Last Look Before the Draft
So, the Wild have the following defense prospects that are considered to be potential top 4 guys in Hunt, Lambos, Faber, O'Rourke, Peart and Johansson and then pick another at 19. I would say probably not. I'm no mind reader but they already have Brodin and Spurgeon signed for 6 more years. They would have to have a massive belief he's better than most of the guys they've already drafted and acquired.

Realistic Miller Returns
So, you're saying the return for Miller would be much greater than Fiala? I know he's a center and he's a good one. But he's one year from being a UFA and will be 30 soon which is 4 very productive years older than Fiala. If the Wild did have cap space the return would likely be the Canucks 2022 2nd round pick and either Khusnutdinov or the 19th pick. But given the cap issues Guerin would only entertain trading some of these picks for prospects or young affordable players. Otherwise he'll continue building his prospect pool which is already impressive not including picks 19, 24, 44 and 56.

It is a weaker draft but 2012 still produced some nice NHL players. In fact several including Trouba, Dumba, WIlson and Forsberg.

NHL Mock Draft 2022
I always look at some of you peoples drafts and think, "there must be a motive to your choices for some teams." You have the Wild taking another defenseman at 19?
Not sure how he fits into a group that includes:
Lambos
Faber
Peart
O'Rourke
Hunt
Addison
Johansson
Johansson is a legit prospect and he's not even top 10 for the Wild.

As a Wild fan Necas as the main piece for Fiala sounds great. Not sure Lafontaine is of interest since they have Hunter Jones and Wallstadt playing in Iowa next season. Otherwise well done.

Avs keep Kadri
I think if the Avs keep Kadri it will cost them another significant player down the road. Sturm is way too low at 900k. The only reason the Wild traded him was because they knew he would warrant a significant raise. A center who scores double digit goals his first two seasons playing 4th line minutes is going to want to see what he can do with 15 minutes a game and someone will pay him $2-2.5 million just because he's a center with some skill.

I was trying to add Liligren to the Ducks; should have just sent him to Vancouver. My bad.

If Fiala holds out for a huge contract, Wild will get lower trade return. Hence “peanuts”.

Why is it a tough concept for NJ fans to realize Guerin isn't giving him away for crap? Why not trade the oft injured Dumba and keep Fiala.

Are you bleeping joking. You are honestly getting less than zero. Why not just say the first rounder is top 31 protected. You realize they have 4 seasons of Kaprizov and he might be gone. So, you're trading the second best forward on the team for a bust, a dream and a pick that likely won't help you for 3 to 4 years.
Outside of Rossi the Wild don't have much dynamic offensive talent and Zacha is a 35 point scorer period. The Wild are heavy on D and bottom 6 forwards and you've got them trading for zip. Let's say the Devils pick 24th in 2023. That player won't be an impact player until 2025-26 which will be Kirill's last season in MN.

Zacha has negative value; you might want to come to terms with the fact he's an official bust with no value. Kuokkanen has about the same upside as Dewar, Shaw and Duhaime. So, it's a bust, a 4th liner and a handful of magic beans for a legit 1st line wing. Unreal. You're GM would have to wear a mask to this trade.

Move On From Nylander Slight Re-tool
If your trading Knies and Nylander you better get Boeser and JT Miller because in a year Miller will likely be playing on the east coast for the Islanders, Bruins or Philly.
Nylander based on age is by far the most valuable piece in the trade. Miller is a great player who turns 30 next year and is an east coaster. It's unlikely he would re-sign.
My suggestion a three-way trade with Anaheim and Vancouver that somehow nets Boeser to replace Nylander and John Gibson as your #1 netminder. I would also avoid trading Nies. I've seen him play in person several times and he's got star written all over him. I see him in the Leafs lineup in 2023-24.
Nylander/Holl to Vancouver
Steel/Comtois/Boeser/Gibson ($3m retained by Ducks) to Toronto
Robertson/Meyers/25th OA to Anaheim

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NHLfan10506</b></div><div>He may get 8x$8m as free agent.
If he gets that after trade, it’s likely the trade will be less.
If Fiala only agrees to extend with whomever is paying him $8m x 8 then Guerin has little trade leverage unless he is willing to sell him as rental. If Minnesota wants to start a bidding war on trade, Fiala would have to agree to much lower contract.
In other words, Fiala may get big trade return with team friendly contract…or Fiala may get his contract, but Minnesota will get peanuts.</div></div>
So, the Wild will get "peanuts" for Fiala when this return isn't as good as what Montreal got for Chairot? NJ presumably isn't the only suitor for Fiala and as I've stated before thinking peanuts will get this done will just cause Guerin to trade Dumba and keep Fiala.

Ana - Edm Gibson goes to the Oil patch
So, the Oilers get cap relief, a #1 goalie and two decent forwards.
The Ducks get 4 useless pieces for a rebuilding team a 1st rounder in a weak draft (2022) and a pick next year that would likely be between 25-32. LOL, love it. Reminds me of some of the unrealistic "Make my ___________ (usually a team from Canada) a contender." Yamamoto has some skill but playing with two of the best players on earth doesn't add value. Can't imagine how ineffective he'd be playing with lower quality players. Puljujarvi has some value but he's never going to be the top line winger he was projected to be.

Fiala to NJ edited V2 cause why not
Was going to say 2023 1st rounder is nice but the Wild are competitive now and that could be later in the 1st round. If Mercer is included then lottery protection is fine but the Wild aren't waiting two years if the Devils suck next year. Dawson Mercer would probably be close to enough without the picks.

One of the more massively unrealistic proposals not only is it highly unlikely all of the prime UFA's will go to Detroit you're setting yourself up for trouble on Larkin's next contract along with Seider and Raymond's deals.
The Chychrun trade is way too little. Good wings don't return top pairing defensemen. Arizona could likely get someone like Nylander in a deal.

Considering Fiala will produce more than whoever gets drafted 7th OA something valuable needs to be added. I doubt Guerin is gonna say send me someone who won't play in the league. You want value, you need to give value. And don't think the Wild are "trapped" with Fiala. They can just as easily move Dumba and sign Fiala long term. In fact most fans seem to think that's exactly what he should do.

That's the nice thing on the Wings he's not a bottom 6. Besides you realize perhaps 10 of those 2nd rounders will play more games than Jost will in his career? I'm just guessing your putting a lot into those magic beans.
