Leafs 2023-24
Why take any dead money for Murray when you can do the exact same thing that you did with Mrazek last year. Dubas, assuming he is still there, loves trading down.
Gustafsson who knows honestly, I see him going elsewhere where he will actually play.
I think O'Reilly wants one last payday before he truly starts ring chasing, and I dont think Bunting's number is gonna be feasible on this team as it stands, he's gonna want ROR plus money, and if Dubas is smart, he'll realize that ROR is better than Bunting will ever be. Bunting will be a Blackhawk by the start of next season.
I think the Samsonov contract is fair for an RFA who still needs to truly prove himself, I dont think he gets a long term deal, not many goalies ever do.

Campbell - Devils
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jtcurls</b></div><div>Not sure what differentiates speculation from reporters and my comment that it has been reported.
Campbell if he went to devils would be 4 or more years at 5 or more million so likely wouldn’t be paying that so he could “compete” for the job. I believe devils are moving to win now mode and will want an upgrade on Blackwood. Campbell is that player in my opinion.</div></div>
Reporting - “Sources indicate Toronto are in discussion with New Jersey around a trade for MacKenzie Blackwood”
Speculation - “The leafs may want to add a goalie and the Devils could look to make a change. Maybe these two teams could match-up on a Blackwood trade”
Big difference
The Devils have always been very tight-lipped (and have fewer beat reporters) so information does not come out often. Which is why we get these speculations that turn into rumors when there is no evidence.
<em>“The Devils are shopping Blackwood”</em>. No evidence of that. If anything, the GM and MackBlack has patched things up and team has recommitted to him for year.
<em>“The Devils are shopping 2nd overall pick”</em>. Again, no evidence at all. Our GM answered one question about moving his 1st round pick with a “would consider anything that helps team” type of response. That was before the lottery and it has snowballed since.
“<em>The Devils are not going to qualify Miles Wood</em>” there has been nothing about this from team. Fitzgerald has said he wants him back, considers him a big part of team, and Miles Wood has said he wants to come back.

If anything, what has actually been reported suggests that will add a goalie to compete with Blackwood, not to replace him.</div></div>
It's pretty vague both ways. A GM saying he wants a player to be healthy could just be buttering him up, hoping for a minor asset for him.

Leafs trade your thoughts

It’s a shame Rangers don’t have a young RHD that they could package with Georgiev in exchange for Kapanen + Bracco + a pick or two.</div></div>
I would love to get a hold of Lundkvist from the rangers. He is still a prospect and probably needs a year in the AHL but i would scream like a little girl if we could have him and Sandn and Liljegren forming mini team sweden on our bac kend for the next decade. If he was packaged with Georgiev it would take a lot more than Kapanen + Bracco + a pick or two i would think. But i would try and go for it if i was Dubas. From the Rangers fan base it seems likely they are going to trade high on DeAngelo while the can to make room for Lundvist on the blueline in the future.
I basically agree with everything else you posted in your response.

Improving D long term and backup goalie - NYR - CAR
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TheresAlwaysNextYear</b></div><div>Pesce is the most overrated player on this website, That's too much from the Leafs side</div></div>
You realize Leaf fans are the only ones putting him in trades right? No other teams fans, Carolina included, is trying to trade Pesce. Canes have 2 of their top 3 RD hitting UFA over the next 2 years. Pesce is literally the only one not. He's simply not for trade right now without a sever over payment and Nylander is not an over payment by any means. Pesce is a very skilled right handed defensive defensman locked up long term on a great contract at a young age, he's a rare breed of a player.

What IF Marner doesnt play a year
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SammyT_51</b></div><div>Oh for sure.
And Id love to see Bracco there too. He is not the best 5v5 player tho so the competition for that playmaking spot might go to either him or Timashov who is also a playmaker but more of a Nylander type who is better at 5v5. One of those two but I think Bracco has better chance overall. Bracco would not be a good fit on bottom-6 but top-6 and PP yes. It would be nice to show what he is capable of and if he doesnt succeed, there are others and there are trade options as well. Maybe Justin Williams wouldnt be signed but I wouldnt be betting on it thats why I didnt sign him to mine AGM. IF Marner is not there for a year it opens up a spot for competition.</div></div>
If Marner doesn't sign it would be smart to bring back Gardiner if you could on a 1 year deal no..?
Reilly-Gards

Dermott-Ceci

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SammyT_51</b></div><div>Yup exactly! Kudos to him to sticking to his guns lol</div></div>
Obviously it’s just a prelude to him “potentially” suiting up for the Lions when contract talks go nowhere. First or second week of September Dreger should be tweeting that.
But to your AGM, I’d really love to see Bracco there while Marner is out. Obviously he’s no Marner but he’s the closest thing the Leafs have in the system. He’d never usurp Marner but it’d be nice to know what he can do and if he can replace future players lost in the cap crunch.

With what cap room will they match? seems that Dubas has run out of moves to clear space. then how do the fill 11 roster spots next year with only ~16 million in space after a 10.5 marner contract? I think they just aren't going to match anything above 9.5. the cap space is more important in a 5 year window they have with JT and Matthews down the middle.</div></div>
Dubas was on Tim and did today and literally said they have protected the exact amount they need for marner.
Dubas is out of moves??? They have one nmc on their entire roster... I would say there are a lot of moves they can make.
Sorry to say but you are completely off base here. The cap space will be about 20m and that is all to be spent on defence since we will be set on offence next season. Our entire top 9 will be locked in. Then we have Freddy and Rielly in. Liljegren and sandin will be moving up. 2 fourth liners, scratches... leaves us about 13m to sign Dermott and 2 more Dmen. The outlook for next year looks good.

He was already offered 10m x 8 years. Anything below the four first round pick mark is matched easily.
