR would be a waste for him, Hischer however would likely start in the AHL and get the call up half way through the season.

Provorov is an absolute stud dman but Philly fans need to realize that<strong> Trouba is as valuable as Provorov </strong>is. There is l<strong>iterally nothing that can be said to prove otherwise that isn't opinion or belief.</strong></div></div>
Nah, you're wrong....Provorov is 3 years younger and as we all know contract situation matters.
Trouba has already signed a bridge deal and will need to get paid next deal. Provorov has 2 years of ELC left and like 4 or 5 yrs until he's eligible for arbitration.
This favors Provorov dramatically.</div></div>

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>F50marco</b></div><div>Dreaming of Trouba? Then what are you waiting for? Trade something you value as much as the Jets value Trouba then....
Guys its pretty simple. Its either:
Provorov
Or
1st round picks and prospects galore (Sanheim, Konecny, 1st round pick, etc)
Or
Simmonds+
Etc
I know its human nature to low ball but trading the players who the consensus say are the "tradeable assets" is not going to land the stud player. Trouba is a good player, that's why you want him so badly. That's the same reason Winnipeg will want a kings ransom for him in trade.
If you really valued Ghost and Laughton so much, they wouldn't be in nearly every Philly fans AGM in trades.</div></div>
Calder runner up, promising 1st rd forward and a 3rd round pick isn't chop liver.
It wouldn't be enough to get a really good player who was happy where he was...but it's pretty good for someone who doesn't want to be there.

Seems Jets fans are looking for a kings ransom...shocking. lol.
All i'll say is if he's happy playing in Winnipeg, and they are willing to pay him...then you guys have a point. If he signed a 2yr deal with a behind the scenes deal that he'd be traded before the deal ended, then Chevy isn't dealing from a position of power.
If the first scenario is true then Myers will have to be traded, coming off injury he'll have to be moved on the cheap.
If the second scenario is true then Trouba will get you more...but i doubt the ransom you are looking for.

I could see Shultz going for less...i could see Streit and MDZ going for more...i guess i was trying not to find middle ground.
As for giving up on playoffs...i'd be ok with making these trades and letting chips fall where they may. My hope is they would improve or implode...my fear is they would continue on about the same and either squeak in or just miss the playoffs.

Trade with Dallas
I think if Streit has a solid first half and Flyers want to move him at the deadline maybe they get a similar deal to the Kimo deal....2nd round pick and a conditional pick based on how far the team goes and how much Streit plays. If they move him before the season they'll probably have to eat half his salary and might not get much in return

Trade with Dallas
Not terrible. relieves the cap crunch, this year particularly. I'm more ok with moving Read because i think you could fill his bottom 6 role with someone fairly easily.
However unless you get something of value for him, i'd rather keep Streit until the trade deadline....veteran D men on expiring contracts usually net teams some pretty good returns.
