Possibly. Much happier with Perron being the vet presence that's for sure.

Not a lot has gone right for Detroit from awful lottery luck to losing 2 players out of our top 6. This is a much needed win for Detroit and that should be enough.

Wings pass. Kuby is on a good deal and provides 20 goals a year. If you want kuby then the 17th overall is off the table. We can swap for the 2024 Boston pick.
Counter offer.
Kubalik. 2024 Boston 1st Round Pick. 2023 2nd Round pick (43rd Overall)

Not sure that's even necessary. Cat can take his QO and play out the season in Ottawa and then is an UFA. I find it unlikely that Ottawa will get anything back that's close to what they gave up even if Cat agrees to an extension with whatever team he's traded to and virtually impossible if he doesn't.

I’m fine with overpaying for the weak market. I’d rather overpay AAV than term. Give Killorn 7M for 2 years. No one else would give him 7M but the wings have cap space

I don't disagree at all. My original parts with Jarry only signed him for 3. Trying to gauge how people feel with more term and money to see what's agreeable.

Yeah, I guess no one was caught up in the hype of potentially landing the steal of the draft (but like Wqrrior suggested seems like scouting departments go it right to pass on him) . Interestingly enough though, a lot of the players from that draft who are full time NHLers are the defenseman, some are still looking to establish themselves as top 4 guys. The forward group does have guys who seem to be on the rise, so who knows maybe one of these guys could still become a top 6 player.

They are doing just fine with the rebuild.

Most Red Wings fans that are fed up are, what you call, 'casuals'. They just don't understand how BAD of a situation Yzerman came into. Given the unlucky lotteries, Yzerman has done well.

you should know by now that capfriendly works under the following conditions:
1. every asset on your team is extremely valuable and should be leveraged for the maximum possible return
2. every asset on any other team is worth scraps and should be given at the minimum possible return
3. expiring ufas will not re-sign

Not at all…as a pens fan I’d take that.
I mean in a perfect world we don’t take a loss for Petry, but to get out of bigger contracts in a cap strapped/flat cap world, you’re gonna have to accept that you’ll lose the trade. I think the Matheson trade was still a W. If we basically at the end of the day got Poehling who fits Sully’s system to a T and a 4th for Matheson and a lesser 4th, I’m ok with that. There’s not much difference in the quality of prospect from 14 to 17 so that’s not a big loss.

There was an Anaheim guy asking for Seider + 9 + 17.
Columbus needs a center coming back in ANY trade resembling fair value, which means the Red Wings are not going to be able to get 3 from Columbus barring extreme overpay.

I don't know, he looked like a lock to be a top 4 dman before the shoulder injuries really set him back and I think he lost a lot of time just getting comfortable in his own game again. He had a good year in GR last year and could surprise people. I don't think the ceiling is as high as it once was, but it's not implausible for him to still forge a path to being a useful everyday NHLer, he's still only 23...

Tennis The Menace
Too much for Cat. this is more than what Ottawa paid to get him.
A 1st, Hanas (which is a 2nd) and a 3rd. That alone is a win for Ottawa just getting their return back. Adding Zadina on there makes this a bigger win for Ottawa and a loss for Detroit. Hanas is also a player that maybe only needs 1-2 years in the AHL before he makes the jump. That's more valuable than a 2nd round pick in this years draft which will be 3-4 years away from playing in the NHL.
And before the Ottawa fans chime in..."but the 1st was 7th overall and this is 17th overall". Frankly the 2022 draft is very weak in comparison to the 2023 draft. Korchinski was taken with the 7th pick and he would be selected maybe in the 15 - 20 range in this years draft. Possibly even between 20 - 25.

Detroit will take Myers to move up to 11OA though -

Myers, 11OA
