Niemela is definitely a good prospect and one that would be covered by 90% of teams but Robertson doesn’t have that much value. Many teams would have a player like him so I don’t think Vancouver would see that as a must have. The picks are what they are…holl is worthless in a trade and Kerfoot is who he is.
It’s not so much about value but about the needs that this fills for Vancouver and I don’t think fills a need.</div></div>
Robertson is arguably Toronto's best prospect. The Athletic had him as the #28 nhl prospect (just behind Krebs and Sanderson) so if you think he doesn't have value, that's foolish. I get that Vancouver needs to upgrade their blue line, but that doesn't mean good forward prospects don't have "value"

I'm not sure if the post has been edited since these comments, but what more would you want? 2/3 of torontos top prospects, roster player to replace Miller's spot, 1st and a 2nd, and a throw away to make the money work. This is a better package than Eichel got. As a leaf fan I wouldn't do this trade even if you tookout Kerfoot and Niemela, although that would be a pretty close to value trade.

The lines could obviously be different. I would say Copp is way harder to play against. You could also make Copp/Kerfoot your 3rd line centre. Or just move one to the LW with Kampf and Kase.
The point is you're adding another good forward. Depth is alway key in the playoffs. This makes the team better.

He has been playing top pair with Provorov all year... Although thats clearly not good enough lmao. Always tough to gauge these things. Could be 5 teams going after him which would probably reqire a 2nd+ or maybe he slips thru the cracks and you can get him for a 3rd or less

Leafs need a righty. And one that can skate well and move the puck would suit their style of play. Their PP doesn't need anything, It's almost 4% better than the 2nd best pp
I realize Klingberg is having a tough year, but who would you prefer?

I had initially put Liljegren in the deal as he would fill a spot that Klingberg left. But it leaves a massive gap at RD for the leafs after this year, and they won't have money to go sign one. Maybe Robertson is the answer then. Would you take Robertson, 2nd and a 3rd?

Yeah I've imagined Sandin and Liljegren staying together in an offensive role with Muzzin being used as a veteran D presence with Topi. The question will be how effective are Rielly - Brodie are in 2+ years

Oh. My.
Besides height and higher AAV, Severson is better than him in every regard. Analytic community raves over him, he throws massive hits, plays a solid D game while also putting up decent point totals. He's been my (realistic) dream partner for Rielly for the last 4 years. Do some research my man!

Not ideal but keeping Campbell
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SevenLeg</b></div><div>Toronto has to win it all within Matthews' and Marner's contracts. They can't afford Campbell on a high AAV, so I'd worry about the future impact of a long-term Campbell deal later. Just my opinion though.</div></div>
Your explanation is totally valid, but I think its more "We'll give you 5 years instead of 4" to keep AAV down. I may be over-optimistic but Campbell seems like a pretty unassuming guy who'll take a fair deal. ATM I think 4x4 is still a middle ground where he could get more as a UFA but the leafs still take on a good amount of risk.

I'm as critical of "recency bias" as the next guy, but how are you putting Steeves ahead of Kampf AND not resigning Kase? Pay someone to take Ritchie if you have to. Kase is the type of player this team model (5 guys making over 50% of the cap) needs. Sub $3 million, versatile winger. Remember that Kase is a RFA after this year so its not like we have to outbid anyone to keep him

This seems absurd. 4-5 million? For sure. But I'd be very hesitant to give out more than 4 years. Forget that he's a late bloomer, any goalie north of 30 I'd look long and hard at giving term.

Good explanation, I think the balanced approach is the best way to do it. Couple comments:
I think Coleman gets more money (too much for the Leafs)
I like the Arizona trade and value seems pretty close
Not a fan of Kerfoot in the 3C spot. Spend the Coleman money on a 3C and another cheap winger
Don't think planning to have Robertson fill a winger spot is smart. He's still 19 and has a awkward year last year. Let him thrive on the Marlies and call him up if he's dominating

I’ve been slowing leaning towards keeping Rielly, but for that haul I think you gotta move on. Cheaper younger d with high ceiling, cheap young forward who can play in your middle 6, and a 1st. That fills a lot of needs on this team
