He should be under 9, but probably mid-9s MAX to get this crap done. I love you say the only comparable he cares about is Matthews...Well if thats marners thought he is dumb. They arent the same. Dubas will hold up 10 charts and say look, this says you arent matthews, you may want to be, you may think you are as good as him, but no. There is no comparison. You don't get to pick your comparable in life, everyone else based on data, stats, previous signings sets your comparables up.
9Mil/6
7mil/3
10mil Max/8
remember this</div></div>
I think that's a common sentiment among leaf fans that Matthews is that much better than Marner, but just because he scores more goals than Marner doesn't necessarily make him a better player. Marner's vision and passing ability is right up there with some of the best playmakers in the league.
But yeah, I'll remember that, let's see who's right down the road.

Marner- yep, definitely mad. Meiers just signed for 6x4. Even better comparable Aho, who plays center, same draft year and is arguably equal on offense, way better on defense, Carolona Aho. signed for 8.45x5. Marner on a 6 year deal, using that is like ~9ish, maybe. Thats even a hair high Thank you Bergervin for the offer sheet. That with Mitch not getting any offer sheets, he has 0 leverage, his value is back to Normal.
the new russian dude that Mike B said has a spot should be in the lineup somewhere</div></div>
If you think Marner isn't going to get over 10 then you're "mad" buddy, he has plenty of leverage considering the only comparable he cares about plays on the same team as him. If Matthews got 11.6 for 5 years after Marner was the leading scorer for the team in back to back years, what on earth could possibly make anyone think that he'll take anything less than 10? You'll be lucky if he agrees to anything under 11, only way that happens is if it's shorter term. As for the offer sheet, let's wait a few days and see what happens.

This wasn't Dubas convincing him to waive it as your original post suggested...</div></div>
You are actually an idiot, how do you even dress yourself in the morning? Obviously Dubas convinced him to waive because that was the ONLY WAY to keep Nylander and co around with Marner's impending contract, instead of keeping 1 year of Marleau at 6.25. That's why I predicted it, but you're clearly not comprehending that. Why would Marleau request a trade out of this situation? Clearly he liked it in Toronto and just did the leafs a favour by waiving. Hopefully not all leaf fans are meatheads like you.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Juice</b></div><div>Don't be a d*ck.
It was well documented that the deal breaker for Marleau choosing Toronto over re-signing in San Jose was the 3rd year of the contract. Everything over the past 2 years (including his goodbye tweet) shows how much he enjoyed it here. Him asking to get traded came out of left field. It's great that he wanted to leave...but there was't any indication he was willing to move his family to Toronto and then bail after 2 years.
None of the scenarios of trading Marleau on this board EVER made sense unless Marleau was willing to waive his NTC...something that didn't seem reasonable to assume until a couple weeks ago.
You can step off your high horse now.</div></div>
The only thing that matters here is that he was traded, and when I looked at the cap situation I predicted that this was the only way about 6 months ago, so it doesn't matter how out of left field the trade was, every leaf fans shat on that idea whenever I even began to mention it. So yeah, when it finally happened I definitely wanted to rub it in a bit to people like this guy who ridiculed me for even suggesting it, so sue me.

This is a lesson for y'all who kept saying it'll NEVER happen, not everything is black and white, there's other factors that can be at play. Have people been doing that? Honestly it's wishful thinking cuz I don't think the Rangers would part ways with him in any scenario. But he's definitely a more complete player than Monahan, and he put up similar numbers as the primary possession driver on his line, while Monahan just cleans up chances where Johnny does all the work. Your 1C can't be a passenger.

I understand the frustration with Johnny, but honestly he worked his ass off trying to create offense.. the truth is he had zero help from his line mates. The biggest name that should be looked at is Monahan, he's not a 1C and when the going gets tough he checks out. When a guy with the skillset of Monahan is expected to be your 2nd best offensive player, you just won't win in the post season. I know he put up 82 points this year, but he's largely a product of Gaudreau. He has to go.. hopefully for a guy who can actually drive possession and create chances without having to be hand fed by Johnny.

Have you forgotten about Lupul and Robidas</div></div>
Because Zetterberg actually had back problems that literally forced him to retire, and the guy you're referring to with "irritation" from his equipment was Hossa, which was also a genuine problem which is why he was allowed to go on IR. So no, you can't just put a player on LTIR cuz your cap situation isn't working, I'm pretty sure that's cap circumvention. And the biggest consideration with this would be, why would Marleau agree to sit out the final year of his deal when he's fine? Doesn't make any sense and is just an overall stupid suggestion, no offence.

I haven't convinced myself of anything of the sort, I clearly said in the description that this is the only way he CAN deliver on that promise and keep his core together considering the payday Marner will inevitably get. You guys are the ones who've convinced yourself that you know 100% without doubt that Marleau won't waive his NMC come hell or high water, as if it's as certain as death and taxes.
