82 pts in 127 games in two shortened seasons, including 1/4 of his rookie season on the 4th line. He also already has more playoffs point than Connor McDavid.

Playoff lines
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jo_Habs77</b></div><div>Agree with all the FW lines (although Staal has to show more soon, cause Evans is preferable right now)
ummhh... Gustafsson!?
Chiarot will be back with Weber, Merill might get a solid look as the 7th D , and why take Kulak out -- he's been great!</div></div>
The problem is we now have 360000 LHD all over equal skill level (Romanov excepted) so some one has to be removed from the lineup. Are you going to pay 3.5 Mil for one of Edmundson or Chiarot to sit in the pressbow? Not likely, so if they are in and Petry and Weber are in you now have Merrill, Kulak, Romanov and Gustafsson all competing for 2 spots. Romanov has been better than Kulak all season, so IMO he stays. Merril was a depth option while Chiarot is out, so he sits when Chiarot is back. Gustavsson was brought in in hopes he would regain his offensive abilities at a low cost. Therefore he likely gets a lot of leeway at least to start. Look for a lineup of
Edmundson-Petry
Gustafsson-Weber
Merrill/Kulak-Romanov
Until Chiarot gets back then how Gustafsson plays
Edmundson-Petry
Gustafsson/Chiarot-Weber
Chiarot/Romanov-Romanov/Gustafsson
Once Chiarot is back.

Out of the Box Thinking for the Playoff Lines
My ideal lines are
Tatar-Danault-Gallagher (why mess with what works)
Toffoli-Kotkaniemi-Caufield (I have Caufield here cause I don't want 2 smallish players on the same line in CC and NS)
Drouin-Suzuki-Anderson (played well together early in the season so lets go back to it)
Armia-Staal-Perry (shutdown line)
Lehkonen, Evans, Byron
Edmundson-Petry (top pair)
Gustafsson\Romanov-Weber
Chiarot-Romanov\Gustafsson
Merril, Kulak
Price
Allen

Absolute steal of a trade. Now it’ll be very interesting to see which of our 8 top defensemen end up in the healthy top 6. Romanov, Edmundson, and Gustafsson can all play the right side.

Josh Anderson
Jesperi Kotkaniemi
Joel Armia
Jake Allen
Jake Evans
Jan Myšák
Joel Edmundson
Jonathan Drouin
Jeff Petry
Jordan Weal
Jesse Ylönen
Joël Teasdale
Joseph Blandisi
Jacob Lucchini
Josh Brook
Jakub Dobeš
Jacob Olofsson
Jordan Harris
Jacob LeGuerrier
Joni Ikonen
Jack Smith
Jayden Struble
Edit: 23/69 players (one third) of players in the Montréal organization have first names that start with J.

(BUF/FLA) - Montour for 2021 3rd
Buffalo effect be damned, the Panthers got a defenseman that has shown he can play 20min per night for a mid-round pick. They bought low and are going to benefit as Montour's minutes decrease and he plays on an actual NHL team.

There's no way Florida loses this trade. Even if Montour plays bad, they win this. A 3rd for a guy who can play top 4 minutes and is motivated to play not in Buffalo.

Thread:
(BUF/MTL) - Staal for 2021 3rd and 5th RD picks
A few days ago, I made a post titled "Bringing back Captain Staal for another run at the Cup".
In it, Buffalo hypothetically trades Staal at 50% retained salary to Carolina for a 2nd round pick.
The Buffalo Sabres fanbase largely thought that was a fair deal.
On June 22nd 2019 (Draft Day 2019), Montreal traded a 2nd to the LA Kings for a 3rd and a 5th.
Capfriendly community was pretty closely divided on who won that trade (Does that mean it was a fair deal?)
In this trade between Montreal and Buffalo, Montreal got a centreman that they were looking for at 50% retain salary.
Buffalo got two draft picks that, if packaged together, are very close in value to a 2nd round pick.
Taking this into account, the swapping of picks by the Habs and the Kings on June 22nd 2019 and my post about what a fair trade involving Eric Staal would like, I've reached my conclusion on this trade.
I voted fair deal.
Like if you did too!!! :D

Why? This makes no sense for either team? Just put together a package for Ekholm, there’s no need to include Danault, or Kulak who just rekindled his magic with Petry last night.
