Truth is I'm not much of a McCabe fan at all, and would gladly move him + pay more $$$ to Edmundson to fill the LD hole.
I know someone else who could've filled the LD hole too..... his last name rhymes with "Violet"

He was a controversial scratch for us... he played very well at times. As for Ceci, you're the first person I've heard or read that says they wouldn't give him away for a bag of pucks.

He wont be going anywhere if he decides to sign a long-term contract... but honestly, other than Eichel, what reason does he have to want to stay?
If I were him, I'd refuse to sign anything but a 1 or 2 year deal and would start making my exit plans. Even if that means leaving $ on the table this year

Ristolainen trade just playing with the idea
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Richard88</b></div><div>Fair enough on the capspace, you probably need to be careful with that.
The biggest issue with acquiring Ristolainen is the ED. Acquiring him probably means that we have to expose either him or Graves in the ED, and that makes paying Jost + 2nd/3rd for him not worth the hassle. We might as well just stick it out with Cole and ensure that we can keep Graves AND the assets (i.e. Jost + 2nd/3rd). If Ristolainen was a significant upgrade on Cole and Graves then it would be fine, but he's not really.
It would also be more fitting for us to acquire a RHD with just 1 year remaining on his contract, as a Dman with term beyond 2021 just makes it harder to resign Makar/Landeskog/Grubauer. We're also going to want to introduce Timmins soon too, and in that light a RHD with 2+ years term would block Timmins.</div></div>
Makes sense. Risto's 5.4 cap hit in 2021 wont be ideal when COL is trying to sign Landeskog + Makar + Grubauer
Tough to find a fit for a 25 yr old D making 5.4 mil thru 2022 that is ideally suited to play sheltered 2nd/3rd line D assignments & PP2

Ristolainen trade just playing with the idea
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Richard88</b></div><div>Do you mean BUF (the part in bold)?</div></div>
Yes, I got mixed up reading the trade, my bad.
BUF probably wouldn't agree to retain $...Worse cap problems than it may seem b/c of all the RFA's/players coming off of their ELC that need to be signed. (Reinhart, Olofsson, Kahun, Montour, and Ullmark this year, Dahlin & Joker are off their ELC's after next year)
Seeing as COL looks pretty certain to be picking in the bottom 1/3rd of the upcoming draft, I think Jost + 2nd for Risto (no salary retained) is more likely.
And I actually think COL would be one of the best landing spots and fits for Risto, fwiw.

no idea who COL Josh Anderson is (sounds like a nobody from the comments) but Jost + 2nd for Risto is a fair offer. It's not exciting to me as a BUF fan, but at this point, I'm not sure we could do much better than that, so I'd be tempted to accept. The $1 mil retained is a nice touch, but can't see why COL would agree to it. Even if they can afford it, they'd have all the leverage in trade talks for Risto.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>gmgb</b></div><div>At $3M after retention, with only one year left, there are worse gambles. Maybe this extended shutdown is what he needs to rest his body, and refocus his mental game for next season. If I were a GM with a young, not totally proven starter, I'd be interested in Rinne as a mentor/backup for him. I don't think the Sabres are the right fit, because they still have Hutton for another year, but the Flyers or Canucks are examples of teams that might be. I have no idea what fair value for Rinne is right now.
It's all academic anyway. Rinne's got a NMC, and there's next to no chance he asks for a trade. He'll retire a Pred.</div></div>
Rinne I'm sure will retire a Pred, but I do think BUF is a good fit actually. Hutton was so bad for us that there's a real chance he gets his last year bought out... it wouldn't cost much. Only having 1 year left on the Rinne contract is enticing. Not sure I'd give up two 2nd's for him but I like the idea. Buffalo needs a goalie change badly

I would counter by getting rid of the second BUF is giving up, and putting a top-3 protection on the 2020 1st from BUF. Pick defers to 2021 1st if BUF wins a top-3 pick.
Probably wouldn't get accepted by CHI, but the unprotected 1st + 2nd + Mitts is too much from BUF

Question
Clearly the Sabres don't see it, but I'll bet a large handful of teams would be interested in signing him for 1 or 2 years at 1-1.5 mil. I think teams will see that he was miscast/misused.
I'm guessing when the Sabres retain his RFA rights, he will want to go to arbitration, seeing how well it worked for Rodrigues last summer.
Personally, I'd have him in the lineup over McCabe at LD 10 times out of 10.

Really don't like either trade from the BUF side to be honest... we shouldn't trade our 2020 1st unless we're getting a top-6/strong 2nd line C back, and we shouldn't take on the Couture contract after giving Skinner a whopping 9 mil and still owing Okposo 6 mil for a few more years.
The top-8 of this draft looks fantastic, and at this rate we are likely to secure a spot in the top-8 of the draft (again) no problem. I'd need more than Georgiev to consider giving that pick up

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>tampabaylightning1015</b></div><div>Would you do that same trade if it was Johnson instead of Killorn?</div></div>
I would this offseason, yeah. Wish it was an option.
Next offseason, when the modified NTC portion actually kicks in... it would depend a lot on how Cozens looks, he's the long-term plan at 2C and so far he's been as good as advertised.
BUF is going to have to roster him either full-time, or send him back to juniors (which is really not ideal here... he's 100% proven this year that he's ready to move up from junior hockey. Ideally he would be seeing top-6 minutes in the AHL next season. Age rule is potentially brutal for his development)
If he plays great, earns a full-time spot and looks the part immediately next year, then I'm not as interested in Johnson come 2021 summer.
If he busts because we were forced to bring him up too early before he was ready for NHL minutes (like Mittelstadt), then I'm still interested in Johnson.

Agree on BUF passing. It's actually a smart offer value wise by the OP. Echoing other statements but even though we could use Killorn and aren't giving up anything significant for him, I'm not interested in helping Tampa fix their cap woes and the length of the contract is not ideal.
Would really like Tyler Johnson in 2021 if we haven't fixed our **** at Center yet (narrator: they won't)

Attempting an Eichel Trade
99% chance if (feels more like when at this point, with all the misery surrounding this franchise) Eichel requested a trade, he'd be moved out west. All 30 teams would be interested so can't see any reason why he'd need to stay in the East.
It would probably cost one, maybe two 1st's, your best young/recently drafted prospect, your best young developing/close to nhl ready prospect, and a top 6 F (C preferred)
So I agree with Jdfitz, even though a deal to an East team would never happen, from Philly it'd be some combination of 1st's/Hart/York/Couturier/Provorov/Konecny. Patrick and Frost are the only 2 players of the 7 offered in the OP who would have any value at all if offered in a package for Jack

it's not about the money at all... it's about the player. He's really, really not good.
Mike Weber cost the Capitals the series vs Pittsburgh a few years ago after Washington acquired him at the deadline from BUF. WSH fans said it was a good move because it was so cheap, BUF fans said just wait till you watch him play. This feels so eerily similar to what could happen to Tampa... could absolutely see Bogosian blowing it for them

Nothing against ZAR or Simon, but we have plenty of defensive or bottom-6 forwards. I like both players and would take either of them in the right deal, but not for Montour.
At the end of the day though, JJ is a non-starter. Any deal that he's included in will be an easy no because of his contract

Cozens for Kaprizov
The value is fair or at least close to fair both ways, Kaprizov probably has the higher ceiling but is slightly more risk. Both are top-tier elite prospects
For me though, for BUF to even consider this, there would need to be a plan in place for how we're going to fix our massive roster hole at 2C, because as of now Cozens in 1-2 years is the only plan we have
