Wouldn’t be opposed to a Hoffman for Tatar swap. A third line of Tatar-Dvorak-Gally may just work in MTL if past history has any indication.

Not trying to be a pessimist, but you do know dynasties are essentially impossible in the modern salary cap era? Especially for Canadian teams.

Fair enough, that’s also who I’d want the Habs to target if they don’t get the 1st pick.

Keeping Petry and Signing Kane
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SevenLeg</b></div><div>If all those bad behaviors are gone, which they seem to be since arriving in Edmonton, I'd be very pleased with Kane. Probably too early to tell if he's really changed, though.</div></div>
He was first with the Jets, got traded due to his attitude, but was still young and talented so Buffalo took a chance. His attitude was still an issue there and although he was improving on the ice he wasn’t blowing up the scoreboard so they traded him to the Sharks. He gets there becomes a top producer seems to have turned over a new leaf. Then all the bs started and his TEAMMATES voted not to take him back after his suspension this season. Goes to the Oilers plays with McDavid starts producing and stays out of the limelight and signs a contract in the off season and then the expected happens…
Im all for giving second chances but this guy is way past that.

Keeping Petry and Signing Kane
Down to keep Petry IF his family agrees to move back and he decides MTL is where he wants to be. Kane on the other hand has been a cancer everywhere’s he has gone, last kind of guy you need on a young retooling/rebuilding team.

Devils Win Lottery Then Trade Pick To Montreal
Shane Wright to me is the closest thing to a sure bet in this year’s draft. He slots in to be a great 2way force and leader but with that being said I have no issue with MTL picking 2nd or 3rd. Cooley while more risk slots in to be more of an offensive force than Wright and could become that 100 point player in his prime, plus the kid is fast as hell. Nemec is the third choice in my mind, and no issues there either. He has the ability to control play in all three zones and is only going to get better, plus he’s a righty which MTL could use more of. Overall if I’m Hugo I’d be content with whatever pick the hockey gods assign us, no need to spend assets to move up. If anything I consider possibly gaining assets if MTL gets 3rd and trading down and picking Jiricek.
As long as Hugo doesn’t make the same mistake as predecessors and go off the board to pick another KK I’ll be happy.

Best situation for the Jets is if they can resign him but if they can’t this is a fair offer. Would another team offer more? Possibly, but I can’t see any team « blowing away » this offer.

For the record I’d rather keep Petry but family comes first so I can respect his trade request. A 2nd is a low ask and I think how he played to finish out the season proves that.

If Dubois were willing to sign a similar contract to Suzuki’s upon the trade going through then yes I’d say that is a reasonable summation.

Word is that the Jets and Dubois are at an impasse regarding a new contract so it is actually completely plausible that Dubois gets moved, but I will agree… not for this package.

Miller Montreal

The difference between the 2 is one costs 4 good assets and a contract, where the other costs just a contract. For me I take the guy who just costs a contract and keep the 4 assets.</div></div>
Fair enough point, but still have to convince Kadri to come to MTL over every other suitor. And IMO in a league where the average player’s prime is what? 5 years? 3 years in age is a huge difference.

I’ve seen your ACGM trading Petry to the Jackets and it includes 2 mill in retention and buying out Byron would include another mill of cap the following season. This ACGM is about enduring one last season before clearing almost a quarter of available cap without it costing assets.

Miller Montreal
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Campabee</b></div><div>If the trade is after the draft and we already drafted 3rd and took Nemec or Jiricek, maybe I would do that. However why wouldn't we just keep the assets and sign Kadri? Kadri grew up a Habs fan and would be a good 2C fill in until we can draft another top 6C.</div></div>
Because I’d rather a 29 year old Miller than a 32 year old Kadri. Plus if Kadri goes to market this offseason he’s going to be looking for the contract of his career. In conclusion I’m not saying the Habs should make a move like this, it really depends on what direction Hugo decides to take next season.
