<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>numbah4BobbyOrr</b></div><div>Yes and that was before the Rangers, Devils and Panthers all got a lot better this offseason</div></div>
Rangers are a fringe playoff team
Devils are better but will need to score more(2,67 GF/PG is bad and you aren't exactly Dallas or the Islanders), healthy Hall will help, and get scored on less because 3,3 GA/PG is horrifying. Goaltending got worse with the loss of Kinkaid and Subban isn't a defensive powerhouse so he won't be offsetting that.
Florida, it's Florida, they have a tendency to completely disappoint even if you had no expectation of success, they are better on paper but I'll need to see to truly believe it.
Isles are unsustainable, Pens are done, Jackets need to get ambitious, again. Canes are due to regress because it's Carolina and they can't have nice things, the Met is a bit more wide open.
Honestly Montreal, Florida, Boston, Buffalo could all be contenders for the last spot in the east and the wildcards

load of 1st round pick
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>KCarry74</b></div><div>I like your comment man!
2- I'm trading him because I see an opportunity to get a good asset back (Tolvanen or 1st pick, i was generous here). Danault will fall down the depth chart eventually not because he is bad, But he will fall down and we won't be able to pay him what he deserves.
3- Kinda same explanation as 2. He will forever be behind weber and with Juulsen, Brooks, Fleury, we can let him go for assets when he has value.
4- Same thing here. He has value and we can let him go.</div></div>
Turris is 5 years worth of what essentially amounts to wasted money. Danault is both better and cheaper and we don't need Tolvanen so badly that the team needs to handicap itself when, KK, Poehling, Domi, Gallagher, Mete, Lehkonen, Juulsen and Armia come around for new contracts, Tolvanen too if they get him. Trust me it won't be worth it

I'm a Habs fan, I'm numb to it at this point.
McDonough, Higgins, Janik and Velentenko for Scott Gomez, Tom Pyatt, and Busto(who?)
Peter Budaj and Patrick Holland for Eric Tangradi
Sergachev for Drouin, we need left defencemen NOW
Drafting Juulsen 8 picks ahead of Dermott, oh look a left d
Alex Galchenyuk
Drafting Micheal McCarron, the pick before Shea Theodore. Again we need left defencemen

Realistic fans have been patient for 5+ years now because even the last few playoff teams were just limping in to the playoffs and had no shot at a cup.</div></div>
from 2010-2015 they drafted poorly, only a handful got signed and beyond Svechnikov, Ehn, Larkin, Mantha, Bertuzzi and Athanasiou the rest barely played or were hot garbage when they did. You may think by the guys I named they did well, 6 good players in 6 years is not doing well. Only half were in the first round. Truly terrifying

load of 1st round pick
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SmugTkachuk</b></div><div>And that’s fine, for Stone. My point has come back to why do you expect firsts for your middling packages?</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>KCarry74</b></div><div>he's on the first line but only because we don't have 1st line center.. yet. And NAS need him to go away before next year so yea, he's a dump.</div></div>
First, Danault, Tatar and Petry aren't middling. Not worth first rounders but not middling(Tatar actually got a 1st, 2nd and 3rd when Detroit traded him, the 1st became Joe Veleno).
Second, why for the love of everything holy would Montreal trade Danault with salary retained for a cap dump?!? He was a 50 point player, finished 7th in Selke voting, and is a leader on this team. He also makes 3 million and is 26. Turris makes 6 for 5 more years, may not recover his offence, is a downgrade, and is 30
Third, why are we trading one of our best shutdown D when the defensive depth is virtually non-existent
Finally, stop trading Tatar people, he was a 50 point scorer and has 2 years under contract
PS Danault can be a first line centre

How good is this team
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>grok</b></div><div>immediately, it's a cup contender. LW is maybe a bit weak but defense is so good it probably doesn't matter.
one season later...yikes. 10 players come up and they're mostly stars. even with a big cap increase to the TV deal it looks bad. at least 8m for pietro (comparable to carlson deal). 6m+ for labanc, who's on an unprecedented "win us a cup and i'll pay you" deal. dadonov gets first line money. josi probably asks for the same money pietrangelo gets. tierney gets a modest raise or holds out in FA (he's arbitration eligible).
we're talking around $15-20m in raises with $7m in cap space. dahlin and the entire second line need new contracts in year three with all that new money tied up. this team is good now but lacks cost-controlled assets with term to move up when the team moves on from its quality non-core players.</div></div>
It's not built for long-term success
