Please, enough of this Hanley **** in the Top 6. I agree with some of the moves you propose, but I think there's a way to improve the D without using Hanley with Lundkvist as our 3rd pairing.

Honestly, that really doesn't matter at all. The lines will be blended anyways. It just didn't feel right to put Benn and Seguin on the same line again, while I wanted to keep Bourque & Stankoven together. Anyways, forward group will be fine either way.

If we want him, at least one of our Top forward prospect has to be part of the package.
I would say any of Stankoven/Jonhston/Bourque + Gurianov + 1st round pick + Salary going the other way. And I am not sure this would do the trick.
Tkachuk is a 24 years old 100 point producer. There is a price attached to that production.</div></div>
I agree, this trade would be considered a highway robbery from the Stars - but it's also counting that Tkachuk would press CAL and show desire for a certain destination, Dallas in this case.
It's only a dream, as said in the title.

I'm counting there will be an actual bidding war for Dylan Strome. If the Stars are able to sign him to a more team friendly contract like 5x5, it would be ideal.

Rounding out the Roster
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>EsoYeezus69</b></div><div>Love the idea! Only thing I’d do differently is play Damiani instead of Olofsson, shift Peterson to LW and put Damiani at C. He’s younger and better, in the games he played this year with Dallas he looked pretty good, him and Peterson had great chemistry in the games they played together.</div></div>
This is the ultimate great and also realistic offseason for the Stars. Fills the hole on RD with Bear while not overpaying for Strome or our RFAs.
I agree that Olofsson will be playing in AHL and Damiani has better chances to play than him. Other than that, this is probably it.
Also good thing it you didn't trade Khudobin in this one, basically having the option of doing so only if needed and possibly creating another cap space or having him on in case there's injury to Oettinger/Wedgewood.
Realistically though they won't trade Faksa but rather Khudobin, but it still fits within the cap.

My ideal Dallas Stars summer
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Francez</b></div><div>Suter isn’t the problem with re-signing Klingberg at all. It’s the fact that they don’t wanna commit 7.5-8 million a year to a player who will be 38 if they give him the 8 year deal. Not only that but Klingberg was awful in the playoffs. That could be a sign of things to come. You don’t wanna take that risk after already messing up the Benn contract, and Seguin unfortunately not living up to his with injuries
I get y’all wanna keep him because he was drafted and developed by the Stars and he’s a fan favourite, but signing him for big money and big term is a huge disaster waiting to happen.
You can’t blame Suters money as being a problem when you have a goalie who isn’t even gonna be on the NHL roster making nearly equal money, a 4th line Center also making equal money, and the captain who will likely peak out at 50-60 points making 9.5 mil. If they wanted to sign Klingberg they would. It just doesn’t make sense to do so</div></div>
Listen, if Klingberg signs 7x7 deal with Seattle or Carolina, I'm definitely blaming Suter's money for it. That's completely reasonable deal for a RHD like him and he will be almost 37 by the end of it, exactly what Suter is now and what Letang will be in 2 years, so chances are, still potentially serviceable at that point and the cap will be over 100M in 2029.
Also, I've been advocating for moving Khudobin for the longest time here, I've written full article about it.

Yes, Klingberg at this point is very unlikely but so is buying out Ryan Suter in reality. This management group values for some reason 37-year old Ryan Suter at 3.5M more than willing to commit money&term for 30-year old Klingberg.
Petry would also cost more. What is the ideal get for Petry at this point, considering Faksa stays in the trade? Please consider Bourque, Stankoven, Johnston, Dellandrea & Harley as untouchables.

Ideal offseason IF the Stars keep Khudobin as a backup
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TheMooterus</b></div><div>I'd swap Dellandrea and Johnston. I'm also reaching out to anyone under the cap floor about taking Faksa's contract. I'll send a 3rd or a 4th with him as payment, but I'm doing everything I can to move him off of the roster this offseason.</div></div>
I'd think moving Khudobin's final year of contract would be much easier than moving Faksa, but I can see him being moved either during this season or next offseason. Why?
Right now, the front office isn't sure who would play those tough minutes Faksa plays and also the PK. Once they realize Dellandrea and possibly others are fully capable of doing that, they'll move him and he'd have also less years remaining on his deal. I'd predict he gets moved next summer.

That's good to know. Reasoning behind this trade for Stars: Kiviranta is one-year away from UFA and probably not re-signing and they have cheaper options that him like Studenic that'd do the job exactly the same. Tufte is no longer waiver eligible and he'd likely get picked on waivers if he doesn't make the team, but he's big and fast, basically your ideal 4th line winger.
3rd rd pick is something I'd throw in to beat other suitors.

I hope Stars buy out Suter and use the cap space to find RHD replacement.
Klingberg isn't getting 58 million total on the market. He's close in that 50 mil. range, which means 7x7 on the open market and potentially 6.25Mx8years from Stars (ala Lindholm).
This is an overpay.

Stars Win Now and In the Future
You hit the nail on the things that need to happen in order to be competitive, and that's getting rid of underperforming contracts like Khudobin, Faksa, Suter and pay ideally with some draft picks.
I don't know if Isles would want Suter, but if there's a team that could be in play for him, it's them. If not, you can still buy him out and save 2.6M in cap space you can use for a guy like Ethan Bear.
Also Klingberg doesn't need 8 year contract. 7 year contract worth the same AAV is just about right for a guy like him.

Buyout Faska if a trade cant be worked out with him involved.</div></div>
If you want to buy out somebody, the best candidate is Ryan Suter but the best time to do it is probably next offseason.
Klingberg isn't getting 7x8M in open market. That 56M in total. My deal gets him around 50M but he gets to stay in Dallas.
The maximum I see somebody offering Klingberg in free agency is 7.5M for 7 years. Dallas can offer him the same offer, no problem. At that points, it's just his decision and I think Nill will play this exactly as he did with Khudobin after 2020 bubble run. He re-signed with Dallas the first day of free agency.

Getting rid of Khudobin is the key
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TheMooterus</b></div><div>- Oettinger gets more money
- Either give Robertson a 3-year deal, 4-year deal, or an 8-year deal. Anything else is bad for Robertson or for Dallas
- Klingberg is going to want about $1M more than what you've got offered here
Easy fix to all of this:
- Don't sign Raffl (don't need him when Dellandrea/Studenic can fill his role for $400K less)
- Pay someone to take Faksa's entire contract.</div></div>
I think Oettinger knows Dallas and Jeff Reese is a great place for him to be and signing for 3.75M is actually a total comparable with Andrei Vasilevskiy bridge deal back in 2016. I know the cap is higher now but we have post-covid flat cap environment as well, so it balances out. We'll see what the number will be.
I'm actually on board with bridging both Oettinger and Robertson for 3 years and I see your point of signing him for that or 8 years. I just think with agents and all, they know that too and good compromise is signing him to 6 or 7 year deal, where he can be a UFA being 28 or 29 years old. That way you can actually save on cap instead of bridging him and then offering 10+ in 2025 or pushing to 8 year deal. The best case scenario is 8x8 contract, bottom line.
I think it's much easier to trade Khudobin than Faksa, that's why I did that and with Faksa, you get at least SOME return for your investment instead of NONE in Khudobin's case.
I'm also not on board re-signing Raffl, it was just an example of signing old UFA, because I had 1.2M in cap space and 22-man roster and we all know how Nill loves to do that.
Klingberg honestly isn't getting 8M, not even in an open market. Evolving Hockey has his most probable contract projection at 6.9M for 6 more years. 7x7 is just FAIR compromise from him AND the team.

Calgary trade year 2
Well, they're probably not buying out Cogliano and sending Comeau away, even though we'd agree that at least one of them should be sent away. That means, you have 4.4M of cap space less. Also, I think they are keeping them, so when their cap is off in 2021-22, Miro's cap hit can be easily manageable.
They'll probably re-sign Khudobin for 1 more year at 3M. So that's 7.4M with Comeau and Cogs. Gurianov's and Faksa's cap hit are OK but I think Hintz is getting at least 5M in bridge deal. All of a sudden, they do not have that cap space for big splash. And personally, I'd be glad if they keep at least one of Comeau and Cogliano. Having Comeau, Cogliano and Janmark is redundant even now, that's why your proposed trade in previous thread Janmark+Honka+pick for Hamonic would be great (we'd need to sweten it with another prospect though).
But even without free agent splash (or overpay) this is a good team for next season, especially with Dellandrea and Harley coming up. We need RHD help though. I hope they let Polak walk. Possible UFA candidates for this year are Green, Vatanen, DeMelo, Tanev, Barrie. Me personally, I would love if they could use Tampa's cap trouble in the summer and acquire Erik Cernak.

Well, I would have swapped Dickinson for Gurianov - see my trade "Hanzal - Galchenyuk - revisited".
Also, I don't think Montreal would want McKenzie - and he's been appointed as a Texas Stars captain, therefore I'm offering Oleksiak instead of him.
Hanzal+Gurianov (2015 1st round pick)+Oleksiak (2011 1st round pick) + 2nd would do, no?
