Bemmer and Foudy have zero trade value. Probably needs to be Corson, Bean (for cap help), 1st and probably another decent draft pick or prospect or two

Thread:
(CBJ/SEA) - Bjorkstrand for 2023 3rd and 4th RD picks
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>budgeteam</b></div><div>I am surprised this is such a landslide as a win for Seattle.
This is the definition of a 'fair deal'.
It is difficult, if not impossible to move out cap with term right now. Even for great players. Columbus managed to do it and get assets. Even if those assets are less than what people would like for the player under a less restrictive cap ceiling.
Look at it this way, they traded Bjorkstand for a 3rd, a 4th, and the facilitation of Johnny Gaudreau's signing.
People will bring up Gudbranson, as if this is NHL 2022, but the reality is that Gudbranson's cap hit isn't linked to this series of transactions because he plays a completely different role/position. They identified that they needed another top 4 defenseman. They may very well have chosen the wrong guy, but in any event the were going to sign someone to top 4 money.
Should they have given up a 1st round pick to move Nyquist instead? That is apparently what the cost was to move JVR. I can't imagine it's much cheaper for Nyquist right now.
Whether they moved on from Laine, Bjorkstrand, Nyquist, Roslovic, etc - the cost was either going to be high to dump a contract, or for players who aren't negative value, the return was going to hurt. This was the cost of acquiring Gaudreau and keeping some balance to the team.</div></div>
Hard to find people who understand why this trade was made the way it was. This was the market for moving cap. Kudos to being the only on one here that understands.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CSStrowbridge</b></div><div>There's about a 50/50 chance neither of these draft picks turn into players that play as much as Bjorkstrand played last year. ... Holy crap, this is a bad deal for the CBJ. Good job, Seattle.</div></div>
Ollie was a 3rd round pick so you never know. Better to get a bad return than to have to spend extra draft picks to move a contract.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>squashmaple</b></div><div>We’re constantly telling people to look at the ratio of a trade. If there’s a lot of assets on one side, reconsider the trade. This is one of those. I’d also want to keep Texier. Take out Bean and Texier, upgrade to Boqvist.</div></div>
Seth Jones was traded for 4 assets, so kinda overrules this thought.
Also, CBJ have value in wings that they can’t fit in the lineup, makes sense to try to move some for the talent they need in the middle and back end.

we could feasibly land Filip Forsberg if we really wanted him
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>palhal</b></div><div>Yea, CBJ is in the enviable position of having cap. I'm just wondering if there is good value in 5m Manson, and 8m Forsberg long term. I know non performance teams want to make a "splash"in the off season to try to make a push for next season, but wondering if there better ways to spend cap this season, and in future years.</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>hopefullynextyear</b></div><div>Forsberg is an obvious upgrade at talent short term, but with marchenko, chinakov, laine, oliver and maybe johnson all locked into the long term future at wing, does it really make sense to spend $8M at a position we don't need? This is disregarding tex, boone, and foudy that I am guessing will all stick at wing in the future if we can develop C's.</div></div>
You’re both right. CBJ won’t do much with UFA this off-season, especially with the logjam of young wings ready to go.

Summertime
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ajp_18</b></div><div>Defence is my main concern with Columbus, they gave up the 3rd most goals in the league last season, only Arizona, who was total tank mode, and New Jersey, who deployed 7 goalies last season, gave up more. Columbus also scored pretty well last season, finishing 14th and will Johnson in the line up all season that number should go up.
For draft I want Juricik at 6 (or Nemec if we win lottery) and a center, Nazar is a name I’m leaning toward currently but could change by the draft.</div></div>
I think Nazar could be a sleeper. Everything I’ve read about him screams CBJ. I think y’all are right about RHD if available with Chicago’s pick. If not, they can take a good LHD with our own pick

I want Cooley bad enough that if they had to trade both 1sts to move up and get him I’d be okay with that.
I think Savoie and Geekie are really compelling, but could see them going RHD at 6 as well.

Brannstrom
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dopplsan</b></div><div>He's very aggressive, fast...I still think he's got potential. He wants to be/ CBJ keep playing him at C, but more and more I'm thinking he should stick at LW. I think if he's still having trouble by the end of the season, you could see CBJ fielding offers. Once Johnson, Marchenko, et al. come over next season, F spots are going to get real limited real quick.
But idk, it could be worth it to look at this trade. Brannstrom is an RD, which we need. It's not necessarily pressing, and I could still see Foudy being a sweetener in another trade (*cough* Eichel *cough*), but we'll see.</div></div>
Brannstrom is left handed, so could really play either side. CBJ restocked the cupboard with forwards, but pretty thin at D, so could help the depth in the future. Obviously an Eichel trade would be cool, just not sure it’s the move they need to make right now

Sillinger and Chinakov have looked great. Agree about Hofmann. Would think they all have a spot to lose at this point.
