Maybe but Savard plays some tough minutes I see St.Louis starting him out with more sheltered shifts. I was thinking maybe Kovacevic myself.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Blazingbat11</b></div><div>Never said anything about expecting him to light it up right out of the gate. Don't put words in other people's mouths (metaphorically speaking).
I'm saying Matheson is, and has always been, a placeholder for PP1. With or without Hutson around. Hutson is just the first player who can realistically contest Matheson's claim to PP1. So I say give 20-year-old Hutson the opportunity to showcase his talents with MTLs best players. and Let 30-year-old Matheson be the one to "fix" PP2, where he is much better suited for.
Again, grand schemes of things. PP1 should be:
Caufield - Dach - Salfkovsky
Suzuki - Hutson
PP2 should have something like:
Roy - Newhook - (someone)
Matheson - Xhekaj/Mailloux/Reinbacher</div></div>
Dude I wasn’t putting words in your mouth. The first part of my comment was towards you and the second part was a comment towards the media. I even made them two separate paragraphs so you hopefully wouldn’t mistake my meaning.
I meant no offense, just trying to temper my fellow Hab fans’ expectations.
I assume St.Louis will start him out with a partner who can handle himself and play him mostly sheltered minutes, maybe give him some looks on the PP and that’s cool with me. Earn your stripes young man.

Montreal Canadiens signed Lane Hutson (3 Years / $1,333,333 AAV)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NHLfan10506</b></div><div>Good player, good signing.
Lane’s size is always going to be a question. But it has been at every level and every year, he has continued to exceed expectations. When he first was called up onto the USA squad for U18 worlds in his D-1 year (ahead of Casey and Chesley), everyone thought it was a typo (he was listed at five-foot-six-inches). After a summer of bulking up, he went into his draft year at 5’7” and around 140 lbs and eventually became best offensive dman for NTDP. In his pre-draft interviews, he brought medical stats that said he would grow to at least 5’10” (imagine that kind of pressure…”grow now!”).
At Boston University, he had two fantastic seasons. He was Hobey Baker top-10 finalist as a Freshman dman (can count on one hand how many have accomplished that). This year, the Hutson-Celebrini duo on BU’s power play was one of the best we have seen in years (it would be very cool to see the two pair up again at next level).
Hutson will be one of the most fun players to watch grow into a NHLer. I will be rooting for him.</div></div>
Well said. Even if he wasn’t a Habs’ prospect I’d be rooting for him.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Blazingbat11</b></div><div>By finally having a solid PP2 unit meaning Matheson will be on it and Hutson being on PP1, I'm all for it!!!
I'm not taking away how good Matheson and his 60 point season has been. But in the grand scheme of things, Matheson has always been a placeholder for PP1 because there was literally no other solid option. Let's see what Hutson can do with Caufield, Slaf, etc. I could care less about our current PP2 with Gallagher and Anderson...</div></div>
Woah buddy, temper your expectations just a bit here. He’s a 20 year old rookie who’s never played a pro game.
I’d hate to see the media just dump on this kid if he doesn’t go out and light it up right out of the gate. I think sometimes media forgets that they are just kids.

He put up 60pts this season, I would say he’d be one of the least worried dmen in Montreal. He’ll be a great mentor to Hutson, maybe finally we’ll have 2 solid PP units.

Whoomp! There it is!
Been interesting the last week in Quebec, especially the French media creating drama by saying Hutson might refuse to sign in Montreal. Glad that’s over, looking forward to seeing what he can do at the pro level.

That + another first for a player making 8.7 million with term whos hit 60 points once in the last 7 years and is a defensive and injury libaility.
If anything until laine comes back and proves hes not the shell of a player he displayed this season hes also a massive negative.</div></div>

2024-2025 shopping list 2x2nd line wingers 1x3rd line center
Play Newhook and Dach together on the 2nd line. Neither is particularly strong in the faceoff dot so alternate them depending who’s strong side the faceoff is on. Also you’re forgetting Joshua Roy, guy will be playing middle 6 next season. So really the biggest need is a 2nd line winger, possibly a 3c but we already have Dvorak, Evans and Beck will be pushing for a spot next season.

Just because a kid has NHL size doesn’t mean he’s NHL ready. Minors for sure…if the Habs even draft him.

Sure I like Lundell but I think I’d rather keep Beck, not to mention the first and Harris for another trade. Not saying the value isn’t fair just that I have high hopes for Beck becoming shutdown 3c in Montreal for a long time.

Oof buying Gally out is not a good idea, Habs would be paying for that when they’ll need the cap the most.
As for Anderson, maybe Hughes will prove me wrong but I just don’t see him being tradeable after the season he’s had unless it’s for another cap dump. I’d like to see him start next season in the minors and have to earn his way back up like Armia did.

Maybe Dubois will but Huberdeau is on the back 9 even if he does revive his career a bit he’s bound to regress due to age. My major problem is all the assets you moved for underperforming overpaid players on long term contracts.

DRAFT LINDSTROM PLUS TRADE UP FOR IGINLA
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Matt1567</b></div><div>I think him and Eiserman are very similar, both are the same size, really good shooters, Eiserman is a few weeks younger and while the rest of his game may not be as good they're in the same tier for me and Eiserman isn't that highly ranked by most mocks I've seen. I look at the forwards in the draft as Celebrini being the clear #1, then Demidov Catton and Lindstrom in tier 2, and then guys like Eiserman and Iginla in tier 3, which in my opinion isn't worth trading an unprotected 1st for when we're a bottom 10 team.</div></div>
Oh yeah I completely agree trading an unprotected first next year to move up this year is a terrible idea, I was only saying that Iginla is worth the hype and IMO worth using the top 10 pick the Habs currently have to draft him is okay with me.

DRAFT LINDSTROM PLUS TRADE UP FOR IGINLA
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Matt1567</b></div><div>trading our unprotected 1st and not significantly improving the team is a recipe for disaster, and personally I don't get the Tij Iginla hype, I think he's a mid-late 1st rounder if his last name wasn't Iginla</div></div>
While I agree with your take on the trade I do understand the Iginla hype. The kid only turns 18 in August, has good size, plays the game right, possesses a good shot and is ripping it up when it matters most rn. The Iginla name definitely doesn’t hurt either but it’s not the only reason he’s being talked up as a possible top 10 pick. Don’t be surprised if the Habs call his name with their first pick this year…I know I wouldn’t be disappointed if they did.

I fail to see anything here that would incentivize Montreal to trade a 60 point dman who plays over 25 minutes a game.
