Neither of these trades really help Montreal in fact I'd argue trading 2 of your best penalty killers, one of your best goal scorers and the second best defenceman on your roster for 4 players who may never be as good, a more expensive version of Paul Byron, and an overpayed 3rd pairing D who can't contribute offensively is a bad idea.
Montreal is close to being a serious contender, detonating the core for the sake of it won't help the team.

I believe your looking for common knowledge as common sense is more for things like not putting forks in electrical sockets.
Also not everyone lives in an urban area

they won't have the space in 2 years, take a gander at the contracts expiring. Mete, Gallagher, Domi, Danault, Petry, KK, Poehling, Lehkonen, Armia, Tatar and not to mention the various prospects in the minors and reserve list players who haven't been signed yet. That space will dry up fast

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>clapperzzz11</b></div><div>Mike Reilly is a good 6th Dmen.

Allow me to set up what you did here.
You traded, 2 young and promising D-men, 1 solid D-man, and a very good top 6 winger, for an excellent Top 2 D-man.
Then signed a solid d-man for more money than any of the 3 you just traded and a bottom six vet on a team that has a veteran presence.
I would like Zach Werenski but, Juulsen, Mete and Kulak are all in my opinion better or just as good as Ben Hutton and it would hurt more to trade them.
Also get MIke Reilly out of my life. He's a frustrating thing that exists. One minute he looks like a good bottom pairing guy. The next he's completely lost and turning over the puck, there's a reason he was in the doghouse for lengthy stretches.

Nick Leddy
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>joshelkin</b></div><div>I see 2 trade routes for Leddy
1) Straight swap for a Top-6F. As Trotz said, the lineup needs a little more "pop". Ideally, this top-6F would be a power play specialist. Tatar or Hoffman comes to mind.
2) Futures. This would probably signal another move is coming and the Isles need to dump salary. A lottery protected 1st and 3rd OR a 2nd and B+ prospect are likely the starters.</div></div>
Tatar is probably the odd man out over the next couple of years in Montreal, I see that as more likely avenue than Hoffman

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>KCarry74</b></div><div>I could see Mete + prospect + 2nd. Let me arrange this</div></div>
Montreal's need at LD is long term I can see Mete easily replacing Chiarot in 3 years. If Montreal wants Leddy they should trade something else so as to not force themselves to take the riskier approach and draft one

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ragsandbluesfan</b></div><div>This and let price go in FA</div></div>
Letting Price walk wouldn't have worked, Lindgren and McNiven aren't starting goalies and Primeau is too young.
Who's the replacment? Hutton, the same goalie carousel Philly used, Reimer, Mike Smith? I'd rather have an overpayed Price

Montreal needed a leader and Nashville needed a marketable name. Both got what they wanted and it was a win for both parties.
Sure Montreal could've traded for something more flexible and riskier but that hasn't been Bergevin's M.O.

Canadiens 2019-20 Go Habs Go to the playoffs and beyond
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>numbah4BobbyOrr</b></div><div>Yes and that was before the Rangers, Devils and Panthers all got a lot better this offseason</div></div>
Rangers are a fringe playoff team
Devils are better but will need to score more(2,67 GF/PG is bad and you aren't exactly Dallas or the Islanders), healthy Hall will help, and get scored on less because 3,3 GA/PG is horrifying. Goaltending got worse with the loss of Kinkaid and Subban isn't a defensive powerhouse so he won't be offsetting that.
Florida, it's Florida, they have a tendency to completely disappoint even if you had no expectation of success, they are better on paper but I'll need to see to truly believe it.
Isles are unsustainable, Pens are done, Jackets need to get ambitious, again. Canes are due to regress because it's Carolina and they can't have nice things, the Met is a bit more wide open.
Honestly Montreal, Florida, Boston, Buffalo could all be contenders for the last spot in the east and the wildcards
