Quite in line with what Hughes payed to get Newhook. And Kakko is better than 8 goals, just having a rough season, at least he’s solid defensively even when he’s not scoring.

Where Calgary is in the standings and how they’re playing, that second is most likely a mid second.

Also, massive overpay on Kakko’s and Xhekaj’s contacts</div></div>
Vlasic buyout would be heavy for the first couple seasons but Habs have the cap then it’s completely manageable for the following couple of seasons.
Kakko contract is actually quite in line with the Dach and Newhook deals so I don’t see how that is unreasonable while yeah that’s a lot to give Xhekaj but I believe in his potential so I don’t think it’s a bad investment to get him locked up for his entire prime.

LA doesn’t strike me as a team too interested in a guy like Harris and Kaliev while yeah he can shoot his below average skating and complete lack of back check scares me…I honestly don’t see him getting much of a return but I have been wrong before.

Wow.
Your gross misrepresentation of my reasoning astounds me…

Actually it’s been 17 games and his first two games back he took some bad penalties(3 minors) got scratched a few times and has only gotten two minors since drawing back in 15 games ago. Either way the point I’m making is he is coachable and he’ll be just fine.

Statistically stupid not to? If he's sooo good sounds like Montreal would be statistically stupid for trading him.
Almost as stupid as thinking Crosby would go to Montreal</div></div>
It’s quite simple actually, Montreal has too many left handed dmen to give them all playing time so it makes sense to deal him even if he is promising, young and on a decent contract…while Calgary on the other hand has space for him making a trade mutually beneficial. And I never said Crosby would go to the Habs, I actually quite clearly stated I didn’t think he’d play anywhere else than Pittsburg.

Xhekaj will always take bad penalties, that’s his style of play. We will have to deal with it or trade him</div></div>
Well since Xhekaj has been called back up he’s played 15 games, only taking 2 minors and has been in two fights(which I don’t count since they don’t leave the team shorthanded and he did it to stand up for his teammates). Sounds to me like he’s not taking bad penalties at present almost as if he’s improving that aspect of his game.🤔

Why not? A 2nd has what like a 1 in 3 chance of playing a 100 games in the NHL while Harris has already played 115, is still young and on a decent contract. If they could use him in the lineup it’d actually be statistically pretty stupid to not do that deal.

Okay a few problems here…
First with the comments, at 38 I’m sure Crosby would be fine with playing 2c especially to a guy like Suzy. He’s in the twilight of his career, still producing and mentoring but passing the torch to a legitimate top center in the league.
Secondly, if Crosby did choose to sign with Montreal why do you think he would demand more than he’s ever made before?
And lastly again with the comments, in 2025-26 Montreal will definitely be looking to compete. Hughes has a plan and I get the vibe the season after next is when sees the last phase of this rebuild.
Side note:I’m not sure Crosby will ever play pro anywhere but Pittsburg, but then again Pitty did hire Dubas…

Extremely lazy doesn’t bode well for Barron’s long pro career and as I’ve mentioned in my last post Xhekaj has cleaned up those aspects of his game recently. Regardless we’re at an impasse, I guess we’ll just agree to disagree.

Barron’s decision making is too slow for the NHL at times and it shows.
I don’t how many games you’ve watched lately but Xhekaj looks legitimately like a top 4. He’s big, mobile and has a wicked shot. The digs against him before were his decision making in his own zone and engaging physically even when it put him out of position but he has seemed to clean up those aspects this season and he looks great.
Progression is super important when it comes to young players. Barron still has the same issues he did since he was drafted in the first round while Xhekaj has only exponentially gotten better since going undrafted, I’d wager on Xhekaj in this situation.

The rest I can support…unless Lindstrom is available at the draft, then that’s an easy pick to make.

Oh me too…thought I’d do a post where they don’t bring anyone in for a change and you know what? It doesn’t look half bad and they would be prime for the 2025-26 season with a decent lineup, cap space and lots of assets to address needs.

I’d love to see them change the rules. Cap still applies during the playoffs, if you can’t afford a guy that’s on the LTIR during the season then you can’t afford him during the playoffs. Either that or have official unbiased league doctors checking players status so a team can’t push a player comeback date from LTIR until the playoffs start. Watch Mike Stone will be back for the first game of round one.

Normally I would say a third would be a reasonable return for a half retained Allen…but after seeing how much of a buyers market it is at this year’s TDL I’m amazed by this especially considering the plausible condition on the pick that would turn the return into a 2nd. Hughes knows what he is doing.

(NJD/WPG) - Toffoli for 2025 2nd (WPG), 2024 3rd (WPG)
Poor Toffoli, since being signed as a free agent by Bergy at a very reasonable cap hit he has been a good producer, good two way player and by all accounts a great teammate who says the right things to the media…yet he has been traded three times during his four year contract. I don’t get it, it’s almost like being a good but not great player on a good contract with a good attitude just makes you a moveable asset and nothing more. I really hope this guy finds a more stable home on his next contract, he deserves it.
