I'd deal Chychrun for a RHD thats under term. Chychrun isnt re-signing and is gonna test free agency.

I think you meant Lafferty. Thats who the leafs gave away for nothing. But if by some hook and crook the leafs can get both Dakota & Lafferty (Van doesnt have the cap space). Then the leafs have a true solid bottom 6

I think you can get a Savard or a Hamonic (Right handed guys that 1 yr left on the cheap that are savy vets) for nothing. Montreal and Ottawa have a strong young dcores that those guys you can get on the cheap for maybe a #7 dman like Timmins and a low round pick.

Do the leafs trade for Savard from MTL (50% retained) as the third pair D, and use the money to sign a 2nd/3rd line power forward type player? Instead of Duclair a Josh Dakota?

Do you just bury Forsberg to the minors from the get go and have the Korp/Sogaard tandem? JDB, Thomson, Hamonic ... meh ... they are 6/7 dmen. They are young and under team RFA control. Chycrun isnt gonna re-sign so I think its more important for the team to replace him and trade for a RHD.
Other quality depth forwards I was thinking instead of Dakota and Lafferty are Mantha & Sprong.

I'd hold off on that. Definetly give him some games when he is back, but leafs should carry 3 goalies on the roster for the remainder. Sammy is playing better and Jones has been a pleasant surpirse. Woll will be on of the 1a/1b tandem next year, too your point.

I'd send Tarasenko back to NYR and a 1st in return. Forget other teams garbage prospects, we have to rebuild our own farm system under anew GM. So picks are still valuable. I like the trade with Boston. But, I'd keep jospeh. He's been solid this year and we need him for the third line next yar. Most third liners nowadays with the cap increase will be $3 mill a year.

Lily is a #5/6 Dman at best. If he doesn't take his qualifying offer, i'd let him walk. Hes over 25, he is what he is, nothing special and it's ok to draft depth players from the 1st round.

I wouldn't give Roy more than 5 mill a year and if Bertuzzi should kiss any gms feet if he thinks he's getting more than 3mill he'd be lucky to get that much. Only reason him and Domi have nhl careers are because of their fathers namesake. Honestly you can replace both those guys for cheaper equivilent free agents for the same amount like Barbarov and Duclair. I just re-signed them based on fimiliarity. But yes I did lowball on Roy.

They can't bury him in the minors with that NMC. Best thing is he is given away to a Stanley cup contender that he waives his NMC for. I was thinking Tampa Bay. Dorin did some good things but also some big head scratching things and re-signing him and giving him a NMC was the biggest.

Robertson has been in and out the lineup, and Knies is a calder candidate. Tavares was 29 when they signed him and has been PPG since coming to Toronto. How's Huberdeau? I'd worry about him before Tavares. Flames haven't won since 89 themselves, couldn't win even with Iginla and wasted a decade of Gaudreau. Bunting, Brown, Kapanen, Johnson, and Mikheyev are all injury prone or trash at this point</div></div>
Not a flames fan. You should look how team like the jets manages their cap space and drafts and develops and able too keep players and have a solid full line up ;P Leafs didnt have $20 mill when Triv was hired lol and hes just a yes man to Shanny. Your problem is Shannahan. Dubas that snake oil saleman got canned because he no longer wanted to be a yes men (pittsburgh is unfortunately gonna figure out how much of a con man that kid is real quick), Lou, Babs and Hunter weren't yes men and they walked away. Mitten and Cowan are your untouchables for trades (fair enough, nothing wrong with drafting developing and keeping potential bottom 6 depth), but who and what else do you offer for a guy like Hanifin and Lindholm? Two of the biggest splashes this TDL? Any picks? Any top end prospects? Any decent roster players? Nope! No ones is touching Bertuzzi and that contract. He has same amount of goals as leafs 4th liners. You trade Domi ok cool who you got replacing him? Until your team fires Shanny and the fans grow a spine and stop finanicially supporiting your team, you will be mediocre forever. And Willys contract kicks in next year? You got cap room for any decent D? Or just gonna continue to sign band-aid 1yr deal with vets past their prime or busts like Bertuzzi and Domi who only have jobs because of their dads ... Golf seaons starts in April. I'm sure you long put game is great as you leaf fans have alot of practice at it.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>HShockey</b></div><div>LMAO what? Knies is already a top-6 forward PWF who has elite upside. Minten and Cowan are two untouchable prospects for a reason; parting with BOTH would take a haul not expiring players. You could definetly get good assets for those two guys, but no team is moving those type of young players (Knies, Cowan, Minten) for a 1-year rental's in Hanifin or LIndholm unless there's an extension included. The market is already limited for Hanifin, who only wants the states.</div></div>
Knives and Robertson are only top 6 because the leafs don't have any cap room to pay more than $1million dollars for decent depth forwards. Ex. Bunting, Hyman, Brown, Leivo, Kapenen, Johansson, Mihkalev because the overpaid and are crippled by tavares contract. Dumbest signing in franchise history lol smh. Give a 31 yr old thats been in the NHL since he was 18 that never was really fast a contract value of 2 top 6 players for a guy on the back end of his career. This is why your team has never won a cup since they added 6 more teams and games were broadcasted in colour in 1968. They might not make the playoffs this year! Golf Leafs Golf! #forever67

Robertson and Knives are bottom 6 players at best on teams with money not tied up to 5 players and that have actual depth. Mitten and Cowan only have potential upsides and a toronto 1st is just a mid round pick. You'd have to give up alot in order for teams to retain salary. And besides the Flames can get better assets from many other time than what the leafs can offer for those two at the deadline. Timmins is s defensive liability,

Montour is getting a big pay day from Florida a income tax free state. Jets are stuck with schmidt. I can see the jets getting lindholm at the deadline as a rental but he's signing this off season somewhere else for so much more than the jets can afford. I like Dillon but with the emergence of Samberg and Heniola needing a slot, he's good as gone and they need that cap space to resign Perfetti on a bridge deal. Briossont and Demelo deals make sense. Again, Monahan would also be a nice rental if they cant get lindholm but honestly there is no need for him for any term as Nemes is still under contract and Lambert and Mcgroraty are being called up next season.

Flames will re-sign hanifin. If you expect the flames to trade hanifin and lindholm to the leafs and have the flames keep cap retention, then its at lease Robertson, Mitten, Cowan, Knives and a first & second. and maybe if im calgary i'll entertain that. That Nino - Lowry - Appleton line is on fire right now and is playing like the prototypical perfect third line. The jets can easily pick up henrique or monahan for MTLs second for the playoff push. No need to add a prospect and Appleton is back to form so i'd keep him.
