I listened to what Friedman had to say and he didn't rule out the possibility of a buyout.
If the Leafs don't buy him out later this week and he comes back at any point next season, the Leafs will have violated the salary cap.
Can't get them all right, better luck next time champ!
Gambling that Murray won't play again is a risky proposition.</div></div>

Just a side note - the way that LTIR is factored into these posts is not 100% accurate. Cap friendly show the Leafs are officially still at -2.1m of actual LTIR overage at the moment.

There are actually a bunch of reasons to not do it. At the time of that trade...Hawks didn't have 1 goalie under contract. Now (4). Cap Space is clearly a HUGE issue with teams right now. Much more so than last year. And KDs already been public that "they're not chasing any goalies this year". Meaning he know ls he chased last year and won't again this year.
All that said...I'd still do it.

Will need to add your 2023 6th if Boston goes on a run and the picks are less than 5 spots appart.

That caused Matthews to wait and get overpaid and they couldn't accept the 9milx8 Marners camp offered the summer of 18-19. Lou did a lot of good but he also ****ed a lot up here too.
Shanahan is the real issue. He's been here through it ll</div></div>

That is true but the bigger take away from my point would be the blues want to retain little to no salary on him. I honestly think you could have him for just a decent prospect if you don’t ask for retention

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>aedoran</b></div><div>I like this and it doesn't happen enough in the NHL anymore. By only signing a few UFAs it says you think you can win with the team you have. Instead of waiting for the new guy to change the team it forces your best players to change things. Like Toronto's big 4 can't play tough or add grit to their game.</div></div>
I wish the Leaf had been able to trade Marner, so they could use the cap to add more players. I disagree that that the big don't have grit or even some toughness.
Actually I floated the idea, that Leafs trade Marner to one of few teams that might be able to absorb withhout sending cap back to the Leafs. Or the Leafs had left Marner exposed to Seattle. and selected by Seattle so they could spend his 11m wiser. Somehow the Leafs need some of their smaller cap players to step their game....Sandin, Liljegren, Robertson, Mikheyvov to be successful. That's a big ask.

I get ya. Just empty out everything that isn’t on the roster to make a few trades lol.
Personally I listen for good constructive criticism and give the 99% of the trolls on here a hard time.

On here people tend to make no sense and can not backup what they say.
Marner's cap hit is slightly high but he does not have a bad contact. Every NHL GM would take him with his current contract.
The Leaf's will not split up their core. you need to learn how to win in the NHL Look at Tampa, Washington, Redwings etc very few teams win when the contending window first opens

Just nothing justifies exchanging important playoff assets from a contending team to more expensive asset who just can't produce in the playoffs. I fathom to understand how this makes Canes a better team.</div></div>
Same thing people said about Yzerman in the late 80's and early 90's
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Caniac2000</b></div><div>Why would Carolina trade their 2C for a bad contract? You'd have to retain half to even start a conversation around Trocheck.</div></div>
Its not a bad contact.
Why would Carolina do this?
1. Marner is the better player by far
2. in actual salary Marner has Less than $25M owed if done after July 1st with only $750K for the 21-22 season
3. Trocheck is owed $6.25M this year
4. he is a UFA at the end of the year
The real question is why would the Leaf's do it.

Probably the best value Columbus could get. It helps us with the cap and toughens the team. Just don't see Dubas being bold enough for that kind of trade.
