<a href="/users/palhal" target="_blank">@palhal</a> Ive always been a fan of Brown playing with Matthews. The first year i saw a spark but as bigger names entered the lineup he faulted down. I wouldnt mind seeing this opportunity again.

It's kind of a weird ACGM roster.....I should have noted that these trades might make sense individually as one-off ideas
Horton's $5.3m is currently on this year's cap because they need to keep him off LTIR this year....next year is fine...so the Trading of Horton could make sense f there's some bigger moves they can make at this year's TDL and need the cap space...a financially sound team like the rangers might be interested in getting a bigger return on McQuaid in exchange for them being the team to stash Horton on LTIR

Edmonton's paying out the nose for Brown; while I support other GMs punishing the Oilers for the mismanagement they've put them through, I can't see Edmonton paying more than a 3rd and a 5th for Brown, especially when a lot of other teams are offering what appears to be a 4th at most.
I also think Edmonton might have some interest in Zaitsev too, but they'd have to be mighty creative regarding the cap in order to pull it off.

Brutal cap situation
Take out oz, Lindholm and Ennis, replace with Liljegren, brown, goat and bring up a guy to hit 22 and it seems fine to me...
You kindof overpaid for Matthews and Sparks, which would just roll over into paying Johnsson and maybe a touch more for Kappy but in general I think you are close.
There is a reason why Matthews x 6 is gaining traction

How does Toronto pull this off
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>A_K</b></div><div>I think they can do it. Marner at 9m x 8 yrs could happen, Matthews at 11m probably doesn't buy as many UFA yrs, maybe its 11m x 5 or 6 yrs.
Trade Brown for a pick and replace him with Moore or Grundstrom, or someone else on elc - there's another million. so you've got about 2.2m to find a competent RD to mitigate the risk of rushing Liljegren. Worst case, Kapanen can get moved in the offseason if they really need room.</div></div>
Wow, you’d think you were a leafs fan lol. Good job.

It just makes sense for them. He'd be a pure rental player who can help move the puck up. Morrisey is fine, but lacks the offensive chops of Gardiner.

I could see this. Blues would have to be happy with that return, though idk if they want to move on from him. Pens fill out their D, and Leafs get their top pair righty.

If it's a low first a team will be willing to pull the trigger. That being said, I don't think Pittsburgh will be the team to do it since they have no solid prospects outside of Hallinder, but a team who hasn't won needing more offense from the left side (Winnipeg) might be willing to pull the trigger since they have defensive stalwarts on the right side.

Lol, love it... 40 point bottom Pairing Dman. So much hate. Now admitidly he has his deficiencies but he at least brings in a 2nd and a prospect. Not that I want to get rid of him anyway.

Compare 2017/18 or 2016/17. The gap between “difficult minutes” is much smaller then every other analytic. Zaitsev logs tough minutes I won’t lie, but Pesce would do a MUCH better job at it

Everyone on her seems to think he's a legit star and he has done nothing to garner that praise. 20 points career high on a non playoff team that allows too many goals and doesn't score enough.</div></div>
Dude he’s a rock defensively. offense isn’t his game. He’s a great defensive puck moving D. That’s what the leafs need.

As for this agm you should trade zaitsev to a team looking for a shutdown RHD... now if only we could find a team looking for one.... any ideas?</div></div>
Lmao Zaitsev is not a shutdown D. Look at his underlying numbers. He’s a liability defensively. Sure he hits, but based on shots/ goals against, he’s not very good at his role. Pesce crushes him

Let's imagine all those RFA signs go through. It's still necessary to get by with with cheap and in this case inexperienced Dmen like Sandin and Liljegren. Thought I expect them to be good long term NHLers to have both on the team playing big minutes seemed a step backwards for the Leafs next year. Just gotta think the Leafs need a better (most expensive) Dman in the lineup....and yes it will cost them a forward, maybe even a good forward.</div></div>
the gap between Zaitsev and Pesce is massive. its not a little gap. Zaitsev is a low end RHD and Pesce would be a legit #2 playing with Reilly

I don't see how that trade would make the Leafs better this year. Leafs lose two starting regulars for one. And certainly it hurts the Leafs long term as Spurgeon is a 1.5 year rental.
Folks always like "the addition" but the "subtraction" has to be considered.
