Playoff contention
I think trading Murphy might be the best move to free up cap space. He is not the most fleet of foot, but could bring some value back.

Kane and Toews will remain high level players for a while, but with Mitchell, Boqvist, Beaudin the defense has a pretty bright future around the corner. Schmaltz and Saad feel like the linchpin for the forwards as more is required of them while Debrincat was the steal of his draft. I don't think the team needs to trade a member of the core (the only one which could be moved is Keith if he waived his NMC) to tank they seem to being doing a good job this season. Add another high profile draft pick/impact player or God willing if they miss the playoffs that they get Jack Hughes (the rest of the league would riot) this team can get one more cup out of the core.

Defensively the team is atrocious, but with Murphy and Forsling the team could be good enough to be a bubble team...maybe. The Blues struggles don't make sense to me on paper they are a really good team, but who knows perhaps they fire Yeo and hire Q for his second stint with the team.

Seabrook and Murphy made for a fine third pairing last season though its mind numbingly painful to pay a third paring $10 million.

While Chiraelli is known for dumb trades (Seguin) and the Oilers traded Gretzky in the Salary Cap era there is no way that McDavid ever gets traded. He factors into anywhere between 35-45% of all goals scored by Edmonton and is the best player in the game. You have to literally hollow out the team for one player and take on Chiraelli's latest blunder (Lucic) in order to get the deal done.

Honestly, the O'Reilly trade would never happen because Buffalo would likely never do it. However for Chicago they get a player to help them win now who can actually win a face-off and generate sustained scoring threats. Moves Schmaltz into third line which ensures he plays against favorable match ups.
The more likely trade would be Kuemper as they need a goalie and unless you're overpaying Bernier its unlikely they get Hutton that limits the viable options for a back up in free agency. I would do the Darling trade, but it would be foolish to trade Carolina Saad/Hossa Contract for Darling(money retained) and Faulk. I don't think Carolina will retain money on Darling and you don't want to pay a back up $4 million for 3 years plus trading Saad who will bounce back isn't wise either. In comparison Kuemper played pretty well last year and would be on a lower cost. The first round pick is the cost of not giving up a good prospect to be free of Hossa's cap hit.

Tavares wants to win more than we wants money so he could take a discount to win. Carlson probably would get $7 million. Neal could actually see a pay cut unless if someone is dumb enough to give him an Andrew Ladd deal his production isn't deserving of $6 million.

Back to the Playoffs
I agree he will rebound, but he is having a career worst season. His shot percentage is 7% I think career average is around 11 or 12%. His passing has also been uncharacteristically down as well in the offensive zone. If he can get back to his career averages or close both he and Toews will from a points production be in a good place next season.

That's why I said assuming the unlikely signing of Carlson because with Rutta, Gustaffson signed they don't have the money to go for a max offer such as you listed. Plus they need money to lock Schmaltz up long-term and have money the following year for Debrincat.

The Hawks will have those in the near future with Mitchell and their first round pick in last year's draft. This roster is missing Dylan Sikura who will be signed as a "trade deadline" acquisition. Plus Kampf should be 4c with Bouma and Wingels on the wings. You'd see Sharp Scratched along with either Duclair or Hartman to give Sikura a chance.

Vinnie is the one that is probably the largest ? he's looked good this season and good with Toews but if that continues the number for him could go up as well or he could underperform and not be pursued. Same with Duclair. Forsling while still young I think will end up making that transition and being a good top 4 defender. Oesterle is another good question mark cause he looks great next to Keith but was a healthy scratch for 25 games. Though I think Forsling and Oest combined would be the amount above, but not each of them

I think this is very likely maybe a change with Kero and Schmaltz on third line center and Dauphin being in the AHL. I wish, as they have the right too, that they would waive/abolish the Tootoo contract as it opens a space for a youngster. On defense I hope they put Murphy with Keith and Seabrook with Kempny.

I know as someone who lives next to one of the eastern conference teams they will play I can't wait to see them take the ice.
Concerning Baun, they may play him but since he's no more than a fourth line or third line guy even in the AHL I think they will try giving the younger guys more ice time, but Raddysh is probably gonna be in the NHL at the same time as their #1 pick from this year. I am excited to see what he can do for the Hawks.

Vegas Opening Day Roster (Highly Speculative)
On the Cags trade, you can add Nate Schmidt in the place of Schlemko as Schmidt is a possible second pair defenseman whose not bad in his zone, but good at moving the puck. That trade was one, since as a Hawks fan, I am not super confident in that trade value. However, thanks for constructive feedback.

2.2% Cap Increase
Rumor has it he's looking to move a core player, but the only two worth moving are Seabrook (whose locker room presence is important) or Panarin( whose playoff numbers are disappointing). However, the rumors surround Hjalrmason because of his lack of a full NTC, but moving him doesn't provide enough relief to make it worth it.

Yeah I would like to see them not pay Rozival or Tooto. They should see if they can trade Hinostrozza for a center prospect. I honestly can see them resigning Ramussen which leaves center as a really weak position. Unfortunately, Schmaltz or Debrincat or Fortin are not going to play at center next year. They just can't win draws which is bad considering Kero and Ramussen were at 45%

I think you might be overpaying for Orlov whose struggled as a third line defender. The team might be better keeping Schmidt and trying to resign Alzner or even Shattenkrik. Kuzy seems like a fair signing should be around $5-6 million. Burakovsky I can being signed as an RFA to a bridge deal around $3 million. Otherwise I think this looks like a very realistic Caps team next year.

Caps Next Year
The only person underpaid in this scenario is Oshie who could take a big deal for a team that isn't ready to compete, but based off his comments he wants a cup and I wouldn't be shocked that he takes less to stay or go on a competitive team. Orlov if the Caps sign Orlov to anything more than $2.5 they are absolutely stupid you might as well move a rookie into the main line up. Yeah you lose some scoring, but that third pairing has been as much if not more than Ovie disappearing the reason they can't get out of the third. Also if you actually knew the Nhl rules all you need is 20. 23 is the most you can have on the roster. I have 21 players which well into the rules of the league.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>RamonDaze</b></div><div>babouie, correct, Crow is NOT Carey Price. Crow has actually won two Cups and could've been the playoff MVP for one of them. Price is the better goaltender, but I keep reading these comments that suggest Crawford is somehow a mediocre goaltender propped up by the team. He might not a top 3 goalie in the NHL right now, however Crawford actually is a great goaltender.
As far these moves, I think Blackhawks armchair GM's in general think the Blackhawks biggest issue is the salary cap and faceoff winning percentage & all they need to do is trade the scoring from the 2nd line to get space & faceoff %. I don't see how blowing up their best scoring line improves the team for next season.
Their biggest issue is that they haven't been able to rebuild the Toews line. In 2015, it was Saad-Toews-Hossa. Saad was a cap casualty, Hossa has aged into a valuable 3rd liner. If they want another cup I think that's where they need to improve. Hayden-Toews-? This is when it'd be nice if maybe Hayes had wanted to be a Blackhawk instead of a NYR. I'm not sure if he'd have been the answer either, but Panik & the rest of the 3rd liners hasn't worked.</div></div>
100% agree probably the best take on the Hawks, Ive read on the site. Panik is good as a third liner, but isn't a long term fit on the top line. Haydn shows potential not as high as Saad, but as a possible Bickell before his illness as a power forward with scoring on that line which you can then place a Kane or Schmaltz on. On the faceoff percentage they will need to work with the pieces they have even though its killing their possession game as only Toews was above 50% they just don't have the cap space to trade for a better center that can score and win at the dot.
