Clear Space, Draft Svech 2.0

That would be nice, but I don't think that they will be as bad as last year. Bounce back seasons from Larkin, DeKeyser, Sheahan, and/or Mrazek could keep them out of the top 3. Still not a contender, but not that bad

1 year of Nyquist and a late 1st isn't netting you the top overall pick, esp. since Nyqvist likely has little value to whatever rebuilding team has that pick.</div></div>

PS, the draft cupboard looks bare in 2019. Maybe a nice game of euchre between rounds 1 & 7?</div></div>
Given the cap situation Detroit is in right now, sacrificing a draft to create space to sign your young guys and bring in high level FAs might be worth it. Better than floundering in cap purgatory for 5 years.

Maybe, but a 25 year old Olympic level goalie for a 29 year old backup on an expiring contract would be hard to turn down in my opinion.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CD282</b></div><div>"PIT gets their needed 3C with playoff ans Cup experience"
This line made me laugh. PIT looking to DET for playoff and Cup experience - LOL!</div></div>
That is meant more towards the idea that the Pens would rather have a player that knows what it takes to win in the playoffs and who has been there and knows what that grind is like rather than someone who doesn't. Not that Helm goes in and teach them how to win, they are pretty good at that on their own. Helm fits a need that the Pens have and why not add even more playoff experience to the locker room.

Winged Wheels get back on the road- Thoughts? Trades with NJ, CGY, PIT, and EDM
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>wingsfan33</b></div><div>Personally I don't like the Edmonton trade; I don't think nuge is a center in this league. I think he is better suited to be a winger in this league. Personally I'd rather have the first round pick for green, frk and sheahan are a wash and won't amount to anything besides bottom 6 forwards which are replaceable.
Don't see Calgary doing the deal unfortunately with the addition of mike smith I don't see a need for Calgary right now. They have plenty of quality goalie prospects who I would love and are one season away from being in the league.
Pitt deal I love it, don't think it works for them, I proposed a sheahan/helm for hagelin deal to help salary cap.
Lastly we're stuck with the cone until he opts to have surgery</div></div>
-I think a 24 year old RNH has a lot of potential as a top 2 center. Even if he is better on the wing then put him beside Larkin or AA for the next 10 years. And yeah Sheahan had a bad year last year but I still see a fair amount of potential in the 25 year old.
-Yeah Calgary has Mike SMith but he's 35. IDK a lot about Calgary's goalie prospects but I know Mrazek(whos only 25) has shown he can be a top goalie in the league, especially with the Flames' defense in front of him.
-Like I said Detroit would have to take on one of PIT's bottom 6 guys(Maybe Reaves) to make PIT cap compliant
- With Ericsson, Detroit is trading a 4th and a 6th for a 7th to get rid of his contract, plus the Devils need to be at the cap floor.

Wiktowski plays on the wing too. thing what Chicago do big Dustin Byfuglien minus like 97.3% of the talent. You also have to expect either Bertuzzi and/or Svechnikov to make the opening lineup

WPG Trade (AA, Trouba)
I'd love to see Trouba in Detroit but not at losing AA. I'd rather package Nyquist, Ouellet/Sproul, a #3 in 2018 and a #1 in 2019. Maybe they'd even take Green and Detroit keeps their pick.

Is it worth losing a draft to shed bad contracts?
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Manthanasiou87</b></div><div>Since CGY had a shot at Mrazek this offseason and didn't bite, I think the only way that deal works is if he plays better to start the year. And at that point why not just keep him. I also think you'd have to retain more of Helm's salary to have PIT go for it. I think everything else makes sense.
But what I love about this is it is creative as hell and would put them back in contention faster and speed up the rebuild Holland has stuck on crawl. 15 picks in one draft!? Sign me right up for that. Maybe maneuver like BOS 2015 and get 3 picks in a row.</div></div>
CGY didn't bite because they don't have any picks to give up. But they are loaded with good young D-men so they pay a smaller price in their 7th or 8th D man for a goalie who will be with them for 10 years.
As a Red Wings fan I am more than willing to forgo the 2019 draft to clear the decks and make something similar to this happen, or just to start the rebuild the right way.

I went with Jagr because what other free agent helps fill seats in a new arena? Wings sign him to help mentor AA,Larkin, Mantha, Bertuzzi and so on, and if they fall behind in the standings, trade him like they did with Vanek last season. And what Red Wings fan wouldnt want to see Jagr wear the Winged Wheel?

Mike Smith is 35, Mrazek is 25 and has shown he can play at a high level. Put a better team(like Calgary) in front of him and he becomes a very solid goalie of the future with that young core for the next 10 years.
Colorado will not be competitive for the next few years so they take on Ericsson's contract to help them stay at the cap floor while giving them a veteran D man who can log big minutes while the front office tears it down to rebuild. Plus they add an extra pick from a team who could be in the top 10 of each round.

Quick Rebuild
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Justenv</b></div><div>I like what you are trying to do but your Trouba deal is an outlier. Trouba is close to being, if not already an elite right shot dman under the age of 25. You are suggesting Jet's take 2 B level prospects and 2 2nd round picks in exchange for their best defenseman. Never going to happen and these deals are only fun if it goes both ways.
Jet's want a top young dman of equal caliber, preferably left shot. I don't see anyway Det can make that happen. You don't have the pieces. Jet's signed Mason and have 3 good young goalies in their system, don't need Nyquist. DeKeyser is the closest thing but he's not a top 2 young dman. You'd have to include a Mantha or something and at that point why would Det do it? You wouldn't.</div></div>
I see what your saying. Detroit could replace of of those D men with Hickets or Sarrijarvi to make it work. I was confused on your comment about the Jets goalies. Not sure how that applies, unless you got Nyquist confused with Mrazek. But a top 6 winger in Nyquist, 2 prospects, and 2 (probably high) second round picks seems like a fair price based on other recent trades (for example, ARZ got 2 prospects for Hjalmarsson).

Need to make lots of moves to be competitive again
As much as I'd like to see it happen, there is no way Detroit gets a 1st and a 2nd for Green. They might could get a conditional 3rd if Green resigns with Arz but they'll be lucky just to get a 1st for him at the deadline. Not would they get a 2nd for Howard. Or 2 picks for Helm.

Possible Quick Rebuild
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Green4D4Again</b></div><div>Another possible landing spot for Mrazek is Ottawa. History there in junior and there is no telling who mans the net next year with an aging Anderson and an unproven #1 in Condon. I foresee a move that either gives Detroit a 3rd round pick in 2018 and maybe Claesson or Englund in return for Mrazek and a 5th or 6th round pick.
I doubt Winnipeg will give up Trouba for so little despite the fact that he is playing behind Myers and Byfuglien. If anything they will keep him as an RFA and either receive an offer or resign come season end (Enstrom's contract is up next year).
I think the Dallas trade is fair. There will be looking for defensive depth come the playoffs if all goes well this year.
Pittsburg is in an interesting position this year because they don't have the depth at centre on the bottom two lines. Helm would be attractive but I can see them going younger and cheaper.
With that Colorado trade, it all depends on where Sakic thinks this team is despite the horrendous year last year. They will have a healthy Varlamov back, younger D and some prospects coming up. If they feel they can compete than Ericsson stays and is either traded to Arizona or New Jersey.
I like it.</div></div>
I think Detroit could get a 1st rounder out of Mrazek if he plays well early in the year. He's 25 and hopefully coming in with something to prove. Maybe Detroit packages a lower prospect with the pick.
I may be over estimating Nyquist's value but I think a top 6 forward, a young D, and a 3rd rounder is fair for Trouba. But interchanging Nyquist and Tatar works too. They're basically the same player.
The Pittsburgh trade could be any team that needs a 3rd center. Colorado could be any team that needs help reaching the cap floor and needs a body on D.
