You're giving 3 prospects and a first round pick for Noah Hanifin half retained?
Unless you believe this team is going to go all the way to the Stanley Cup finals, you're the worst General Manager in history!
If they get bounced in the 1st or 2nd round (which they probably will!), you've lost all of those prospects, you've lost that first round pick and with Hanifin being a UFA and American, he's probably going to an American team like Boston.
Dubas used to make a splash like this for so many years and now its no wonder the Leafs farm system is garbage.

I agree, Brad has been pretty disappointing in the majority of his signings. Ironically, the only one that was great turned out to be Benoit. I heard he had a reputation of building good defensive teams (like he did with Calgary). If he can build a good D-core, I'll hop right back on the Brad Treliving bandwagon. However, the job he's done so far has been trash.

Agreed. I don't know why management has kept him for too long but I think it's too late in the year to replace them. But if we don't have a new head coach next season, Leafs management is beyond incompetent.

This is honestly the smartest thing to do given how the Leafs season is going. I don't care who we sell those pending UFA's to, just get some decent prospects/draft picks to re-stock the farm system. Take the extra cap space we have in the off-season and build a defense core that is worth something. Hell, while you're at it, fire Keefe and hire Berube to make this team learn some god damn accountability.
We should be sellers at the deadline, this team is going no where.

Wilson was just the first name that came to mind that would lower Toronto's cap hit. I'm just tired of the constant drama and the massive cap hit that comes with the Core 4. We're paying our core players massive contracts and all they've had to show for it in Toronto is 1 playoff win. It's freaking annoying.

It's a bad idea to give long term deals to people who are on the decline. I would argue that Tom Wilson and Ryan O'Reilly is in that category.
A declining Tom Wilson is not the same value as a William Nylander at his peak.
I wouldn't devote that much money to Ryan O'Reilly for 3 years.
That money would be far better spent strengthening our defense
I also wouldn't bring Freddie Andersen back to T.O.

I like this ACGM, I think that's the kind of backend we need.
On Kyper and Bourne, Treliving mentioned he wants to structure the Leafs in a way where they can get in front of the other teams net and keep the other team away from the front of our net.
I think that's something we were missing under Dubas.
Now that Holl is out of the lineup, I think we might be able to make that happen.

I don't see a justification for the amount of money he's being paid. His contract is also going to expire in 2 years. Do you think he's going to be asking for LESS money or will he be even more of an overpaid player after that.

Marner makes 10.9 million dollars and he's going to ask for a raise in 2 years and in 7 years in Toronto all he's managed to win is 1 round.
Matthew Tkachuk is making 9.5 million dollars, he's signed for the next 7 years and he's already taken a team to the Stanley Cup finals.

The funny thing is that the second you brought in Nylander and Marner to your team, you're already over the cap with a 20 man roster.
See what bringing in overpaid players like Marner does to your team?

Great points! I didn't even talk about the UFA signings or the picks or the farm system!
At the end of the day a GM (and the team) should be judged on playoff performance and what the trajectory of the team is moving forward.
No team in the entire league pays $40 million to 4 players and if they did, they sure as hell better have more than 1 playoff series win in 5 years!
If I could trade Matthews, Marner and Nylander for a shot at the Eastern Conference Final in the foreseeable future, I'd do it in a heartbeat!
Year after year, it was playoff disappointment after playoff disappointment and we have to come to the conclusion that we can't win with these guys.
The worst part is that they're all going to be asking for raises in a year or 2!
What the hell are we paying for!?

If Tulski became the next GM, I'd have absolutely no problem with it In fact, I'd applaud the decision 100%. The work that Tulski did in Carolina is absolutely amazing and look at the runs that they've had over the last few years. If the Leafs went as far as Carolina did in the playoffs, nobody would be complaining about the Core 4.
Dubas' problem wasn't that he was analytics-based, it was that he didn't manage his assets well. He didn't sign Matthews, Marner or Nylander on 8 year deals and now there's the possibility one or more of them could walk because we can't afford the raises they're going to demand. He signed Tavares for 7 years, 11 million and now with his no-move clause we can't trade him. He traded Marchment for Malgin which is a stupid deal. He protected Holl and Kerfoot over McCann which was very stupid. He let Hyman walk for nothing and now we're all regretting that. Lastly, he traded for Matt Murray and now the next GM has to clean up his mess.
I don't understand why this guy gets as much praise as he does, he was a mediocre GM at best. Most GM's, if they had a young core of Matthews, Marner and Nylander would be able to build a team that wins more than 1 round in the Stanley Cup playoffs.
In short, I'd love Tulsky as GM of the Leafs any day of the week.

I’d be careful with how much I pay for Chychrun. If you look at his career, the most amount of games he’s played in a year is 68 and the lowest amount of games is 47. Hell, he’s currently injured now. I don’t wanna pay a kings ransom for a guy who could be injured 14-35 games on any given season.
Roast me if you want, I don’t think he’s worth the risk.

Trade Muzzin for Larsson
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>OldNYIfan</b></div><div>No, I'm saying that you've got two problems with any Muzzin trade. (This one has a third -- Larsson's NTC -- but that's not important to this discussion.)
(1) Muzzin's NTC.
(2) Muzzin's value to the other team and its cap space.
The general impression is that Muzzin is an Ontario guy and he probably doesn't want to uproot his family unless he's going to go to a contender for the Stanley Cup. Therefore, although this is speculative, the generally-accepted "wisdom" is that Muzzin isn't likely to waive for a bottom-feeder like Anaheim or Arizona or Chicago or Seattle or similar no-hopers. How he would feel about nearby Buffalo or Detroit or Ottawa is unpredictable.
A player can have different value to different teams, and that difference can vary widely. To Toronto, and to a similar contender needing a solid defender (especially one soft at LD), Muzzin is still quite valuable. (My personal opinion is that it would be a serious mistake for Toronto to trade him away because I don't see how you're going to replace him -- in particular, the LD UFAs left are a pretty sorry lot.) But to a team which isn't getting near the playoffs this year and unlikely to make them in 2024, what's the future benefit of having him on the team? Going from 27 wins to 31? So his value to non-contenders is pretty minor compared to his appeal to the contenders.
To me, the most likely scenario is something like the Mrazek transaction, whereby Toronto moves back in the 2023 draft in return for moving Muzzin. But that presupposes Muzzin proves us all wrong and accepts a trade to a team willing to do that and able to afford his cap hit.</div></div>
You make a good argument but I think it might be easier to move Muzzin next year without having to do what we did with Mrazek.
Muzzin has the same Modified NTC that Mrazek has (10 team no-trade list)
However, unlike Mrazek who had a dreadful year last year, Muzzin's performance is typically acceptable. So I think it will be do-able to find a trade with the 21 remaining teams in the NHL by adding a draft pick or a prospect as a sweetener to a Muzzin trade.
The reason that getting rid of the Muzzin contract this year is of some importance is that there is a log jam on the LHD side and Sandin doesn't see a spot for himself to play big minutes in the lineup. We could always get rid of Holl but that doesn't automatically solve the Sandin situation since he's not a RHD.

McDonough was moved because there were teams lined up to take him off waivers. They did him dirty, and their locker room will suffer for it and so has BriseBois legitimacy.
Have a team that is willing to take him off waivers, but McDonough had a far better season than Muzzin did last year.</div></div>
So would you say that Dubas is keeping Muzzin his year and moving him next year when his NTC becomes a Modified NTC?

I'll bet you can't come up with 3 examples in the last 5 years. Moreover, speaking of bets, if you think that Seattle is going to have a sniff at the playoffs this season or the next, there are a lot of wagers I'd like to place with you.
McDonagh didn't sign his current contract with his current club. Larsson and Muzzin did, when they could have gone anywhere.</div></div>
Okay, you got me, I can't name 3 examples off the top of my head in the last 5 years.
