Why is Nashville trading a 2nd for Kerfoot when they can sign a better player in Granlund for less money without giving up assets?

Good god that defense would be rough. Putting Savard and Sandin in those roles would be a nightmare, even if Muzzin is able to keep up his high level of play.

Depends on how you value the prospects and Kuznetsov but McMichael is no joke. As a caps fan I'd happily do Lapierre and Alexeyev instead of McMichael

In the event that Mitch is looking for 11M+, this may be an attractive option as their depth would suffer immensely next year unless they can move Marleau (which I doubt). Its tough to move Marner, but at least you recoup some offense at a reasonable rate, and add a couple of younger cheaper options with ample potential. Larsson is polarizing, but apparently there was interest from Leafs brass prior to the deadline. Perhaps Larsson could be swapped with the Oilers first and an add from the Leafs, opening up more cap room to add someone else on the backend.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Sagecoll</b></div><div>Yeah agreed. Fair terms, not a good match since Edmonton is also cap crunched.</div></div>
Yeah it would be just as tight in Edmonton as it would've been in Toronto, but Marner level talent is infrequently available/attainable through trade.

Pesce is on an equally as good contract with an extra year of term while playing a premium position. Maybe Canes have to include their 1st rounder instead of the 2nd (likely in the teens), but I think the values are close.

I don't know, not that huge of a market for goaltenders right now. Maybe the prospect has to be better than McKeown?

By then perhaps Saros is ready to go as the number one, or Rinne signs for less than $7M per. Cap goes up, and you can always look into moving Turris or RyJo to get younger.
If the rumours of Nashville being in on Karlsson were true, it suggests to me that Poile sees an opportunity to go big game hunting to bolster his squad.

While I agree that Gruby isn't likely worth a mid 1st alone, Darling and Bishop are horrible examples and complete oversights on your part. They were both impending UFAs, free to negotiate with any team come July 1, Grubauer however, is younger and will be an RFA, meaning that the team acquiring him will have significantly more leverage in negotiations and control over him in general. Recent examples of similar players being traded are; Andersen (returned a 1st and a 2nd), Lehner (returned a 1st), Talbot (returned a 2nd, 3rd and 5th), Schneider (returned a top 10 pick) and Varlamov (returned a 1st).

I don't know. Green is a bona fide top four RHD who provides above average defense and under the right conditions likely could be a 40-50 point guy again. The Oilers pick is going to be late anyways.
Given that there arent a ton of spots available for goaltenders, and we are likely to see Fleury, Bishop, Grubauer, Darling, Elliot, etc. looking for new homes, I doubt Halak is going to cost a ton.

Habs offseason
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>texus8</b></div><div>I like it. I think a Galchenyuk for Fowler trade might be a bit more realistic since I'm not sure SJ has the depth to cover for losing Vlasic, but I like the idea. I wonder if Colorado would be willing to move Duchene for that price, comes down to their evaluation of Juulsen I guess, let's hope Sakic is very high on him lol.</div></div>
Fowler certainly would be an alright consolation prize if the Ducks were willing to move him. It really depends on what San Jose wants to do this offseason, as they do have a older core and Jones, Vlasic, Hertl, Couture, and Pavelski all seeing their contracts expire over the span of a year. I'm really not sure what to think about Duchene, as I can't see Bergevin or Francis being willing to move Segachev or Hanifin for him. Perhaps Carolina could land him with Fleury/Bean and their first this year.

Kessel is a bit one dimensional....and Jones was a 3rd overall pick(I think).... and he is only 20, and that Phaneuf trade is **** for Detroit, especially since they traded an elite prospect and a 1st round pick for a d-man with a 7mil cap hit and 0 of it retained, bad trades overall imo.</div></div>
Jones was 4th overall, and here are the last 10 4th overall draft picks not incuding Jones:
Sam Bennett
Griffin Reinhart
Adam Larsson
Ryan Johansen
Evander Kane
Alex Pietrangelo
Thomas Hickey
Nicklas Backstrom
Benoit Pouliot
Andrew Ladd
There are only two players that could be traded straight up for Kessel there. Think again about Jones' value.</div></div>

Ovi Blockbuster if Caps don't make it past the 2nd Round this year
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Mr_cap</b></div><div>Guys, are you kidding me?
First of all, I personally don't think he will be leaving because he knows how much Washington means to him.
Second of all, he's a <strong><em>megastar</em></strong>.
And last but not least, that's a terrible trade for both sides but mainly Washington. Absolutely brutal. So the Caps have 3 centers capable of playing at the 1C position? If they were to trade him - it would be with his permission - they would trade him to get younger which means high-end prospects and many picks. Not another 31-year old C that they already have in Backstrom (28).
Absolute NO point.</div></div>
Pavelski plays RW frequently and would provide similar offensive totals (points wise) and better defense. If Ovechkin wants out and we were offered this - I would 100% do it. It frees up ~$6M in cap space which would likely be the difference between signing our UFA's and not.
I would take;
Johansson - Kuznetsov - Pavelski
Burakovsky - Backstrom - Oshie
Vrana - Eller - Connolly
Meier - Beagle - Wilson
Orlov - Niskanen
Alzner - Carlson
Dillon - Schmidt
Chorney
Holtby
Copley
over;
Ovechkin - Backstrom - Burakovsky
Johansson - Kuznetsov - Connolly
Vrana - Eller - Wilson
Barber - Beagle - Scrub
Orlov - Niskanen
Alzner - Carlson
Schmidt - Chorney
Holtby
Copley
any day.

I have my doubts that Nashville would move Jones for Kessel straight up, far less adding a 2016 1st.
I doubt Bozak returns anything more than a 2nd.

I think this is pretty similar to what is going to happen this offseason. To nitpick I would hope that Brouwer brings back a little more than a 5th, he is good for 20 goals a year and isn't expensive. I think a team like Toronto may be willing to take on Brooks Laich, he is a fantastic leader, and they would likely get an asset out of the deal.
